Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs), the best middleweight boxer in the world.
But Garcia says Canelo doesn’t have to fight Golovkin because he brings in more PPV buys than him...
I'm not saying GGG will ever be as monetary successful as Canelo, but that fight in which they did 900k had a lot more to do with Cotto. You get a guy who has a strong base in the US, and Triple G can be part of a 900k PPV or at least close to it. I think Canelo/GGG can get close to it.
Cotto helped, obviously but it's fairly obvious that Canelo was the A side in terms of fans even against a big name in Cotto.
I don't think he means he doesn't have to fight him period, just that he doesn't need him as he can make that money anywhere. It's not "GGG or no pay day" for Canelo in the way it is for GGG.
What was Khan's PPV history that landed him the Canelo fight?

It wasn't the PPV history that got him the fight, it was:
- Smaller man, 1-2 weight divisions below
- Catchweight
- No hydration clause
- Weak Chin
- Lack of focus in fights
- Light puncher
- Known name (good or bad)
When GBP look for Canelo opponents, they look for extreme weaknesses. And if they manage to underestimate the opponent, that's fine too. The judges are already on pay roll. But Canelo is a beast, he's like Tony the Tiger, he's great...
Too big my @ss.
Canelo's fightnight weight is no doubt heavier than GGG's is now. They weighed about the same years ago when Canelo was still developing.
The problem is his physique. More like a bodybuilder than an elite fighter. That's why his movement sucks and he always seems to gas out quickly.
Canelo doesn't have to fight GGG but if he doesn't fight him next he loses his WBC middleweight title. Canelo could still make big money each fight without being a champion but he makes more money being the champion. If he does fight GGG he probably loses the fight and his title but gains respect for fighting the guy most middleweights refuse to fight. If Canelo is still strong at154 I think he could rule 154 and make big money.
Danny Garcia hoping he remains at 155lbs for his PPV fight with him lmao!
The lies and deception of some of these boxers whilst they will know the ins and outs of boxing they sure as **** don't know much about the weight a boxer is at.
Just a lie to say Canelo is too small for GGG.
We can also say Canelo doesn't need Garcia or anyone else the only people who match him with PPV power are two retired guys and Cotto who DEFINITELY isn't a middleweight on the weighin he is small and on fight night he is small so I don't know what Garcia is talking about.
The only fight for Canelo right now is GGG not unless Floyd comes out of retirement and says lets fight at 155-160.
He doesn't need him financially...that's correct.
If we're honest and Canelo retires right now GGG would probably still never be as successful as Canelo for the rest of his career. Canelo is part of one of the biggest ppv of all time and also did 900k as the a side with Cotto in addition to Floyd/Pac type numbers when they fight similar opposition. GGG needs Canelo unfortunately. Does that somehow surprise you?
