Funny how people try to change history, Canelo wanted to fight at 150 in 2012 and after the Trout fight said he'd go down to 152. Neither Dela Hoya nor Cotto offered anything like that.
Yep, he first offered 150lbs. He then said no, not anymore, Floyd insisted at 150, Canelo insisted at 154. They both budged 2lbs to make the fight.
With Pac winning the election Top Rank has ZERO stars left. When was the last time TR has been in this position? Mayweather Promotions and Warriors boxing have a better stable than Top Rank
That is an idiotic statement. Top Rank has a huge amount of talent on their roster...Now, they have to start building guys up. Its part of the cycle.
its actually bizzare at how big the size difference between middleweights and SMW... until the SMW division you rarely see such big size differences.
for example top SMWs are as following
Gilberto Ramirez 6′ 2½″ /// 75″ reach
James DeGale 6′ 0″ /// 74″ reach
Callum Smith 6′ 3″ (reach not on boxrec but probably 75" plus)
Badou Jack 6′ 1″ ////73″ reach
now you go to MW
Gennady Golovkin 5′ 10½″ /// 70″ reach
Saul Alvarez 5′ 9″ /// 70½″ reach
BJS 5′ 11″///( reach not on boxrec but likely around the 70" plus inch mark?)
Daniel Jacobs 6′ 0″ /// 73″ reach
(aside from DJ everyone is pretty much dwarfed by 3-5 inches)
funny enough you go to SWW and they are similar in size if not bigger then the MWs... but cut a lot of weight or just have very lean body messes.
Erislandy Lara 5′ 9″ /// 74″ reach
Jermell Charlo 5′ 11″ /// 73″ reach
Jermall Charlo 6′ 0″ /// 73½″ reach
Demetrius Andrade 6′ 1″ /// reach not on boxrec (probably 72"+
this something that is never brought up in the weight discussion
My only concern is that they might try to force Zurdo to go down in weight. That wouldn't be a good look.
It would be a ***** move by GGG if he does. I don't think GGG is fighting him till he collects all the belts at 160.
he'll have to beat someone better than dominik britsch(!) in the meantime if he wants to make moving up worth golovkin's while
SMW has no real advantages over MW right now, especially on the HBO side of the fence
Yes he took a bath but Arum needs Manny to recoup what he lost. Putting him in with Floyd or Canelo does that. If TC beats him thats in house money and it raises TC's profile.
I think he is Looking at Zurdo and Crawford to build now. Start over fresh.
Arum wants him to retire now as he took a bath financially after Manny's last fight LOL

I don't think Manny is truly retired anymore than I thought Floyd was. Hell, Manny was rarely in Congress and missed more votes than any other congressperson and he still wn the election. LOL.
Manny has too much value to retire IMO.

I thought one he won the election he was retired? That's what Arum is saying.

If they would have priced it for 30 or 40 bucks. You get potentially a lot more sales. I wish they would do that.
I like Crawford and Postal, but unless there is a fantastic undercard, which Bob is not known for, well...
I know, so why look to fight a 160 fighter??? look up to 175 if you want to fight someone from another division.hell call out the winner of Ward-Kovalev or Stevenson
Too big of a jump in weight at one time.
I'm just pointing out the fault in your way of thinking. If fighters only looked up, there would be no fights between fighters that are looking to move up
what he is saying is that the fighter aspiring to make the fight should be looking up not down. like GGG should aspire to fight Ward when he was 168 (not the other way around) and Ward should aspire to fight Kovalev etc. well at least i think that's what he means.
Theres nothing more to prove at 160 if he beats Canelo
I guess theres the WBO belt, but no-one really cares about it. I wouldn't be mad at Glolovkin-Saunders really
A move up to 168 after either Canelo/Saunders its really all thats left. 168 isn't that much better than 160 in terms of talent, but Golovkin would be at a severe handicap (being massively undersized)

CW is a much bigger jump man..thats 25 pounds

I disagree. Not fighting is best for Manny right now. Manny has tremendous value as the B side to either Floyd or Canelo. He also has value as the "a side step up" for Crawford or Verdejo. He also could try and convince JMM (maybe Cotto but I doubt it) for 1 more fight, maybe in Mexico, which would be huge.

But then why would Ward or Kovalev look down instead of up? There are good cruiserweights to fight
