in your opinion do you think there are too many weight divisions?

would fewer divisions allow for better fights? 19 divisions spread the talent thin.
Using the UK stone system helps a bit, but still skews the pools of talent:
98 (starting things at 7-stone)
112
126
140
154
168
182
196
196+
Fighters on the cusp of being out-sized will have tough decisions to make (Felix Verdejo pondering a cut down to 126 rather than being a small man at 140, with folks like Pacquiao weighing the move to 140.

double-edged sword, tbh. Consolidation would pool the talent into a bigger basket, but you'd also open things up for more mismatches, imo.
Just as an example:
-Heavyweight (200+)
-Cruiserweight (200)
-Light Heavyweight (175-161)
Kovalev, Ward, Stevenson, Fonfara, Degale, Jack, Bute, and Ramirez in the same pot
-Middleweight(160-148)
Golovkin, Jacobs, Alvarez, Charlo brothers, Lara, Andrade, Khan, Brook, and other big welters (Kell Brook and Victor Ortiz)
-Welterweight(147-136)
Garcia, Broner, Crawford, Vargas, Postol, Figueroa Jr, Provodnikov, Barthelemy
-Lightweight(135-127)
Linares, Crolla, Vargas, Pedraza, Martinez, Walters, Verdejo, Barraso, Burns
-Featherweight(126-119)
LSC, Frampton, RussellJr, Selby, Quigg, Rigondeaux, Cuellar, McDonnell, Diaz
-Bantamweight(118-113)
Payano, Warren, Kameda, Haskins, Arroyo, Tete
-Flyweight(112)
Gonzalez, Estrada, Ruenroeng, other little guys
You consolidate the weight classes too far, and you end up with matchups, similar to things in MMA, where the sheer size difference negates any actual advantage in skill.

When did Atomweight become a division.
