I've always wondered Which british boxer had faced the best opponents?
This is between-
Ricky Hatton
Joe Calzaghe
Prince Naseem
Amir Khan
In my opinion calzaghe faced the worst in terms of Prime fighters he mostly fought over the hill big names. His best win is an oldish hopkins on a split decision. Jones was finished, and long before they faced. Kessler was not elite really, was good but not great. Lacy one of the most overrated fighters ever. The end of his career eubank, is a big name but So over the hill.
Ricky's best were mayweather and pacman. both were loses and ko loses at that. A faded kostya but deserves respect for taking it on and being an underdog. Prime collazo and urango, both were close fights as well. Carlos mousa but he wasn't that good for world level.
The prince fought some good names not the best, his biggest being his only loss to barrera. He fought world champ in robinson to win it. Then beat medina, johnstone, kelly and sanchez all top competition and in american home soil. something calzaghe had to do very late in his career. The prince also beat the people by KO. being at the lower weights is more impressive.
Amir Khan- Despite having two KO losses. Has fought the most champs or ex world champs. Barrera but old and way past it. Kotelnik underrated win (giving maidana his first loss) malanaggi, Maidana, Judah, Peterson when it was a loss but highly disputed IMO. Danny garcia KO Loss. Diaz, Calazo (but very old, but had came of big win against ortiz), Alexander, Algeri, and now to fight canelo. which he will most likely lose.
Im not saying who is the best fighter but who has faced the best out of these four british legends, Im not saying khan is a legend not yet anyway.
I would determine how good a fighter is by his competition and the manner that he wins and also taking on risky fights in unfavorable conditions i.e home advantage. In this case khan has faced the most in his opponents backyard.
Agree or disagree.
Khan definitely has the biggest heart. It took a very long time for Calzaghe to gain the courage to fight anyone decent. He nearly passed out before the Jeff Lacy fight having extreme panic attacks and pulled put of a Glen Johnson fight four different times. Only at the very end of his career when he fought and beat Kessler he had some confidence in himself, but after nearly losing to 43 year old Hopkins he lost a lot of confidence and was too fearful to fight undefeated Kelly Pavlik, instead choosing to fight Roy "don't worry son, he's not that good anymore" Jones. Compared to Khan who despite losing, keeps looking to challenge himself.
Agree 100%
