Sanchez has respect for what Hopkins accomplished but said he was not as dominant at middleweight as Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) has been, noting that Hopkins’ biggest wins in the division came against smaller fighters who moved up in weight -- Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya.
“And Gennady is knocking everybody out,” Sanchez said. “We can all be critical of the opposition, but you can go back to Joe Louis, who had the ‘bum of the month club,’ or Larry Holmes or Mike Tyson. They didn’t have the best opposition either. But I don’t care who you’re fighting, if you win 15 middleweight title defenses, all by knockout, that’s a special place in history already. If he can get to 20 defenses, especially if he can get there all by knockout, that would be very special.

Tito an ODLH were the biggest names aside from RJJ but not the biggest fighters. I understand Abel hyping his fighter but GGG's run @ MW is nothing close to Hopkins when comparing caliber of opposition.
This says it all about ggg team. They have no respect for the sport. They are trying to bring down old legends to have ggg on equal footing instead of pushing the dude to be great.
It's just a blowhard trainer bigging up his guys standing. He's got a point though, Hopkins unified long ago, had his money fight vs smaller guys, didn't move up till 40. Great reign, but Ggg can match that if one of these lineal champs sacks up for once

why do people act like the wba regular title and the ibo are real belts? he has no record
Just like Hopkins record was watered down vs Monzon, this one would be vs Hopkins cause reg wba belt is not full blown. But it's no interim: Jacobs is called MW champ on pbc, Gamboa unified his reg belt vs Salido. But it's a technicality since super wba Sturm was def 2nd best to reg champ and he knew it.
Cool you also take gg over Hagler too huh?
Did Hopkins beat Hagler, or why is he coming up in a Golovkin/Hopkins debate?
Trinidad and Taylor aren't Hagler.
"best ever" is a strawman.
And if you want to take Trinidad over Golovkin at 160, have at it.
I'd take Golovkin over Jermain Taylor, too, btw.

OK we get it. Gg is the best ever. He be hypothetically beats everyone. The fact that you favor gg over a legend and great fighter like Trinidad is embarrassing

Trinidad was a great fighter, he was not a great middleweight.
What's his middleweight record, 3-2?
Wins over Joppy, Mayorga and Cherifi...dominated by Hopkins and Wright.
If Trinidad were active today, I doubt he'd be favored to beat Golovkin at 160.

The class of those guys puts GGGs entire resume to shame

It's not meaningless when the trainer of the fighter with inferior opposition is being critical of the fighter who has faced and beaten the superior opposition. If you can't understand that, there's nothing else to discuss.
Until Golovkin fights opponentso on that level your speculation and age comparisons mean absolutely nothing.
It's meaningless because the Sanchez comment WAS speculating.
He's speculating if Golovkin gets to 20 defenses.
If Golovkin reaches 20, then you can compare the two at that point.
Until then, you can compare where Golovkin is now to where Hopkins was then.
And if you really want to compare their middleweight resumes, you can take into account that Hopkins had a loss and a draw in his first two middleweight title fights.
If you don't compare them at the same age and through the same amount of fights the comparison doesn't mean anything.

The topic was the criticism of Hopkins biggest wins over so called smaller opponents. Both better than any Golovkin opponent by far.
Since you can't comprehend that and stay on topic, any further discussion about it is pointless.

Conveniently ignoring everything in Hopkins career prior to the middleweight tournament.

The topic was opponents who moved up in weight which is why I didn't get into the topic of their ages.

They were small after he schooled and beat the breaks out of them. Before that they were favored, except DLH. Winky, Trinidad, Pavlik were all favored to beat him.
I can remember on this site a lot of people were expecting Pavlik to knock Hopkins out. Of course the standard excuses came out after the fight.
So you're ok if GGG fights these names like Canelo and Cotto? They have won belts at MW.
Why would I not be okay with it? Those would be his two best opponents. It would also make Sanchez look like a hypocrite.
