He lost to Norwood. He lost to Chris John. He got absolutely schooled by Mayweather. He lost to Bradley. I mean... He is good, but how come that the only good fighter he was able to beat is Manny Pacquiao? Is Marquez really just an above average boxer who just happens to have the perfect anti-Pacquiao fighting style?
I guess we could call Marquez a high-level gatekeeper, then?
Definitely not a gate keeper. Marquez is a former world title holder in multiple divisions. He just isn't an out and out great like a Manny or a Floyd or the 2 great Mexicans of his generation.
Barrera was well past his best and the Manny win is suspicious as hell, although JMM did give Manny fits for 3 previous fights.
JMMs example is a bit like Norton, a guy well remembered for his Ali trilogy (and win) and maybe the fight with Holmes but other than that, someone who was always there and there about but never managed to really go to that next level.
That shouldn't take away from either fighter, it's just that they weren't an upper echelon great.

Juan diaz
Joel casamoyer
Barrera
Katsidis
Manny

Imagine how badly Marquez would lose if he fought Errol Spence. Marquez is very easy to hit.
you're clearly trying to bait ppl bro
why did u even bump this thread? spence is a young prime WW, and jmm is an old man
get a life guy
add Orlando Salido to JMM list of great wins Orlando Salido turn out to be better win then most thought it would be at the time he fought him.
Siri is awesome!
Why was he one of Mayweather's easiest opponents? He did worse than that fat kid Canelo did.
As great of a boxer Floyd is, he wasn't weighed down with the grind of having to be in tip-top boxing shape.....but since it was an ethic of his he was living with the pros of being retired without any of the cons of still being active....while being actively ring ready.
You add that into the fact that he was still in his prime and was still kind of growing into his WW frame he was gonna be in the best of shape seeing as how Marquez wasn't gonna come in at his first fight at WW and dominate one of the sports best. He was gonna lose regardless of WC, but i still marvel at how good his right hook was.

It's because Mayweather was very much, at least in my opinion, his prime. Both of them truthfully did not have the style to beat Mayweather but it's easier to take chances against the smaller fighter.
Yet left Pac face down and comatose. Whipped Diaz, stopped Casamayor, made the ref save Katsidis.
The point of this thread is what?

I hate Pacquiao just as much as you do, but he beat Marquez's Mexican a$$ 3 times very obviously, though in hard fights.
In my opinion, Mayweather exposed both Pacquiao, Marquez and Canelo. He made them all look so easy.
I think PAC won the first two, lost the next two against Marquez, and Floyd beat both of them easily. We pretty much agree, except the # of times PAC beat Marquez.
Many have Marquez winning the third fight easily. But the face down azz up was iconic!! Should I send you a poster of it!! That was awesome.
After that he fought Algieri and Rios, Hahahahahahaha bwahahahahaha ha!
Pro wrestling looks more credible than those choices.. But, both Chris, and Brandon, got paid to be an opponent for the guy who was smashed like an empty beer can.. You have drunk beer, and smashed the empty can after right?
Then Floyd completed the exposure of PAC.
But Marquez has more knock outs, PAC being one of them... Devestating KO loss. C'mon man, get real Floyd was never dropped or stopped!!! Marquez dropped, but unlike PAC got off that fvcking canvas, like a real warrior and put in his work!!
HAHAhahahahahahaha. Bwahahahahahaha

Yeah, after losing 3 times to Pacquiao before that.
Don't mention Diaz, Casamayor or Katsidis. The wins that Marquez really needed were Chris John and Freddie Norwood and Pacquiao and Mayweather, but he failed every time, except when he suddenly caught Pacquiao perfectly in his fourth attempt.

Marquez is or was, depending on how you see his current career status, a great counter puncher with massive heart, power and ring iq. Sadly his footspeed and defense let him down several times and made him vulnerable but his recovery and courage would always come in play and made him a threat to any volume puncher fighter he faced. Could he be outboxed? Yes, but it took talent to do so clearly.
His issue is he's one-dimensional.
He's got tremendous focus though. The guy is always awake during the fight(no on the ropes break, resting behind a high guard etc) and he has absolutely no quit in him, constant eye of the tiger.
