Today's boxing fan be like:
"Fighters today are divas. They don't fight anybody"
"He ducking doe"
"Boxing is dead. No good fights are being made."
"UFC has passed boxing. The best actually fight the best."
"Boxers are cherrypickers. They want the lowest risk for the highest amount of money."
Yet...380,000 fans purchased May/Berto, 400K purchased Pac/Algieri, 800K watched Floyd rematch Maidana, 350K watched Canelo/Angulo, and 500K watched Pac fight Bradley for a 3rd time.
Only the Pac/Bradley triology was a fight between two top 5 contenders in a division. What's wrong with this picture?
Shouldn't the best matchups be on PPV and the mismatches be on free TV? Since 2008, these are the only PPV fights that involved a unanimous 1 vs. 2 matchup in a division:
1. Mayweather vs. Canelo
2. Canelo vs. Lara
3. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao
Is this proof that boxing fans don't care about the best fighting the best but have a casual side of them that just cares about the big names?
Money was shelled out for mismatch after mismatch, year after year, but when we actually get a fight worth watching it's time to watch your budget?
Canelo is a proven ppv commodity. No one besides die hard fight fans will purchase this PPV, unless theirs a real solid undercard to go with it.
And that still might be enough. They probably only need 50-75K buys to cover the purses.
This brings me back to the Bradley vs Alexander, which was a fight that was supposed to be made at that time. It was huge here on boxingscene, but fight came and I didn't know why it's still not on when it's almost midnight (EST). They didn't even show any one of the undercards. Then it became clear that the fight didn't sell just seeing the number of people in the audience. FNF had better attendance.
PPVs are made on the basis of market appeal, not quality. Crawford-Postol is a great fight but who's heard of them?
That's a problem. You have people that watch boxing 1-2 times per year having a say in who the top fighters face every year. Which is why there has been a disconnect in the response to Canelo/Khan. The public loves it, the hard cores call it a joke.
This will likely be the only way we can see fights like this get made. If this fails, be prepared for years and years of Golovkin/Monroe, Crawford/Lundy, Kovalev/Caparello type fights where a $1.5 million A-side fighter taking on a $150K B-side fighter because that's all the network can squeeze into the budget. If you think about it, Loma/Walters fell apart over $300K which is only a little over 4,000 PPV buys.
I'm asking you as a boxing fan. Why accept fights like Canelo/Khan as PPVs but turn your nose up at fights like these? I can understand a casual having that mindset but shouldn't we be willing to pay to see the best fight the best as opposed to a mismatch involving a name fighter?

Neither guy has a name and tbh it's not even that high quality of a fight. It's a good fight but let's be clear, neither Postol nor Crawford have accomplished much at the elite level. Buying this ppv, you are paying for potential. Even as a hardcore fan, I prefer not to pay for potential. Especially in boxing.
So wait this Crawford-Postol fight is on PPV?
I mean they're both undefeated top guys, but Bob can't put this fight on PPV. Hell Mayweather vs Corrales were #8 and #5 P4P respectively, undefeated, and top #1 and #2 SFW's and Bob/HBO didn't put that fight on PPV because it would have bombed. Mayweather-Castillo would have also bombed. This fight will bomb so hard, if it does 25k I would be surprised.
That fight would've never happened today because Floyd made $1.7 mil and Corrales made $1.4 mil. That's a $3.1 million license fee which would be more 10% of HBO's entire budget for 2016. Boxing has changed.
The best fighting the best costs money and with all of these budget cuts that money has to come from somewhere else. Which is why they are looking for these smaller scale PPVs.
I think this is HBO's way of cutting off boxing. Unbelievable that a WCB type of fight will be on PPV. HBO/Arum better have an undisclosed preset figure of 150k to lie to the reporters and media with, because this sh*t would be a massive success if it even hits the 75k mark.
Donaire vs Rigondeaux would have been PPV in today's standards. In fact, there were similar fights back then that were not on PPV. Likewise, Broner vs Maidana was on regular subscription. So what do you think changed?
Add in the fact that Crawford's last fight drew 900K viewers and Postol's last fight drew 600K viewers.
I'm a big Crawford fan, but I hope that PPV does like 25K PPV buys. I want everyone to lose so much money they never even consider something so preposterous again.
Because trust me, if this works, every decent fight will be on PPV.

That goes both ways though. On the flip side, everybody will be sidelined because HBO doesn't have the budget to pay the best to fight the best. I give props to Floyd and Pac for testing themselves early in their careers but they were paid well to do it. Floyd got $1.7 mil vs Corrales and Pac got $1.75 mil for the first Morales fight.
Since the networks don't have the budgets anymore, PPV is the only other option. It would be nice if PBC's model works but it's still a work in progress.
Fvck the casuals...I have no problem paying for elite competitive fights like this one.
It'll be the only truly competitive fight on ppv so far this year.
You won't even have a forum like this if there are no casuals, who comprised 95% of the paying public. Most hardcores just stream fights for free.

i see what you did there....lol...to answer the thread...because neither are stars at all and it would not even do 100k
I think we all mean it's not PPV worthy as in it's gonna bomb at the box office. Competitive fights that need to happen aren't always big sellers if neither guy has that superstar quality.
