How well do you think Arturo Gatti would have competed against today's jr welterweight/welterweight fighters.
I'm talking about guys like...
- Terrence Crawford
- Adrien Broner
- Ruslan Provodnikov
- Lucas Matthysse
- Keith Thurman
- Shawn Porter
- Amir Khan
- Tim Bradley
- Danny Garcia
I think Porter and Thurman beats him only cause of their speed. Everyone else gets their ass kicked.
You make some good points. Maybe we're making some hasty comments. I would bet most of those other guys would beat Gatti but maybe I'm just remembering the fights where Gatti looked bad or was reckless. I would consider Thurman to be a heavy favourite because he can outbox Gatti and he's got good power. Porter might walk through Gatti just because of his strength and speed. But who knows for sure. Provodnikov vs Gatti would be interesting.
I just can't help remember how badly Baldomir and Gomez beat the hell out of Arturo. Those were extreme beatings. But Gatti was very faded at the time.
Another thing about Gatti is that he wasn't a very big guy and when he started getting hit he would always resort to brawling. That's something that would end badly if he were fighting some of these welterweights.
Yes but Baldomir would walk through Porter and Thurman no? Baldomir is a level above the Luis Collazo's of the world.
You say he might crumble but we have 3 fights in his prime when he took hellacious punches vs Ward. Thurman I think has the best chance since he is such an intelligent boxer and will stay away.
Gatti would win some and lose some.
Most of the fighters you named haven't been in enough "fights" to know if they could handle Gatti.
Gatti in his prime was a beast, everyone is judging him by Oscar, Floyd (Gatti was done at this point) and fights after his prime was over.
Thurman, Porter and Crawford have yet to face the level of excellence that Gatti had for over a decade. Gatti could take a punch and give a punch, these 3 have faced mostly easy opponents.
Gatti would have held his own in any era, he had the chin, heart and punch to win.
People should watch some Gatti fights before thinking he is a joke, he will probably be remembered more than the fighters you listed.
As of right now, yes he probably would be remembered more than the fighters listed. Although Khan seems to have a degree of fame. Not sure Gatti could beat the better fighters in that list though.
Are they? You've deduced that by watching Gatti vs Floyd/Oscar and Crawford vs Dulorme/Beltran ...
There was a young up coming fighter named Zab Judah who everyone thought was the next big thing... He went 12 with Mickey Ward... Judah's Power>Crawford's Power

Compete? Yes. How successful would he be? Not very, Crawford, Khan, Porter, Bradley, Garcia, Thurman would beat him pretty handily IMO. Gatti was a reasonably small Welter.
Matthysee, Broner, Prov might end up being wars though, Gatti always brought it though.

Gamboa would beat him though. Im talking about 130 Gatti against 130 Gamboa. Gamboa is a midget, but he's the most skilled midget of this era. He would hurt Gatti repeatedly. Remember Gatti lost at 130 3 times.
Crawford was a huge Lightweight like Gatti. Only difference is Gatti and Crawford are world's apart skill wise.

Gatti was a fun fighter to watch but I would favour all those fighters to beat him and most of them would destroy him.
I was a big fan of Arturo's but I have to be real. Gatti might have a puncher's chance but it's likely he get's outboxed and steamrolled by most of these guys...or all of these guys.
Wow I so honestly disagree.. Who have these guys beaten that you think is as good as Gatti... You don't think these guys buckle when Gatti lands a three piece? Do you think any of these guys do better against a prime Oscar? I'd expect him to do that to all the guys mentioned...
Not a Gatti fan at all really but find this strange... How do you guys think a prime Corley matches up? just out of interest
I loved watching Gatti. Exciting fights, big heart. I never really rated him that much though being truthful.
Most, if not all of those guys beat him i'd say.

I love Gatti, but
- Terrence Crawford- Beats the hell out of Gatti. Like Floyd did. TKO.
- Adrien Broner- Broner sits in one spot and picks Gatti off on the way in. Late KO or UD Broner.
- Ruslan Provodnikov- Pick em fight.
- Lucas Matthysse- If Lucas goes deep with Gatti its a fight. I question if Lucas heart would hold up if he didnt get Gatti out of there early. Pick em.
- Keith Thurman- Keith beats Gatti up.
- Shawn Porter- Porter beats Gatti up.
- Amir Khan- One sided unless Gatti clips him.
- Tim Bradley- Beats Gatti up.
- Danny Garcia- Knocks Gatti out.
Thanks for the laugh this morning....
I bet you were not even around at the time :lol1:
Gatti was seen as a threat to Mayweather believe or not. Mayweather was favored, but it was seen as a good fight. Gatti's "size" was seen as a big deal for Mayweather.
Now Gamboa beats Gatti....You guys are a joke... I'm actually embarrassed you are a fellow Cotto fan.

Is this a serious post? Ward was a club fighter. He would have been embarrassed by Crawford. Gatti would have been killed by Gamboa.

If you think the guy that got rocked and nearly beaten by Gamboa survives the wars with Ward you are a fanboy and nothing more...I'm not a huge Gatti fan, He was easy to hit when he lost his head which was pretty much all the time...but He was also fast and durable and had good pop on his shots.
Who's the best fighter TC has beaten again? Ray Beltran? :)

True. Gatti was incredibly difficult to hit.

Crawford was getting tagged by Lundy round after round...And has average hand speed at best..
You laugh because you have no argument
