Wouldn't that help him become a star at a faster rate than if he fought only on PPV & HBO?
Imagine the ratings he would do on HBO if he fought on NBC, FOX, and ESPN before going back to HBO.
what for boxing on network tv gets its views from sport lovers lack of other options, look what happens when boxing goes against any other sporting events it loses. People are over estimating network viewership it has no crossover effect in terms of numbers for a fighter, NO PBC fighter has ever gained in paid viewership from their network appearances in front of million.
So its all just anecdotal information.
true but i think that had more to do with showtime boxing going away now that they have a steady schedule i expect boxing fans to re subscribe to showtine
500k x $20 subscription = $10,000,000
Doesn't work that way...just because someone watched a boxing match doesn't mean they paid their monthly fee just for that...a bunch of people have HBO for Game of Thrones but they might watching boxing too. In any event, neither GGG nor his promoter (nor HBO boxing, for that matter) gets to see any of that money.
PBC has tried this.
And it has completely failed or have you not noticed Showtimes ratings?
None of the PBC guys who went back on Showtime had improved ratings. Matter of fact almost all of them have had plummoting ratings.
It just doesn't work like that. You can't just throw fighters on network tv and expect people to suddenly give a crap about them.
And you're saying it would have been better if Thurman hadn't fought in front of 4 million viewers and Wilder hadn't been seen by 3 million viewers...????
A bigger audience that doesn't care about boxing? These people won't even remember him once the fights over. It's already been pointed that these numbers on prime time don't translate into more viewers on cable. If they did wilder's last fight wouldn't have bombed. Your argument is very poor.
Yeah you're right. 500k viewers on HBO is optimal for GGG.
Bigger audience? More name recognition?

I asked you what the benefit is and you offered none. You can't articulate why he should leave HBO to fight on prime time TV.
Bigger audience? More name recognition?
Oh... so you're saying that the smaller audience is better for GGG?
Like the 150k who watched him fight Lemieux? I get it

What would be the benefit of being watched by a few more million people who wouldn't recognize his name if he fought again? He's already selling out arenas. He's plateaued until he beats a big name fighter. People watch boxing on prime time for the same reason I watch golf on Sunday, it's on tv. Most people watching those fights don't care about boxing, just like I don't care about golf. If they did you'd see a migration of viewers to showtime boxing. The exact opposite has happened.

Oh... so you're saying it wouldn't be good for Golovkin to fight in front of 4 million viewers rather than less than 1.4 million viewers?

Well It hasn't helped any of the PBC guys.
Wilder, Cruz, Jacobs, Quillin. All guys who headlined PBC on network tv.
All of there Showtime ratings have gone down.
There is a reason television shows are on the same time and same channel. It's called consistency. Something none of the Showtime or PBC guys have which is why Showtimes ratings plummeted.

So PBC pays less than HBO now? Cool story bro
In general, no, PBC pays more money for sh1t matches.
For Golovkin specifically, which is who you're talking about, he would get less. I know you're allergic to facts and have no sources for any of your crap, but here are some PBC purses:
