Wow you're leaving out a lot! Hopkins, after the deal was announced, talked about a Haymon conspiracy. He said Stevenson/Haymon were stalling on the deal because Haymon wanted Hopkins to get stripped of his IBF belt, which meant another Haymon LHW would have fought for the vacant title. Hopkins believed that's why they weren't making a deal. Hopkins had to wait until the very last day to make a decision to fight Kovalev, one more day and the deadline is over and he has to fight Mohammedi or drop the belt. Hopkins believed Haymon was trying to force him to get stripped so that he would be worth less at the negotiating table. Also, it wasn't like this was some great deal Hopkins got (just over $1 million for fighting The Krusher, which to Hopkins isn't a big deal). You're right.
