So Provodnikov (25-4, 18 KOs), who will make his Showtime debut against John Molina Jr. on June 11, is no longer a consideration for Crawford’s next fight. On Monday, Arum told ESPN.com that while July 23 remains the date for Crawford’s next fight, the site could change and, more significantly, he will fight on HBO PPV, not regular HBO.
“We’re definitely going July 23 but we’re not sure if it will be still be at the Forum, but that’s one of the places we’re considering,” Arum said. “It depends on the opponent but we may go to Omaha (Nebraska, Crawford’s hometown). It may go to Las Vegas, maybe in the new (T-Mobile Arena). But we are doing a pay-per-view card around Crawford.”
That is quite the change of plans but Arum said “it has to do with budgets and so forth. HBO is going to do a lot of its fights on pay-per-view.”

There's no PPV fight for Crawford. Pacquiao will retire, Bradley and Crawford said they won't fight each other, and all the other big names are with Haymon.
Postol vs Crawford isn't a PPV fight.
If HBO doesn't have the budget then i'm ok with this and Arum is doing his job by keeping him busy, especially if he fights Postol.
Yeah, it sounds like it is an activity issue for Crawford and time/budget restraints from HBO.
Crawford camp wants three fights this year, sounds like HBO can only do two.
Given that, I don't have a problem with the fight (if it's Postol) being on PPV, especially since it's a good match-up.
Frankly, I have less of a problem with good PPV match-ups than I do bad HBO/SHO match-ups, because the viewer can choose if they want to buy PPV...and if this card is reasonably priced with a solid undercard, I'll probably buy.
Can't say the same for some of the other potential PPV's being floated around.
Don't know why people keep throwing names like Bradley, Pac, Marquez here. They actually think they would be instantly and magically available on July 23, 2016?
Bradley's last 6 fights alone averages 6 months apart. And his forthcoming fight is not even over yet.
Postol is the only one available for Crawford. Nobody else.
Postol is a big, strong dude... and he's a master clincher until he get's ya'...

It's not great for the sport, but it's better than taking time off, and it's not like I would have ever bought any ppvs to begin with.
You all are missing the real take-away here. This is less about Crawford and more about what Arum said about budgets and "HBO is going to do a lot of it's fights on Pay Per View."
That's very, very interesting. Wonder how HBO plans to do this heavier PPV schedule and if there will be a lower average price.
Highway robbery.
Meanwhile Showtime is doing all its fights on Showtime.
That's the same way I see it.
Bradley wouldn't be ready for July either, even if they decided to fight.
I'm trying to find an opponent and I can't come up with one for ppv.
Postol is not a fight I would buy
Broner would be perfect, but I doubt we see that
Kell brook is the only fight I can maybe see being ppv worthy without haymon fighters.
Who are you thinking?
Really got no idea.... Bradley seems most likely even though it's a quick turnaround and he would have to beat manny.. Maybe manny..
I really don't know... The only PPv worthy matchups would be
Bradley
Manny
Danny
Kell Brook really has no recognition in the states...
Dark horse: Juan Manuel Marquez
I really like Crawford, but he simply hasn't reached that level yet. If it isn't Pac/Bradley, it doesn't seem plausible. I wonder how many HBO PPVs we're going to get this year.
I'd pay like $30 to see him vs Broner,Garcia,Porter,Thurman,Postal..
That's it....
Pac or Bradley won't be ready for July, Marquez hasn't fought in 2 years and Mikey Garcia? Really? Lol
How the hell is Crawford going to carry a PPV card? That's just not going to happen.

Can you buy HBO PPVs in your location?
Thankfully we don't have to :lol1: - point being, I most certainly wouldn't.
BoxNation allow you to pay for one off fights, I wouldn't buy a Crawford fight. He's just not a PPV fighter.
HBO makes 95% of their profits from original programming.
No need to spend on second tier events. It would be entirely different if they did 4 premium fights a year on regular HBO... Kovalev-Ward, GGG-Canelo, Fury-Wilder, Bradley-Pac.
Just 4 premium events with 24/7 would be better than what they have now.
Without PPV I think those fights cannot happen.
If I heard it right, this is not the only PPV HBO will try to come up with, according to Arum. I thought I read the word, "lots," lots of PPV fights on HBO this year.
I'm guessing they're changing their business strategies. Boxing is no longer sustainable they have to come up with something. The way it is now boxers want truckloads of money when they're asked to face tough opposition. The compromise would be to pay a small guarantee and the additional payment would depend on the success of the PPV. That way boxers would at least bear some responsibility when it fails. Guess who would be in the best position to promote the fight? Exactly. The boxers themselves, not only outside, but inside the ring. You fight with a boring style, then you have only to blame yourself why your card failed. They could at least do their best promoting the fight outside the ring.
exactly what i was thinking
Maybe a TC vs AB hbo/st split? HBO ppv, subscription showtime???lol best i can think of, and a solution to end the cold war
That's the perfect fight for July 23 on ppv.
But they don't have to split anything. Broner doesn't have a network contract. So that fight could happen on hbo with no problem if crawford, arum, broner, and Haymon want it for real.
I would pay 50 bucks for that ppv. With a good Co main event
True...
No way is vargas worthy...
Crawford would either have to fight bradley(if he beats manny) or some haymon/gbp fighter like danny, khan, etc.. All seem highly unlikely and seems to me that hbo has nothing left in the budget so crawford is getting forced to PPv even though there isn't a major opponent for him
That's the same way I see it.
