i respect any boxer who can switch stances on a consistent basis at a pro level.
there's a reason why pacquiao is fighting a useless third fight vs bradley as opposed to crawford.
crawford is the real deal.
Excellent post
I'm not using triangle theories. I'm saying that I think Floyd would have figured Diaz out by round 3.
But didn't figure out Judah until round 4? Or Chavez until round....???? He very well might have but that's still a completely irrelevant fact..Like I said I believe Marquez would dominate the Castillo that Floyd fought but it's not relevant.
Floyd won the fight against Manny based on his jab as his primary weapon. You asked for a round, I gave you a fight.
Saying Floyd doesnt have the power to KO guys is completely besides the point, as power is a physical attribute and not a 'skill'. Just like speed is a physical attribute instead of a skill.
Floyd's jab and right hands are alot better then JMM's because he can use them effectively in a multitude of ways.
Floyd is a much better body puncher. JMM hasnt won fights on an elite level with it. Watch the Hatton, Judah and Mitchell fights to see Floyd do it.
Lastly, he pulls his head back with his hands down on purpose, that much should have been obvious to you.
Again, you refuse to address their defensive skills.
I'm not ignoring defensive skills..Floyd is one of the best ever...No argument, it goes without saying.
That's just not true at all. It has everything to do with technique... Floyd lands his punches at the end of his length meaning his weight doesn't transfer properly. He has the "power" but his hands and defensive mindset coupled with the bad habit mentioned above sees him get less stoppages than he should.
Punchers are born and it can't be taught is bull****.
He does everything on purpose but pulling back like that is still a flaw... It's to avoid bodyshots but if he is feinted properly he can be hit.
I can see we are just gonna disagree...I'm kinda done with this, The margin is to small to argue
We can only agree to disagree then, as for his left hook it was a much better punch in the lower weight classes and it pales in comparison to what it became as he doesn't use it with nowhere near the same consistency, nor does he go to the body with it like he once did. His most memorable may be at the higher weights but he was a much better left hook artist at the lower weights.
Best uppercut he landed, thought about it for a good min and I'd say it was against Gerena.
Young Floyd could do it all. Left hook to the head or the body, left uppercuts, right uppercuts, absolutely lethal with his straight right hand.
And underneath it all a superb, air tight defense that was almost impossible to crack. He really was something special.
Okay, Floyd's jab is good but it's not some unbelievable weapon and in fact many fighters in his mold, including him are criticized for not using the jab enough.
His jab to the body is better...But his upper jab? His power jab? What round did Floyd ever win with his jab? I distinctly remember him trying to jab with Cotto in the 6th and being dominated(Cotto's jab is admittedly better than Marquez's due to his lead hand being his dominant hand)
And yes his pull counter and lead right are better but can he knock out someone like Manny with even four tries? I don't think so ! Floyd's never had a Ray Leonard/Chris Eubank right hand that puts guys to sleep...never..His right hand is better yes but by how much? Floyd's is a 10/10 but Marquez at least 8-8.5/10.
Uppercuts is Marquez all day....Both guys neglect the body but Floyd does have the Jab and Right uppercut to the solar plexus.
Marquez has better timing, Floyd has better reflexes . It's why Floyd only counters with one punch.
I think skills alone Floyd is overrated...Seriously the guy pulls straight back with his hands down Soooo often...

No but I also don't think triangle theories work in boxing.
I'm not using triangle theories. I'm saying that I think Floyd would have figured Diaz out by round 3.
Like I said, Floyd is better at adapting. You think Floyd would have taken as long to adapt against Diaz as Marquez did?

You have a point , I will admit. Seeing him slap with the punch now is kinda sad. I stand by the uppercut though :)
You don't honestly think 130 Marquez would have had a chance against 130 Floyd, do you?
No version of Marquez wins any rounds against any version of Floyd.
No because they still aren't the same size..Just the same weight..I'm saying if you had two robots made the same and put Marquez's brain in one robot and Floyd's in the other that Marquez would beat the **** out of him. But on a side note...How sucky is it that they will BOTH be gone soon :(
Hmm...
Floyd has a better jab
better right hand
better body puncher
better timing
better at setting the distance
better with setting angles
better footwork
And better at everything defensively by a country mile. Im not sure why you chose to leave those parts out. Obviously JMM takes more cahnces then Floyd does so he will get tagged more, but the differencial is so one sided that it cant be ignored.
Im a big fan of JMM too. I think doesnt get his just due when its all said and done.
I think that skillswise Floyd matches up with the top 5 ATGs but JMM is a level or two below.

I think Marquez is the ultimate hustler...If you don't have a speed advantage you are pretty much ****ed..I've scored all his fights fairly with a calm head and only ever scored Floyd and Bradley against him(won't begrudge people thinking Manny took fight 1 by a point or two but I do disagree). He has an uncanny ability to adapt to an opponents offense and landing some of the most beautiful counter punches you will ever see.
He is a master of misdirection, distance and timing. he's knows every punch in the book and has the technique to hurt men twice his size. And I don't think many have match his ability to feint someone into position. Marquez is ahead of Floyd for me P4P all time.... not all time achievement...But P4P head to head...Marquez got this or pulls a Floyd out we've never had the joy to see.

Yes I do, Floyd'd hardest fights are those he chose to fight in the pocket...Chavez, Augustus, Castillo and Cotto all guys that got inside and gave Floyd problems... Marquez would have trounced that version of Castillo and the Corrales he went to war with on the same night. And you are over estimating Floyd's left hook,it was amazing against Corrales. Other than the best hooks he's probably landed are at 147, the Check hook that got Hatton and the one that Dropped Marquez(although the two piece Floyd hits Marquez with in round 6 may be the nicest combination ever). Go ask Philip N'dou and the 3 straight right hands in a row he ate on the way down. I've seen every Floyd can pull punches from memory. Like for instance the best uppercut he ever landed was a lightening quick cheeky one against the severely overmatched Jerry Cooper. P4P Marquez > Floyd IMO and tbh I prefer Floyd and was rooting for him when they fought

Marquez is the better combination puncher entirely and he does throw the better uppercuts (I think he's the greatest uppercut artist I've ever seen personally) but that in no way makes him a better inside fighter. Mayweather understands the angles up close better, he knows how to position himself and he'll usually get right under his opponent sticking his left shoulder on to their face to limit their offense, you honestly think Juan Diaz or Katsidis would have touched Mayweather in the manner that they touched Marquez? No way.
Marquez is a mid range counter puncher who isn't reluctant to throw on the inside which is a testament to how ballsy he is but defensively he's usually getting tagged as he looks to get into range.

At the lower weight classes Mayweather's left hook was arguably better than his right hand, take a second to actually think about that. He was certainly a better combination puncher than what we saw at '47. Just can't see it.
Marquez has better combos, Is literally way better inside.. Marquez uppercuts are way better than Floyd right uppercut to the body which is his primary weapon inside. I feel like you haven't watch early Marquez. Even if you watch their fight , Floyd completely outspeeds Marquez but never once does he stand in front of him and outbox him. When Floyd dropped him and tried to go after Marquez he found out fast how bad of an idea that was.

Floyd will never fight someone with much longer reach and height than him,

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight............................
Im surprised you see such a skill gap between the two.
How do you break it down?
