Juan Manuel Marquez.
One thing Marquez hated was having to be the aggressor against slick fighters, so what did he do? He avoided them altogether. He never, EVER wanted to have to go through what Floyd subjected him to in their fight. All that running, blocking, ducking, moving was too much for him.
It's no wonder he won't even consider taking on Crawford or anyone of that nature. He wants to bank off the slow plodders like Rios and Alvarado.

Marquez and Nacho didnt want to fight Tim Bradley after he got that decision over Manny, they said the fight would be boring and he runs too much, yet they jumped on the opportunity to fight him after Ruslan took his soul and had him wobbling the entire ring concussed.
Its not secret Marquez and Nacho do not like fighting movers, Marquez uses the Matador style, it relies on countering aggression and side stepping, Marquez never blocks or holds in fights, he is one dimensional, everytime he got knocked down it was from him trying to apply pressure, Floyd dropped him when he came forward, Pacquiao, katsidis, Diaz, etc. He only applies pressure when someone is hurt but he cannot fight going forward.
I like Marquez but his entire career has been defined on Pacquiao.
Marquez struggled with Chris John, and Norwood, also I think part of the reason JMM and Nacho do not like to fight guys who move off the back food besides being a style problem is the Derick Gainer fight, Gainer literally was running the entire fight not doing much avoiding conflict.
In the Norwood fight Nacho kept telling JMM dont go back go forward, but Marquez didn't pressure at all he just circled and went with what he was comfortable with trying to wait for the guy to come in.
If JMM fought Casamayor in his prime he would probably get out boxed with ease, similar to how Bradley did.
Good point, Marquez look like sh1t when fighting chris john. i still score that fight draw but man Marquez really look uncomfortable being the aggressor
Marquez is a counter Puncher that's not there fight it would be Like Floyd taking it to Madaina trading with him, he would get knock out
It's crazy. They say Floyd avoided prime, young, slick, black fighters, then the first name that always comes up is Paul Williams.
:lol1: :lol1:
The only thing that was slick about him was his ride.
This is nothing new. It used to be everyone's favorite argument against Pac, then Pac fans turned it on Mayweather, only back then they just went ahead and said they were avoiding black fighters.
They're both basically saying, "why didn't Pac/Floyd fight a young black guy?"

True and he only fought Bradley because he thought he was ruined by the Provodnikov war. After that he was probably licking his lips thinking he could lure Bradley into traps and get his 5th division title by KO. Bradley isn't a 'slick' fighter in general i guess but before the Provo fight he weren't interested in Bradley.
Bradley fought like a poor mans Floyd and got the win.
either way, Marquez is a legend and fought a lot of great fighters. Fast, good jab and backwards movement is a nightmare for his style.

Know what kills your argument? He fought Floyd after he lost to Freddie Norwood.
Who are these "slick" boxers that Pac and Floyd avoided?
I'm learning that many people don't actually know what slick is, so can I see a list of names?

He fought Pac and Bradley after he fought Floyd dumass, both of which are in the 'slick' category.
Selective memory like yours is the bane of humanity, an embarassment even cause it makes mankind seem like the dummest creature walking on planet earth.
Well, if you were a bit smarter you'd put two and two together and realize he's at the tail end of his career and doesn't want to waste his last fight(s) on a guy like Crawford. Too much risk with little reward. He wants big names, that's why Cotto's name keeps coming up.

I know Pacquiao fought the Loser of Erik Morales vs Zahir Raheem instead of fighting the winner but I somewhat understand that because he wanted revenge but Zahir Raheem had a style that would've given anybody problems back then
As for Mayweather, really don't know many "Slick" fighters he could've fought but didn't. Emanuel Augustus aka Emmanuel Burton at the time was as slick as they came and that time. Maybe Winky Wright I guess :dunno:
floyd ducked greased lightning amir khan and fought dripping molasses andre berto
turn your slickness badge in boy

Boxing hippies are now giving a new meaning to slick. They're tired of making fun of "slick" and using it as a punchline. If you can't beat em join em. They're like 'my fave fighter is now slick too!'

Crawford isn't a big name he can fight a clown like Rios an make Tim Bradley money

It had nothing to do with being the aggressor or countering! Floyd popped him anytime he made a mistake! Whether its a lead, counter, just far too good for JMM. Floyd came to the center of the ring and did work from start to finish Lol
