Not only did he drop his hands a lot, but he would take steps forward while they were dropped. He did it a lot in the first holyfield fight as well as the briggs fight.
Why? I'd imagine this drove Steward crazy.....
I think it was for 2 reasons - one was that Lewis performed at his best when he was relaxed which meant his hands would naturally drop. Secondly it was part of Lewis' offense. The thing about dropped hands is that a lot trainers don't want you do it because it compromises your defence. With Lewis being so tall and long, it's difficult to judge where a punch is coming from due to holding hands so low. The Tyson KO is a classic example of this, Tyson didn't see the punch:
This makes sense. thanks!

It's putting the other fighter where u want him. Lewis had good control of range & decent footwork.
Fighters are looking for their opponents to drop their hands, when u see it u take it. Lewis knew this & would bait them into showing their hands then make them pay, he got caught out with it a couple of times though
An ATG
It's no coincidence that most British fighters fight with their hands down e.g. Fury, Naseem, Lewis. The British don't believe in defensive fighting. They leave that for sissy Americans.
hmmmmm....

Because my favorite fighter of all time had thunder in both hands as well as considerable reach.
