Crazy to think that just as little as 4 years ago he was being groomed as the next PPV star and the fighter of the decade by some. He had just blasted through the Olympian Escobedo, Perez as well as DeMarco. He then looked a little off against 5'3" Gavin Rees then proceeded to barely scrap by a shot Paulie Malignaggi. It all seemed to have gone downhill from there.
Was the huge size advantage he had at the lower weights a big factor in his early success? And now that he's the same size as his opposition he simply isn't very good?
No, he'll always have that name that people want on their resume. Solid contender.
But if he fights anything like he did against Khabib he'll be just fine. In fact he can easily creep his way in the top 10 P4P if he continues beating decent 140lb fighters with ease.
really? khabib, theophane, and unranked guys like that are going to get him on the p4p list? says the same guy who bashes ggg even though he's beaten 3 top 5 guys and 7 top 10 guys in the last 3 years. such strange fluctuationg standards.

Well to be fair, Maidana is elite himself. At least a dedicated, well trained, determined Maidana is. Elites lose to each other, sometimes by wide decisions, it happens. With that said I do agree that Broner is not elite, and sometimes an average fighter can have a great day and beat an elite fighter.
Agree on all accounts, Bud.
Did Zab ever lose to a guy like Theophane though?
Zab Judah's worst lost was to Baldomir. Baldomir is a guy people love to clown on as a journeyman fighter who was a nobody. So maybe Judah an even worse loss than Theopane? Baldomir was ranked #10 WW when Zab, The Ring WW champ, lost to him. So it's kinda worse. Because nobody thinks much of Broner. Theopane beating Broner would be an upset, but not an epic one, it'll be like "Well he struggled vs Gaving Reese and Malignaggi already..surely Theopane is at least that level as well."
He's been done but they will rob Theopane if he manages to work Broner over. Broner will never face a semi-legit threat again, Hymen knows what will happen.
Porter and Maidana made it clear that Broner isn't at the elite level.

He will always be a name, but not a good fighter. He will make a career out of his name alone. See Zab Judah.

At some point in any (great) fighters career, he will have to go on a legendary run. If he can do that at any point in his career, he's good. Even if he loses to Theophane.
His career won't be over, people will still watch him.
He needs get aggressive again IMO. Hes become too content to just sit back and try and pick his shots, and he's not good enough to do that at the elite level.
Needs to be more offensive IMO.
Nah people will forget if he robs Theopane, just like they forgot about the Ponce De Leon, Malignaggi and Quintero robberies. If he loses officially, then there'll probably be a rematch. He should really have 5 official losses already.
Broner is a talented self-promoter, if only a mediocre boxer, and sometimes self-promotion can trump actual boxing ability in this shallow, materialistic, image-orientated world.
could not have said it better!
Well done Sir!
His career as an elite fighter is already over. He's a grade above journeyman and grade below elite. He's kind of just a guy who is just good enough to lose to the top 5. Look he's got enough talent and fan base to be relevant for another few years at least. So that's good for him.
Is Broner the next fighter of the decade? No! Will he ever become P4P top 5? No, can he still accomplish something in boxing and beat credible opponents? Yes he can. It's not over for him yet, he's still 26 years old and from his last fight he's far from being washed up, he's a good fighter with bad habits that will always have problems with a certain style, if they match him right and if he dedicates himself more he can go down as an atg for all we know, he's an exciting fighter that leaves it all in the ring "except against Porter" and he's good for boxing, just wait and watch how his career winds up without being so judgemental.
based entirely on how the fight goes

If he puts forward a **** performance (feet in the cement, simply getting outhustled), Adrien Broner would 31-3 with no title to his name and shaky performances, almost entirely, in top-level fights.
Broner would be at least 3 fights away from another title shot, with all of those bouts likely set for the small stage. Doubt he keeps committed to the long slog.
His career has been pretty much dead in the water after maidana took his 0 and then porter finished what was left of him
The hypejob has been exposed. there was no hype no more.
