The WBC has officially approved the bout.
It looks as though Roman Gonzalez will continue his buddy-cop routine with Gennady Golovkin, as the WBC has approved a fight between Gonzalez and Mexico's Juan Hernandez for Golovkin's April 23rd title defense.
The fight is not yet 100% official, but everything seems set.
Hernandez (30-2, 21 KO), whom our own Scott Christ listed as "on the cusp" of the flyweight top-10, has been mostly content to demolish mid-tier opposition since a 2011 loss to Kazuto Ioka, winning twelve straight in his native Mexico. He blasted out former minimumweight title challenger Jesus Silvestre four days ago and, reportedly, had caught Gonzalez's eye for his combination-heavy offense even before then.
"Chocolatito" (44-0, 38 KO) is currently riding a ten-fight knockout streak, bolstered by three impressive performances in 2015. After dispatching journeyman Valentin Leon in February, he tore apart Edgar Sosa on the undercard of Golovkin's bout with Willie Monroe and dismantled Brian Viloria prior to Golovkin's own beating of David Lemieux.
He currently owns the WBC flyweight title, which he has defended thrice.
Can't peter Nelson force him to fight someone great? Another showcase fight for roman I guess
Can you imagine if Manny or floyd fought someone with 29 losses as roman did last February ? People would be asking for their heads. Id rather roman fight one great opponent than stay busy fighting 4 no hopers a year
Please, Chocolatito would have K.O segura and Tyson before the 4th and make it look easy. Nobody on Estrada resume would make it past the 9th round.
Wait, are you implying that Estrada didn't make it look easy himself? :lol1: . Of course Roman would bulldozer through them at a faster pace, styles make fights and Estrada and Roman utilize different styles although they share similar attributes.
Roman is a pressure fighter that utilizes combinations, power and his ability to cut off he ring to crack his opponents. Estrada is more calculated, a combination puncher himself but uses lateral movements to expose and unload insane combos on his opponents, slowly chipping away their resistance. Roman plants his feet down a lot better as well, thus giving him more leverage and power. Estrada uses more feints and is a lot more lighter on his feet, reflexes allow him to land some surprising counters and he possesses a rather wide variety of punches.
Seriously.... nothing you say changes the fact that Roman's resume at 112 is sub par at this point compared to Estrada's. The best you retaliated with was a childish," oh yeah? Well my favorite fighter is cooler!" Type of response.
Laughing at these posers talking sh*t as if they know about 112 - 3-4 guys in here know of the quality of opponent that the P4P king is facing. Inglewood Cali is going to be Buzzing the name Chocolatito!
Stop it man... Roman's flyweight run has been a well orchestrated joke that has fooled the "hardcore" fans into believing he's actually PFP #1.

There are fights there to be made for Gonzalez and absolutely no excuse not to make them. This is just ridiculous now.
I'm getting a bit restless myself. Roman needs a big fight soon. Eastcoast hinted that Roman is having weight issues, so maybe we won't get to see the Estrada rematch until they both get to 115.
I'm really itching for some boxing, gotta wait 15 more days for Frampton/Quigg.
what are you talking about? Arroyo is a decorated amateur fighter who arguably beat amnat. Prior to that he hadn't lost in years. He fought last year and eon by ko. He had another match lined up but pulled out because he was told he'd be fighting roman next. You make up stuff way too often.
I didn't make anything up. I think you are talking about his brother winning last year. I also think I am thinking about his brother losing before ruenerong. I checked and you are correct, he did win his fight before reunrong.
cottop4p#1 posted that arroyo got robbed so you might be correct.
I just told you I saw him fight two 1-3 LAST YEAR
If that impress you that much well idk what to tell you. Do you even know what you are talking about?
I never said I never saw him fight
So you watch two fights from 2014 and use that to determine Juan skill level. Why not go farther back and watch his fights withs Fuentues, Ioka, and Denver?
It’s retarded how people on NSB don’t know **** about the lower divisions. Hernandez is a solid fight, much better than what Estrada has been feeding on (Shot to **** Tyson, Segura) and the only legit fighter out of the bunch was Viloria. Who Roman took apart.
Why people insist that Gonzalez is ducking Estrada? Gonzalez is the A side pay the men, He is a three time world champion, What has Estrada done beside surviving 12 rounds against Chocolatito? Yeah he is WBO and WBA current champ but Roman can go thru his record without breaking a sweat.(Roman K.O and retires Tyson, Segura, and has already beaten Viloria and Estrada himself)..
Really what has Estrada really done? You are not hearing how he plans on unifying the division with other belt holders or going up for a second division world championship. He is sitting on the side lines hoping for a Roman rematch for a pay day. All While Roman plans to move up and beat keep beating world champions.
Are you dumb? Estrada's resume at Flyweight ****s all over Roman's. Just look at his record for ****s sakes.
Akira Yaegashi - good win and in an impressive fashion, although Akira would get obliterated in his following fight by Pedro Guevara. Do you realize that Akira dropped back down to Jr Fly and is now a champion after beating Mendoza last year? Yeah, the guy is small enough to actually compete at a world level at 30 plus years in a division lower than where Roman beat him.
Rocky Fuentes - decent journeyman but had recently lost to IBF champion, Amnat Ruenroeng. Seriously, what is this? This is a fight on par with Estrada's Mepranum win.
Valentin Leon - 28 losses at the time I believe... What, the actual... ****? Seriously, the guy had more losses than most fighters retire with overall fights in their entire career.
Edgar Sosa - a washed up veteran with nothin left in the tank. Also, a Yaegashi leftover... Sosa hadn't done a significant thing since his loss yet he was hand picked to showcase Roman's talent in his first HBO appearance. Cool.
Brian Viloria - seriously? What had he done aside from beating (and almost losing) to a bunch of journeyman after his loss to Estrada? Viloria was on the downside at that point and although it hurt me to say it since I was a big fan of Viloria, I called the stoppage when the fight was announced.
Estrada beat Segura when he was on a comeback trail actually beating live opponents. You are pretty funny because just months ago Segura's name was ringing bells for a Roman shot, I assure you that you were singing a whole different tune at the time. Segura would be a lousy fight now, especially since his one sided loss to Estrada over a year ago.
I must admit, the Tyson fight wasn't great but it was an explosive show. Tyson showed heart and desire to win, something we hadn't seen from him in years. It may not be a great win, but it sure beats the Fuentes' and Leon's on Roman's resume.
Milan Melindo, Joebert Alvarez, Asenjo and Mepranum may not be great names, but they are good challenges. Also, Sanchez Jr was an incredible victory over an opponent that had previously beaten Estrada.
Stop it man... Roman's flyweight run has been a well orchestrated joke that has fooled the "hardcore" fans into believing he's actually PFP #1.
Aldo showing his lack of boxing knowledge once again, critiquing fighters he never seen fight not because the footage is unavailable but because he's too lazy to search for it.
If you haven't seen the guy fight, how would you know how good he is?

The **** did you say to me? *slaps the hell out of your cheeks* I am an ACTUAL fighter. Ive been in the ring. I know what Im talking about, you dont. Im in the position to give my opinion.
I have sparred little guys like Chocolatito in my gym, on the daily. And have beaten all of them with ease. There os a 6 year old at my gym who looks better than Chocolatito and would prolly give him a tough fight.
Hey bro you think gg can hang with Roman for 10 rounds?

So being a future gatekeeper makes your opinion better? :bottle:
You don’t know **** about boxing and wish GGG was as good as Chocolatito. Have you ever seen GGG do a 8 punch combo? No, he is a one dimentional boxer waiting to be exposed by Canelo.

Chocofraudcito Concraplez at it again. Very nice individual, extremely overhyped. Gennady boxes way better than he does.
I hate that I didn't come up with that. Green k sent.
He has beaten Denver Cuello, Saul Juarez(whom just beat two former world champions back to back), Moises Fuentes and Jesus Silvestre. He also beat some journeyman in Tabugon and Hirales and shared the ring with a promising Ioka a few years back. He's an experienced fighter with plenty of tricks in the bag to potentially give Roman trouble. It's honestly not a bad fight.
True, true. He's asking for a purse that parallels the card's main event's pay lol. He seems rather delusional as of late. He may be well known in his country and in the hardcore boxing community but that's it. It's sad because he was fighting tougher opp when he was a lesser known fighter, now he gets put on HBO and he's fighting easier names and demanding small fortunes for the actual difficult fights. Idk man, his "good guy" act is a farce. I saw one interview of him praising Estrada talking about doing a fight with him, etc.. And then in an other he was talking about how he wants millions for the fight and how he will KO Estrada and how soundly he beat him in their first fight.
It's funny because there's a tense atmosphere when they hear each other's names in interviews. Roman deflects and says if the money is right and Estrada says he's down for whatever and whenever. Also, when asked whom gave them their toughest fights I have yet to come across a vid or article where they name each other lol. In one Estrada goes as far as claiming Milan Melindo was his toughest fight because he suffered a broken jaw in the early rounds I believe and he still outboxed and nearly KO'd a game Metodico.
Idk man, I think there's a genuine dislike for each other :lol1: . I'm rolling with Estrada doe. Crazy how Roman went from Valentin Leon to PFP #1, to wanting mills for a rematch he feels he won so clearly in the first fight. Sigh.. This is why I hate and love boxing so much.
Roman is getting around 250k per fight now which is alot of money considering what you said. I think 500k each and the fight Is possible but i'dk if hbo would put up a Mill for that. I don't think roman is as popular here in the USA as he thinks he is.
I think the rematch can sell out in a few places in LA
