I knew this kid was special when I saw him in the 04 olympics
I was wondering why is this guy fighting guys so much bigger than him.
Did my research and he did it to allow his buddy a chance to fight at 165, Andre Dirrell, they also fought much of their pro careers at or near the same weight
Once his pro career started he took on the usual suspects and then the super 6 came....he was so inexperienced at the top level and he beat all those guys clearly even near Hall of famer type guys like Froch and kessler
He hasnt had any close fights and the only thing holding him back was injuries and promotional disputes, not losses or lack of wanting to face the best
skill-wise and athleticism wise....he is the best I've seen since Mayweather in the late 2000s....very cerebral and knows all the tricks
I always felt Ward was the heir apparent once Mayweather and Pacquaio road off into the sunset.
I hope he proves me right because inside and outside the ring he is a class act and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching him and studying him over the years
Ward did not seek challenges.
The Super Six was a tournament. He has no choice but to face whoever is scheduled. But then again, he never fought outside of his comfort zone.
Instead of climbing weight a weight class, he fought a drained Dawson. Yes it was not Ward's fault that Dawson agreed to 168lbs but you cannot fault people for disregarding that win.
The difference between Ward and the great like Floyd or Pac is that that the latter fighters took more risk. I have not seen Ward took a risk in his career.
If you are insinuating he was ducking someone in the ams, just stop
Before he became a world champion in the pros...his friendship with dirrell and their motives were talked about in the public...they wanted to fight on the same olympic team and were close at time
He beat a 2x world amatuer champion light heavyweight champion on his way to the gold and didnt have much international experience considering he was just out of the 19 and under group
Froch will get in the hall, he was exciting and had a good resume in a era where his weight class was deep
a lot of people dislike him because he has the talent to upset the applecart of a fighter they like and follow
....seems to me you are bitter about something or have something against ward...maybe he would do well against a fighter you like....thats the only thing I ever saw negative about him....his inactivity or fans of another fighter talking trashI have a love-hate relationship with your threads. A lot of them show deep knowledge which is very rare on this forum. But when it comes to making an argument, you're occasionally a 14 year old child.
I clearly laid out my reasons for not liking him. If you want to debate any of those reasons, please go ahead. But don't bring this 'bitter or something against him' weak sh1t.
While I agree that winner of Ward/Kov will be P4P #1, I disagree with a lot of details in your post.
He's not a class act. Sh1tting on Goosen, fighting once in a blue moon, only fighting in Oakland (hello Barrera), the clinching and headbutts, the cherry picking of Murdoch, and in general being a nightmare to deal with.
His resume is getting overhyped with every passing month. Most people in polls do not think that Froch or Kessler are HOF resumes. They were also seen as "good, but not great" fighters when Ward fought them. Most common example is Joe Calzaghe not getting any credit for Kessler until Ward beat him. Also, before the Super 6 was organized, SMW was seen as a weak division. Because they got the top names to fight each other, everybody started thinking it's the strongest division ever.
A lot of people say that he gave MW to Dirrell during the Olympics. That could be true. But it's also indisputable that the path to LHW Olympic gold was many times easier. Unless you're Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, you wouldn't move up 5 kilos (12 lbs) in the fricking Olympics.
He would be #1 P4P, but there's definitely a lot to dislike about him.

PFP is just opinion with no way to prove it. Just because you think beating Kovalev would make Ward the best doesn't make it so for everybody else. It's only your opinion which is worth no more and no less than anybody else's opinion. Beating Kovalev only makes him better than Kovalev but not automatically better than GGG or Gonzalez PFP. Kovalev will probably knock Ward out anyway. Kovalev is a hell of a lot more super than anybody in the super six.
a lot of things are opinion...just like world ratings.....at the end of the day I knew there was something about this kid and he hasnt proven me wrong yet...the last time I saw what i see in him was when Floyd was on the rise and when Roy Jones was in his prime
If he beats the best light heavyweights IMO he is the best fighter in the world.....he has a lot of boxing knowledge and is a student of the game, has a great trainer too.....its all opinion but proof is also in the pudding....the dude hasnt lost a fight since his mustache started to grow in, in 1998

The winner of Ward/Kovalev is without a doubt the #1 fighter in the world p4p. Good post.
most versatile boxer vs most versatile puncher...both with good resumes and in their prime
Chocolatito is up there for sure but he hasnt defeated a fighter on Wards and Kovs level....Estrada is close but when they fought he hadnt done much in his career...he is getting better though
Good post. I've felt the same way since the super six. The guy just doesn't know how to lose.
people always look at the aesthetic things like speed, power, and abilty to throw a million punches
what Ward has, you cant measure and its virtually limitless.....the thirst for knowledge, how to get better, and he is a student of the game
thats what set guys like Mayweather and whitaker apart...they were just smarter and had more know how than everyone else
this guy is the truth
he'll have to lose for me to ever bet against him
