Congratulations Roy, you've had a great career. This retirement is long overdue.

If its true then enjoy retirement Roy, this guy would have given anyone hell H2H at 160-175. Great athletically gifted fighter, great boxing IQ and analyst. Never forget watching him as a teen on sky sports, time to hang them up and stay on the broadcast team roy!

Example Erik Morales before and after Zahir Raheem. 3. he fought kov at 175, this fight is rumored to be at 168, which bhop hasn't fought at sin a long time 4. It would be before the Canelo/GGG fight-no way GGG fights a live body before that fight. 5. You probably took the post too seriously? 1) True, but I think even the BHop that lost to Kov would be a big problem for GGG, and that BHop was no spring chicken either. Obviously for most fighters being 50+ would make them totally irrelevant but BHop isn't most fighters. 2) We've already discussed Morales/Raheem, so you already know that I don't think Morales was as bad off afterwards as you do. Nor do I think Kov exposed any real weakness of Hopkins, he's just a genuine quality much younger champion. 3) True dat. 4) Hey now, GGG is taking on Dominic Wade, who debatably beat 40+ year old Sam Soliman. He's taking on a big risk here. :lol1: 5) lol shrug

roy is the definition of a once in a lifetime talent none of them guys would beat jones and manny you named are ATG in their own right, hall of famers and world champions NONE the only ones i can see that could challenge Roy is the BIG BOYS and we all know who they are and thats speaks to his GREATNESS

What does Roy Jones have to do with BHops? I like how going into the Kovalev fight people were acting like BHops was the man and he was gonna expose Kov but now after that single loss he is being compared with Roy Jones. He was a unified champ going into his last fight, but now he is a bum. My how quickly things change. I don't buy this act. I'd be putting my money on Hopkins over GGG. nobody can say with confidence that ANY fighter from ANY era would fare against PRIME ROY. as good as andre ward is technically, i say he gets UD'd by Prime Roy its like imagine the best trait a fighter has and then imagine them in the ring with roy he had an advantage over damn near EVERY fighter you can imagine. imagine if folks of this generation had a ROY JONES JR at 154(which at his smallest he was at 152) and you had a PRIME mayweather, pacquiao, mosley, de la hoya, trinidad, hagler, leonard,hearns, duran, benitez, body snatcher, sugar ray robinson, hopkins, toney, mcclellan, eubanks, benn,vargas, nunn, calzaghe, etc etc there is NONE of these that would be betting favorites to beat roy jones much less make it through a 12 round fight without knockdowns or gettin' stopped. he was just a damn FREAK OF NATURE once in a CENTURY type of fighter. the ONLY fighter i can compare to him is PRIME Muhammad Ali BEFORE 1967 and the ban roy is the definition of a once in a lifetime talent none of them guys would beat jones and manny you named are ATG in their own right, hall of famers and world champions

ppl try to criticize Roy and say he fought off his Athletics well NO ****. if you had speed, power, footwork, head movement, lead right, lead LEFT HOOK and dont even have to use a JAB and could KO you at ANY moment in time if he landed flush, the fighter would have to keep his hands home bc if he tried to mount an offense he would be at risk of bein' countered and hurt he was THAT devastating. think of some of the fastest fighters at lower weights than him he was faster than damn near ALL of them except a few. faster than mayweather pacquiao bradley shane mosley etc etc you can name all the big names at lower weights and he's bigger than them and was FASTER than them AND he could KNOCK YOUR ASS OUT IF YOU GOT TOO OVERCONFIDENT AT TRYIN' TO MOUNT AN OFFENSE people look at the aesthetic things...speed, power etc...you cant measure brain power and whenever you hear him commentate or talk about strategy he is usually spot on He had god given talent and based what he did on the ring off inches, millseconds, etc because of his reflexes you have to be a complete idiot if you think he just depended on his natural athleticism anybody can learn the skills the box, its having the where with all to know when to use them little small things he did like, who throws a lead/check right....he is smart enough to know it takes less time to pull back and roll away and when from a punch instead of being a sitting duck He had every punch at his disposal...that takes skill he knew when to parry, slip, shoulder roll, block and was always in position to defend and counter with good balance...thats skill if you watch him closely, he anticpates every thing...where the opponents hand will be when he feints, the footing, what they will throw when he lands a shot how they will counter, etc. he had every tool at his expense and knew how to use them based on his natural gifts once the gifts fade you're not going to be able to do the same thing no matter how you try most people dont know **** about boxing

If true... I will be one happy man. Not because of losing a great fighter but because the man deserves rest. Jones will always go down as my favorite boxer of all time(next to Dempsey, but reason being he was a friend of the family). A give Jones all the credit for getting me in the gym and getting me to love the sport. Jones is a once and a life time fighter... It was a blessing to watch this man put on gloves. Their are so many great memories of Jones and they can't be counted on your hands. The man was a superhero,superman, unbeatable, a legend and an inspiration. His achievements will never be seen again and I'm damn lucky to have been alive to see him make history.

Who would have thought the Tarver knockout would only have been the mid-point of his career? 50% of his active years came after that. Hopefully what people will remember is how untouchable he was at his best. i still have Roy Jones beating tarver the first fight when he came back down from HEAVYWEIGHT 7-5 he lost almost 30lbs to come back down and STILL beat tarver but he shouldve retired after that if he wouldve retired after that nobody could say that he wasnt p4p top 5 EVER
