I don't know what it is about this dude that just gets on my nerves, maybe it's because he fights exactly like Mayfield and he's always smothering himself.
Do you like his style? It just seems so ineffective at this level.
yea but is thurman a clincher like brook? porter tried to get inside but got held everytime he did get inside so brook won easily by wininng the outside and preventing the inside fight from happening.
Not really, but who knows what he'll do against that relentless pressure.
Against Alexander i loved his performance but before and after that im not much a fan of his style. The guy works his ass off though, got a lot of grit and determination to win. He tries to box but his skillset is based around his ability to close distance and rough house fighting to win.
He will give any top fighter a run for their money though no doubt, cant fault a guy who works his ass off to become better.
Your gripe should be with the allowance of excessive clinching. If Brook and Broner weren't hugging him for dear life do you think those wouldn't have been good fights?
He shows some skill in how he manages to get inside, slip/get under opponents jab, double/triple his own jab, etc. And he's got quick feet which makes him difficult to time on the way in (which Brook did very well)
But once inside he smothers himself. Against Paulie he was able to create space and be effective. The Broner fight was ugly but that was not all Porter's fault because the ref allowed too much clinching.
With fighters that like to work inside it's up to the ref to enforce excessive clinching because it will make for an unwatchable fight.
Not really , Not a huge fan of him or his style he seems to have 1 mode which is come forward like bull in a china shop
But he seems to want want to take on all comers and for that he has my respect
Not really
But i will say i don't think anybody will have an easy night against him just because of his style. He is beatable but you're not going to look good in the process. A bit like Sakio Bika, not that they're alike, but in the sense you can beat them but it's never going to be spectacular. I also think he will rack up some good wins against very good opposition in his career just because of this.
I believe that game plan cost him the Brook fight, he let Brook land some decent punches and he retaliated with headbutts and a couple weak body punches.

I'll admit that Porter's style is not visually pleasing to the eye.
But...
I enjoy watching him fight, he has a huge work rate, is athletic and aggressive.
He is making the very most out of a small amount of natural talent and has a good record - only one very close loss to brook.
If he swarms Thurman for 12 rounds, he can win the fight IMO.

Not a good style, very ugly, very simple, very basic but he does go every minute of every round and always tries to make a fight of it, so I rate him for that.
His fight with Thurman will be just as ugly as any previous bout but Thurman throws good straight shots so it might make things interesting.
Still got Porter winning though.
He was good to watch vs Paulie and Alexander. But his performances against Broner was lackluster and against Brook he looked very ineffective.
This is how I feel.
When Porter boxes, I'm thinking to myself who the hell he thinks he's fooling. When he's fighting and getting stuck in, I like him.
Hell yes ! I saw him live about a year ago. I'm a big fan.
He's got kind of a Tyson style with his head movement and covers distance really well.. He also got a real good workrate that a lot of people can't keep up with. But it is true that he smothers himself on the inside.
I'm #TeamPorter all day, but I say Thurman probably KO's him inside of 6 rounds in their fight.
One of those Thurman straight rights is gonna land when Porter is rushing in and it's gonna be bad news when it does.
