What is the purpose of Floyd Mayweather purposely pretending he doesn't know Fighters

I notice he does this a lot, is this an ego thing, like he is dissing the other person, I was watching his British presser and this guy even knew who kell brook was and what hometown he is from, but I believe before he said he never knew who kell brook was. He did the same thing with Pacquiao, he claimed he never knew who Manny was until Manny attached his name to his or something like that, and his fans kept repeating it the fans who just started following boxing in 2008 when 24/7 came on. But there is proof that Floyd knew who Manny was, and even said that he loved Manny Pacquiao im a big fan of his he is the most exciting fighter right now, and he is number 2 p4p behind me. He was even at his fight jumping up and down in 2005. I know he is probably doing this to act like he is superior but its embarrassing because people can see he is pretending and lying like he has no clue, a fighter who doesn't really know a fighter doesn't keep mentioning it. He knows Rousey, he knows McGregor this dude is full of crap a paranoid observant man like that analyzes every single thing, when he goes to the casino he sees the photos he watches TV, sports ESPN. He isn't from another country where they don't follow American culture much. He lives in Las Vegas. Kell Brook fought Shawn Porter, for the IBF 147 title, at a time when Floyd Mayweather was looking to line up possible opponents. Porter beat Devon Alexander, bludgeoned Paulie Malignaggi, was thought to be too much for Kell Brook; if Porter had one that fight, close out the year with another win and he would've had the inside track on the May 2015 date (unless the Pacquiao fight would still have happened, which Porter could've been the co-feature on to set things up for September 2015). Floyd's been out of love with boxing for some time now; why is there still this assumption that he follows things diligently? He sees the guys at his gym, he goes to fight cards involving fighters with him/affiliated with him, and he spends the rest of his time traveling and enjoying the freedom to do whatever he wants. For a boxer who's barely still on top of things in boxing, why would he bother with following MMA?

To be fair all Mayweathers seem not to know to be familiar with other boxers, or atlest pronouncing their names. Just look at Roger, Floyd Sr and sometimes Jeff Mayweather.

It's his way of playing mind games. Saying I don't know you makes the opponent or potential opponent appear irrelevant. Same way he says he never watches tape on fighters, when more than likely the guy probably spends hours upon hours watching tape of fighters.

Sometimes he does it purposely and sometimes he genuinely doesn't remember. He mentioned Keith Thurman than 2 minutes later forgot Keith Thurman's name lmaooo. He even forgot Maidana and the guy fought him twice!

Sometimes he's lying, like with Pacquiao. But you have to realize, he doesn't sit down and youtube, boxrec, download videos on the trading block and follow other boxers twitter accounts like fans do, or go on a forum trolling spree engaging in e-wars with other forum members. He gets word of fighters from his people, he doesn't sought them out like we do as fans, he doesn't sit down in front of his TV/PC trying to watch any boxing he can like us. The only way we'd understand him not knowing some fighters is if we lived his lifestyle, which i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's not the sit-down-on-my-pc-chair type of life. His schedule likely looks like, and has looked like for a decade now, a whole lot different than many other fighters, trainers, and most certainly us fans who know everything, even knock downs in the amateurs about fighters who are otherwise obscure to Floyd.

He might not know them. Boxing fans expect more from the athletes and fans when it comes to what they should know. There are thousands of boxers in the sport which he won't come across depending on where he is focused. The other part is him not wanting to give exposure to the competition. He treats himself as a brand and he has said it enough times. If a fighter isn't with his promotion, he probably doesn't want them getting exposure through his name. To an extent, it is understandable; you wouldn't exactly expect Jong-Kyun Shin to talk about the latest iPhone.
