I think the idea of HBO farming out a lower level show to help build guys up for HBO is a good idea. But they should not tie it just to 1 promoter. And maybe put it on a channel people actually watch.
Yeah, some of the fights were good.
DuBoef said they were talking to Turner about possibly moving it to another network...we'll see.
It was nice to have more boxing on, but having it on TruTv never made much sense.
Well at least PBC is providing a lot more primetime shows this year to offset the Top Rank series flop :)
All promoters are. That's why you ask for half your money up front and the other half when you show up. He was the classic janky promoter. But he made sh*t happen. Sometimes he was successful, sometimes he failed.
King yes... MM, just pure seedy.
I understand probably more than you but like I said I never understood why boxing cared about it, it got taken off for a reason he couldent compete with the content that was being provided to the networks so boxing found a niche on premium and these spanish station etc.
Or do you think boxing was hated on thats why it was pushed off network tv?
MetroPCS probably not happy with the ratings as they were always around 250k.
Turner was paying around $200k per event for no tangible reason especially with that viewership.
That sucks, I was genuinely enjoying most of them. They produced some good fights and it was interesting to see their prospects develop.
We got Nonito vs Juarez, Avalos vs Valdez, we got to see Felix Verdejo develop further, Saul Rodriguez, Gilberto Ramirez, a compelling fight in Tapia vs Soro.
Oh well, I hope they find a new home soon and they continue giving us some interesting cards.

I dont get all the damn hype about network tv etc, we always had azteca, univision, telemundo, just put it on one of those channels.
That's because you live in a tiny world that doesn't understand reach, numbers, and market growth lol
Arum isn't interested in growing the sport to a wider audience so he won't invest money into it. He relies solely on licensing fees. These companies aren't promoters in the traditional sense of the word. Promoters get out there and make it happen and are creative. Murad Muhammed said these promoters don't know how to create money. I know he had some financial issues but he was creative and always found different streams of revenues. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't and he took a loss. All promoters take a loss but for some reason Arum doesn't feel he should take a loss for the greater good of the sport and to grow the sport. But Haymon gets criticized for going out and finding new capital to invest in the sport to bring in a wider audience. It might work, it might not work, but all boxing fans should be rooting for boxing to gain a wider audience.
Murad Muhammad was a piece of ****
No surprise, they were putting on weak fights on an obscure channel.
Yet that was supposed to be Top Rank's big rebuttal to PBC's venture... LOLz
Big LOLz
Ratings never broke 400k viewers. Mainly hovered around 200k.
Duboef tried the predictable "spin" lol http://www.boxingscene.com/top-ranks-friday-night-knockout-find-new-home--100506

When was this announced?
It was a stupid deal setup by HBO that only gave rights to TR, should've been more promoters involved. And HBO should be setting up boxing on TBS or TNT, not some crap channel.

Outside of Nonito the names hardly resonate.
