I think that 12 rounds of boxing is pretty much the ideal number for a championship fight regarding the fact that is is ample long enough for strategic boxing plans to play out (like wearing down the body for example) but is also short enough so that the fighters are really fighting and not simply trying to out-staminise each other.
I certainly get the point about the even number of rounds but I think that problem could be solved by invoking "The THIRTEENTH ROUND" in the occasional event that the fight is a draw after 12.
There could become, as another poster made long ago, a bit of an aura and high drama surrounding fights which had to go to the nail biting 13th round!!
I liked 15 round fights. In those days only world title fights were 15 rounds and all other fights were 10 rounds or less. There were no 12 round fights. Today almost all main event fights are 12 rounds whether a title is at stake or not. 15 rounds is a good proper distance for world title fights. Is a 15 round fight more likely to cause injury or death than a 12 round fight? I seriously doubt it. 15 rounds is a good test of a champion's heart, stamina and conditioning.
In semitic religions (christ..,jew,islam) the number 12 is important and repeated over and over again thus the number 12 became a motive of these people's cultures somehow.
Isn't it possible subconciously they thought 12 is ok and feels right? It sounds somehow familiar.
No but it will definatly reduce it
All it takes is one even round, point deduction, or knockdown to eliminate that benefit.
Are there really that many draws that this is a problem?
Why not make boxing matches 7 - 5 minute rounds
My biggest issue is why are 147 pound fighters in 24x24 rings.
Put those little guys in 18x18 rings
Obviously for running and fanboys calling it "defense" *cough cough*
15 rounds fights are when champions are made in my opinion Cutting them to 12 rounds....it was all because the weigh in use to be the same day and I think it was cut down to 12 when Ray Mancini killed a Korean guy......weighs ins 24 hours before the fight now has made rehydrating yourself a lot safer...most deaths are caused by lack of fluid in the body and brain and the same day of the fight was a considered a big factor in ring deaths.....heavyweights are less likely to have a fatality because they don't have to cut water to make weight....fact
11 seems too short for a championship fight. I'm in favor of 13. I think it would be perfect, But 13 is considered an unlucky number. Many buildings don't even have a 13th floor. They skip from 12 to 14. SO if someone dies in the 13th round or something, it could be a really big deal.
