i would love to see felix verdejo become a bad guy. i'm certain he'll beat every mexican he ever fights, which'll include canelo in about 7 years at 160 if canelo can keep with that type of longevity. don't even mention valdez or saul r - they're both resounding W's for the young mexican killer. just like the last felix from PR. that cat shut down mexico by himself for over a decade, cuh.

Theres no real equivalent. None of those guys can back it up. Ward could be worthy if he would bother to fight meaningful fights but he rather fight cab drivers and throw his career down the toilet. 49-0 and 19 years of butt hurt from the floyd haters cannot be beat. You Go watch some of Merchants hater interviews of floyd from like 98 or 99. must really rustle his jimmies waiting 15 years for that loss that never happened.

In all honesty, a lot of fight fans have been wanting Floyd to lose for quite some time (prob. first Castillo fight). So the hate for Floyd was brewing before "Money" even came along.

There doesn't have to be one. It was a convenient role for Floyd, but not necessary. It's a convenient money maker for some fighters, since it's far easier to be hated than it is to be loved. Fury is a prime example. There are always going to be a large contingent of fight fans who will never give him props, either for racial reasons or because they just can't accept him as the number one heavyweight on the planet. Why try to appeal to those bigots? Better by far to just wind people up and make them tune in in the hope that you lose.

Tyson Fury. No one likes him already and he doesn't exactly try to endear himself to the general fan. It's far easier for him to fall into the badguy role than it would be to get people to like and support him. Plus, the fact that he keeps winning is just going to wind people up. No point fighting against the tide at this point.

Adrien Broner has already staked claim to the villain role. Broner was in running until he got beat down by Maidana, now he's just silly. Kovalev could turn into a decent villain. He already has a mean streak, has killed a person in the ring and most importantly, he can fight! Kovalev could become a profitable villain with the right marketing.
