I met Lara's cousin today. He said Lara has family issues that are distracting him from boxing.
He was a boxer himself. Says of all the current Cuban pro boxers Rigo is head and shoulders above the rest in talent but agreed with me that he is not capitalizing on his ability. He said he like's Gamboa for his style but not in the same class as either Lara or Rigo.
He was spotted by government workers as apt for boxing training and then he got pulled into medical side and physio-therapy. He also got trained and practiced free-wresting in Cuba. Says he enjoys that much more. Also said that the current era of boxing there is not enough action compared to past eras.
Lara's cousin is a very good rehabilitation therapist. Worked on my smashed up knee.
imo he was f*cked either way with Alvarez
But it's crazy how they didn't give him the decision over Molina (a fighter who had no fanbase and has faded into absolute obscurity) and Vanes (someone that was never real good, got a boxing lesson from Landy, and has no fanbase)
I dunno. I thought Lara got a pretty fair shake on the cards, considering the circumstances. Sure, I thought he probably should've won, objectively speaking, but I also thought he shouldn't have counted on outpointing Canelo like that. That might've been the biggest fight Lara will ever have. He should've fought like it.
I don't remember the Vanes fight very well, so I can't comment on it. The Molina fight, however, I thought was very close. I had Lara ahead by a narrow margin. A draw wasn't a bad decision, in my opinion. It's just his style. Landy doesn't fight with urgency. To date, his best performance was against P. Will. He was really robbed in that one.
This thread isn't about Golovkin. Get off his dick already and stop immediately running to his defense when he isn't even the topic of conversation.
sorry lara is just so boring i thought i would liven up the thread. how's lara vs those pbc junior middles coming? still nothing? that's what i thought
I'll ask. He probably has an opinion on at least the Cuban trainers. He is 47 yrs old but still in great fighting shape. Says he practices lucha libre now - free style wrestling.
See if I can get some more stories about his famous cousin. Stay tuned.
Looking forward to it. Maybe also ask him what workout routine he follows to stay in such good shape at his age?
You've managed to say that the Lara's are a family of bums, that Lara is a bum and now you are saying this conversation/thread is bum.
Seems like you can't help but shine a spotlight on yourself - everyone can make up their own minds about what kind of intellectual behemoth you are on a scale of 0 to 1.
So "Rosado" red K s me and writes that Cubans are trash and bums. Haha. Wonder what happened between him and Cuban guys?
You think you could ask him who he thinks are the best Cuban trainers currently? How does he think American trainers compare?

This. I need to go smash up my knee & bs with this guy.
Nah - you really don't wanna bust up every ligament in your knee and tear the meniscus - it sucks.

lara is living it up. he's getting a million dollars to figth bums like zaveck and rodriguez. he's finally made it and has no interest in fighting anyone in his division. only ggg of course when he knows haymon will never make that fight and has never attempted to make that fight. strange how he never calls out any pbc guys in his division who he can actually fight....

hey man - we talked about the Canelo fight and his cousin agreed with me when I said that if he had pushed the action more he might have gotten a decision (all things being equal with the judging)
I agree with you both. Lara cost himself that fight. Technically, I thought he should've eked it out on the cards; but he should've known he had to take it to Canelo in the biggest fight of his life. I laughed at Landy's call for a rematch. Sorry, chum, you got your shot.

x2 on big Lara fan, but Loma is def the best pure boxer today. Lara could be if he was more agressive, imo.
Hope we see Lara back in the ring soon, in tip top shape!
Thanks for sharing Steve:boxing:
You're welcome - I will be seeing him again as my knee is badly mashed and he is a good rehabilitation therapist
sounds like a family of bums believing they are more than what they are.
what's your issue to grind numbskull? YDKS about this cousin of Lara's - real cool guy actually.
Huge Erislandy fan but it's ironic that a relative of his mentions a lack of action in modern boxing. Erislandy is one of main culprits
If he became more active each round, he'd get more decisions

Thanks for posting this. Interesting he thinks Gamboa is below Lara. Probably a biased opinion. Lol But I've always said Rigo is the most talented of all the recent Cuban defectors, a special talent. There is definitely not as much action in Cuban boxing as in the past. It's a product of the focus on amateur boxing. But that's changing, as Cuban boxers come closer to the pro game.
Big Lara fan here too.
Hope its nothing too serious the guy is arguably the best pure boxer today now that Floyd is retired.
Big Lara fan as well, but I'd put Rigo and Loma ahead of him as far pure boxing talent.
good story though
