Danny Williams over Tyson.
Williams wasn't a bum at that stage but he blew hot & cold & was an underachiever.
The tried to fix the fight for Tyson but Williams took if out of their hands
The way Williams beat Tyson was the same blueprint for most of Tyson's losses, grit down & take on the bully
Buster wasn't a bum though, he was a contender. He was coming off wins against Oliver McCall, Trevor Berbick and Mike Williams.
they call him a bum because they lost their house, betting on Tyson.
Douglass had talent and skill, he just wasnt disciplined all the time but had a lot of ability
Most of the guys mentioned in this thread aren't really bums.
Buster Douglas, Iran Barkley, Castillo, Mayorga were all good fighters who had some losses.
Baldomir and Purity might come close, but they're more like journeymen. Like Rahman.
Leon Spinks beat Ali
Danny Green beat RJJ
Stevenson got KOed by Boone
What's the definition of a bum? Boone was hardly a bum, he gave Stevenson, Ward and Kovalev good work...seems like he was more of an underachiever than bum.
I can see that most of the names mentioned in upsets over a good fighters aren't bums at all but at least 2nd tier fighters. Sure they were not elite and were underdogs at the time. However, most of them were pretty decent fighters.
Pat Lawlor beat Roberto Duran. Duran threw his shoulder out and had to quit after six. Several years later, an ancient Duran beat him by decision in the rematch.
Willy Wise outhustled Julio Cesar Chavez by decision in a huge upset. He got revenge in the rematch by second round TKO.
Of course, both were old men when they lost. Danny Williams beat Mike Tyson when Tyson's knee blew out. One example of a good(not great) fighter losing to a guy in his prime was Charles "The Hatchet" Brewer getting iced in one round from an uppercut by Lonnie "Honeybee" Beasley. Beasley wasn't a bum per se, but he didn't accomplish much before or after. He was fun to watch in the ring, though. There was never a rematch but Brewer did win a title later on.
You are the only one here that have some that fit the criteria. The other would be Ross Purity.
All the other ones mentioned here actually had titles or beat some other fighters to get a shot
Michael bentt beat Tommy morrison...rank outsider and Morrison was in his prime.
Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson ...buster Douglas was 50to1 at the bookies and was not ranked in the top 10
Max schmelling Ko'ed louis ....again was a not considered a threat to louis at all
Jose Luis Castillo, he beat Floyd Mayweather but was robbed.
You could make a argument for JLC winning their first fight.
Castillo wasn't a "bum".
Far from it.
Hasim Rahman beat Lennox Lewis
Brewster beat Wlad
Margarito beat Cotto
None of these are bums.
Garcia over Lucas
Danny is a hype ejob and paper champ, but a bum, he is not.
Jose Luis Castillo, he beat Floyd Mayweather but was robbed.
Ex champions aren't bums.
Mayorga over Forrest
McBride over Tyson
Enzo/Green over RJJ
Ex champions aren't bums.
Buster Douglas>>>>Mike Tyson probably the biggest upset in boxing history
Hasim Rahman to Lennox Lewis
Rahman caught a ****y Lennox with a hard shot, while Lennox was stupidly showboating
Leon Spinks beat Ali
Danny Green beat RJJ
Stevenson got KOed by Boone
Prescott beating Khan
These are not bums at all
