It meant boxing could return to its glory days as a main stream sport ?
One of the big issues with boxing is that it an elitist sport that fans have to pay alot of money to watch.
The main reaon for that nowdaysos that its not popular in the mainstream but the original reason that happened was becuase it couldnt make alot of money on free to air tv because there's nowhere to show ads.
So, what if there were 19 two-minute ad breaks during fights ? you could show 3 30 second ads and still see the last bit of the corner talk.
It might also make fights better.
Fighters would be less gassed and would take more risks as the round is shorter.
I know its not traditional etc but sports have to evolve to compete these days.
I'm not down with it. I think it's boring to watch and encourages poor stamina. Even someone out of shape can cruse through 2min rds w/ 2min breaks (it's what I do to get back in shape if I haven't trained in a while).
3/1 is a very nice ratio. It allows for recovery but keeps the action going.
Yeah even the super 6 was a lil flaky but still one of the best happenings in boxing for a long time. Too much division and politics in boxing, I was never a fan of Haymon but he can pull it out of the bag and set up some great tournaments/matchups in the future.
The team aspect is also a great shout, the europe vs america in TUF (UFC) was pretty successful and I could see that being a success in boxing as well.
I think it could work but my design would have to be set up with some type of point system, instead of just wins/losses columns. For example, rounds won would be 1 point each, a knockdown 3 points, and a win 10 points. Live scoring from the judges may have to be invovled so that the fighters know what they are dealing with, and the other fighters on the team would also know what they may need to do in their match to bring their team score higher to acheive overall victory. Closest thing that comes to mind is team wrestling in high school and college.
I just wonder if in team formats, fighters would train together, develop team strageties (like fighter line ups, fighters that are the anchors, etc.) and even develop a team commraderie.
I think the format needs to change. If you look at what's the most popular sports, it's team sports. Now, forming a team and staging events where it's team A vs team B, may draw some interest. Fans need a team to root for IMO, with the individual stars being the star attractions, just like in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc.
Imagine if there were a fight season with an ending like a Super Bowl? And in off season, fighters were being signed and traded to other teams? This would probably lead to a better pay system and sponsorship, and even as mainstream audience.
I know they attempted something like that with the World Series of Boxing, but the format wasn't done right.

Hmm i dunno, you might even see less action in the rounds. People would be more focused on stealing rounds due to the amount of them, so action would only end up right at the end. Plus it'd be harder to get the finish within smaller rounds and more time to recover between rounds.
Yeah Kos would be harder i guess but you kinda see most of the action at the end of rounds anyway these days, guys trying to rally in the last 20 seconds to steal round so you might see more action overall.
