Even though he was ultimately defeated, Whyte perhaps came fairly close to beating Joshua in the 2nd round. As we know Joshua is being touted as a future world champion but may have been only a few Whyte power shots away from defeat that night. Of course Joshua prevailed in the end but Whyte has recently had surgery for a genuine shoulder injury that he carried into the fight, which is perhaps proof enough that he wasn't necessarily 100% going in. Yet he still almost beat a potential future world champ?
With the world titles now separated into three parts we'll shortly see 3 heavyweight world champions existing simultaneously, up until unification fights occur at least. For upcoming contenders like Joshua and Whyte it provides them with 3 separate routes to capturing a world title so more available opportunities to become a world champion.
If Joshua does venture to the top of the division, by continuing to improve and refine his skill, will Whyte do the same but on a parallel path?
One interesting scenario is that Whyte and Joshua could become heavyweight champions at the same time and the rematch could be a classic grudge-riddled unification bout.
This guy has had less then 20 boxing fights in both professional and amateur ranks. Anthony Joshua literally has 3 times as many boxing fights as him. Whyte is still learning the game and he'll continue to grow.
I said before the fight that AJ takes him out and the only thing going for this match up was the story, although Whyte gave AJ some hard rounds earlier. But the guy isn't dedicated ,he is too soft and he throws punching like a guy who has only just stepped into a ring.
I wouldn't mind seeing Whyte v Chisora though, would be fun.
Whyte will be like Frazier as long as Joshua is around, good but will always be bested by Joshua
Except for the fact that he beat Joshua in the past...
I think that Whyte has raw potential but would need to be more disciplined. There seems to be this acceptance that HWs can be fat tubs of shyt and be perfectly in-shape. Rarely is that the case. If he knuckled down, with a great trainer, I think he may be able to hang in the top 5.
A rematch with Josh is warranted. He probably had his shoulder injured so who knows, maybe he would have stopped him in the 2nd round.
Not in the second round I don't think. But with a good shoulder he could have been better as the fight goes on.
Would be a good rematch.
Poor boxing skills, slow and fat. Plus, there are a lot of fighters that simply too good for him.
Put him in with Robert Helenius to see what he's made of.
