Because he couldn't beat Muhammad Ali in a boxing match, especially a prime Ali. It's just that simple.
In my opinion, to be the 'best' of anything concerning fighting, you have to be able to defeat EVERYBODY, no matter what their size, weight, or strength is. Imagine someone walking around on the street saying that they were the greatest fighter in the world or the baddest person in the world. You would naturally interpret them as meaning that they could beat anyone and everyone that they came across. If they were to then say that "No, I mean I'm the greatest fighter or the baddest person in the world when fighting guys that are only my same size and weight", you would :lol1:. Because that's not truly being the best fighter in the world then, is it?
Ali was a HEAVYWEIGHT. So we know he can stand toe to toe with smaller boxers as well as the big ones. Can Floyd, at his size, defeat Muhammad Ali, whether it be the 60's Ali or the 70's Ali? If not, then how can be 'better'?
I agree with OP.
Weight classes have ruined the sport of boxing, there should be no weight classes at all. So that way, we can really see who the best in the sport is.
Why you getting mad tho? By your logic what I posted is factual.
I'm not even gonna argue it's not. It's just funny seeing people post these type of examples like it does anything to refute my point when it doesn't. This paragraph by me is the absolute truth:

How anyone can find faulty logic with that is beyond me, but whatever. Because Boxingscene, I guess.
Nobody is contributing. Pretty much every post has clowned the stupidity on display.
Cut your losses and pretend it was a failed troll attempt. You might save face that way.

ali is better because he fought and won in the greatest era in heavyweight history without ducking anyone one or waiting until they where past their best.unlike mayflower jr who fake retired when things where starting to heat up in the welterweight division.ali isn't called the greatest for nothing.

Since this is a pretty ****ty thread I might as well hijack it:
If they were the same size, who do you think would win, Floyd or Ali?
I'd give Floyd a chance. He was better technically than Ali.

Muhammad Ali is better because he spent 20 years beating better fighters. You don't have to make up threads with this kind of ridiculous logic to make the case.

Because people don't always respond to the good topics... Quite the shame, really. There actually is something here worth discussing if people here actually bothered to. I have a valid point and the proof of its validity is the fact that none of the detractors have made any sort of argument against it yet except to attack me or call the thread dumb.
What?
We only have the heavyweight version of Ali from that time frame to compare with the welterweight version of Mayweather, so yes, that is the only comparison that can be made. And that version of Ali could beat any version of Mayweather that we've ever seen perform in a boxing ring, thus making him (in my eyes) the better boxer.
So Julius Long is greater then Juan Manuel Marquez??? since he is 7 feet tall?

Dude... This is just a repeat of what you said earlier using other people as examples. Where's the creativity?
His point is the logic you are using is very flawed and stupid.....

I don't know about Anyone else.
But I think Pacquiao could beat Deontay Wilder.
His boxing skills, speed are too good. He would land hard flush shots on Wilder and probably Ko him late.
Yep Manny would beat his nutt sack up that all he could land flush on
