I was watching the Joshua-Whyte fight and AJ took a couple of shots from Whyte and was OK. However in the 2nd round Whyte hit AJ with a very big punch and AJ got wobbled a bit.
I was thinking of the careers of Amir Khan and Lennox Lewis. Khan got KO'd by Breidis Prescott and Danny Garica, however he was able to take solid punches from Maidana and other punchers and stay standing. Lewis was KO'd by a single big right hand from Rahman and was counted out. He got stopped by Oliver McCall who wasn't a big puncher. Lewis got up but was on very unsteady legs and was stopped by the ref.
Do those knockout losses mean Khan and Lewis have bad chins? Or average chins?
Lewis has a decent chin for a heavyweight champion. Khan has a weak chin at the championship level. You seem to be hand picking fights and trying to make Khan's chin look as good or better than Lewis's chin. Lewis had a much better chin than Khan. Lewis is an all time great and Khan will never be close to an all time great. Lewis spent many years at the world champion level. He was in many wars with good punchers like Tyson, Vitali, and Holyfield and his chin held up. He just got caught with a perfect shot in the right place in his two KO losses and he avenged both losses. Khan was almost KOed by Maidana even though Maidana never landed a real Sunday punch on him. The ref clearly helped Khan survive by breaking the fighters when they weren't tied up. Khan gets hurt often by low level guys that aren't punchers. Prescott isn't a champion level guy. Khan never avenged his two KO defeats the way Lewis did.
The thing to bear in mind with Khan is that it's his recovery that sucks. He has taken plenty of big shots (the shots that drop him are almost always bombs) but he just takes ages to recover.
The big shots Khan was caught has been caught with would have wobbled most top level fighters. But most of the other fighters would have got their legs back in a fraction of the time.
I remember the Garcia fight, where he got floored in the third round. He got dropped and rocked moments into the 4th round. He was also all over the place in the later rounds of the Maidana fight.
The problem with Khan is when he gets hurt, he STAYS hurt.
I would say Khan has poor punch resistance, rather than a weak chin.

khan is way worse, hes been hurt multiple multiple times.
Lennox just has two KO losses, at heavy where being unprepared and coming in out of shape can get you one of those regardless of chin.
Khan has intentionally avoided punchers since his loss to Garcia like 5 years ago. Lennox never avoided punchers and had been in with many big ones and came out unscathed.
Eh, don't agree with that at all regarding Lewis. He had very good recuperative powers, otherwise he would never have survived Bruno, Briggs, Vitali or even Zeljko Mavrovic, all fights in which he was clearly hurt and forced to recoup.
Khan just has atrocious recuperative powers. I'm astounded he survived Maidana.
He barely survived Vitali, lucky the fight only went 6, he was gassing badly and hugging for dear life.
Bruno had him in trouble a couple times but it's not how good Lewis' recuperative powers were but rather how good his power was that he stopped Bruno.
That's how I see it anyway.
Khan took some solid shots throughout his career and has gotten up every time he has been down barring Prescott.
A bad or terrible chin is Seth Mitchell and guys like that.

You need to rewatch the Garcia fight.
Regarding LEwis you are right of course.
Well for a start we can dismiss the Lennox Lewis bad chin myth as pure nutbaggery.
Just like Wladimir, it is impossible to be a dominant champ in the era of the superheavyweight WITHOUT decently strong chin.
LEaving Amir Khan..
I don't think Khan's chin is very strong but it is also a far cry from "glass" too.
I mean he seemed to RECOVER from Garcia the more he got KD'd for example, and only 2 stoppage losses in 30+ fights is no indication he is packing china really.
One of the hardest chins in boxing of all time, Ross Puritty, was beaten by KO in one of his first boxing matches. And this is possibly the toughest man to ever box!
There is always a certain aura about a man who has never been KOed before. But it's OBVIOUS that every man is KOable really. I mean Mariusz Wach was stopped by Povetkin eventually. Chuvalo was stopped by Foreman. These fights were stopped to SAVE these guys from the inevitable KO.
Basically you should not deduce something from only a couple of losses on an average boxers record, even if they ended in a KO. A NEAR perfect record should be regarded more or less similarly to a perfect one because there is equal chance that the indomitable chin is just one that hasn't been cracked yet.
Both Lewis and Khan had/have lapses in defence, which is what led to their KOs. When they are switched on and see the punches coming, they can take big shots. That doesn't mean they have good chins but the real issue is that neither guy has good powers of recuperation. We saw that throughout Lewis's career where he always hung on for dear life after getting tagged.

Please don't put these in the same category.
Lewis had a very decent chin. The only shots that put him down were flush ones from very big punchers (McCall was a big puncher). He could be rocked, but considering the fact he was fighting in the heavyweight division in one of the most puncher rich eras in the sport's history, it's would be a miracle if he wasn't.
Khan gets rocked and discombobulated by any shot that he gets hit with, including jabs. Yes, he has a bad chin.
