Now ive nevr boxed competitively ive just sparred a bit for fitness etc so havent been around real top professionals but i juts wonder whether these guys actually practice what to do when they get hurt.
Seems like so many juts dont deal with it.
Now I know tyou dont have your wits about you when you are suffering what is basically head trauma but isnt that even more reason to have a plan and to practice that over and over ?
I mean theres so much you can do to buy time and not get the fight stopped or DQed.
Take a knee, run, hold, lose your mouthguard, commit a foul, complain to the ref, pretend to slip over, get a guy to parachute into the ring, etc etc.
Just seems like fighters are kinda left to their own devices to sort it out when it happens and so many just dont deal with it.
maybe get guy and spin him around til hes dizzy and then get him to try to hold or run etc or dodge punches.
Can it even be practiced ?
From what I recall Tim Lane had Chris go to the corner after pretending to hurt an opponent during training which is the opposite of what the OP is asking.
I've seen Fedor (MMA legend) spin around many times during training, I'm assuming it's to cause dizziness so that he could practice keeping composed as much as possible during that time if he were to ever get hurt.
Fighters should learn to take a knee is they're quite hurt so that they could continue a little longer and perhaps turn things around rather than get TKO'd like Whyte did.
Practice holding, Larry Rameriez former Olympic Coach of Fontana Boxing club told me what they use to do when hitting the bag was to spin your self till your very dizzy than hit the bag this teaches how to continue fighting when hurt
Used to do the same thing at my gym...except with mitts instead of the bag. That way the holder could move around a bit and test your balance.
That's a great question I wonder myself. I rather get 1, 2, or even 3 points taken away from me by holding with a death grip, lowblowing, and spitting my mouth guard out to avoid losing the fight and getting KO'd.
SUGAR RAY LENRD:We'll, as a trainer I don't teach my fighters to anticipate it, but I do teach what to do if we are in a "storm"....every warrior must have a constituency plan. cuase they have all types of fighters out there. there are glass jaws & then there are the iron chins so you must prepare for the worst & the best...
Of course. I have a method, But being the nature of boxing as competitive as it is I'll reserve from telling you...oh and it works to a charm!
sharing is caring bro! lol
Lemieux had training footage where he was spinning around to make himself dizzy to simulate the sensation of being buzzed...
at least I think that's what the video was... few months back, I forget

It's a good question. I've never asked a fighter that myself. Like you, I have only done sparring.
It might be too hard to replicate the actual feeling of a hurt fighter, from watching boxing some fighters are so hurt they can barely stay up, the brain isn't functioning properly.
