Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin, born 8 April 1982.
34-years-old in May for a potential Canelo clash, dude is past his prime.
Oscar De La Hoya was 34 when he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr
Kelly Pavlik is GGG's age, born April 1982.
Anyone see GGG staying elite at an advanced age à la Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather Jr?
Not only is he 34 now, but he is aging exponentially. His next birthday he will be 36, then 39 etc etc
Serious business
for me...... its great....... I have BIG birthday party......... 2 or 3 times in every year..... big drama to see how old each time......
Its not so easy to predict who's gonna fall off quicker than age than others. I'd guess GGG gots a solid 2-3yrs left (36-37yrs) worst case.
Retired/done at 36: Kostya Tszyu, Joe Calzaghe, Mikkel Kessler, Jermain Taylor.
Retired/done at 35: Carlos Monzon, Oscar De La Hoya, Michael Nunn (last meaningful world title fight in 98), Felix Trinidad, Pernell Whitaker (last meaningful fight in 99).
Retired/done at younger age: Marvin Hagler (33), Terry Norris (31), Steve Collins (33), Chris Eubank (32), Nigel Benn (32), Gene Fullmer (33).
What makes you say worst case? Don't you mean best case?
Lara will fight him at MW. Otherwise, MW is horrible right now. If he wants challenges he needs to go a few lbs up or down. Fighters have done this for decades. As I said though, he has no ambition. If he wants to stay at MW, fine, but he'll have no legacy because the division is thin and it's unlikely to change before he gets old (which is only a couple years away).
It's not bashing, it's just the hard reality of the situation.
R u fking kidding urself, seems u r son. Just about every answer u spew is just that. Fk off with Lara, the dude hasnt touch a mw. Hes a cat clawing at a pitbull on the other side of the fence son. He hasnt done half at his weight to what GGG has done at mw. STop it with ur bs. N no, mw isn't the worst division in boxing, GGG just make it look bad, hes just head and shoulder above the rest...Fighters go up n down cuz they outgrow their division moron...or they get kicked out of it, like GGG did to Quacken n Murray n macklin...or they move down to fight for money like hopkins vs odlh...heres a bottle:bottle::bottle::bottle:
Seems about right.
Ward and Froch don't belong to that list, though.
I agreed about Ward, hes just being an *******. I'm onto Froch ducking GGG now. He knows hes in for an asskicking if he laces up. I would've been fine when Froch would've stay shut up and just say Im retired. But now hes like a nun talking about coc ks all the time!!!
Boxers that ducked/ducking GGG
1---Felix sturm - wouldn't fight him for over 2 years when GGG was mandatory.
2---Peter quillin - said he will only fight for the may-pac kind of money, lol + he flew to Haymon to avoid GGG
3---Sergio martinez - "His promoter said that "no way I am putting him with this monster", GGG kept calling him out after his U.S. debut after every fight
4---Hassaan ndam njikam -When Hassaan was WBO champ, he was ordered to a purse bid to face Golovkin no less than two times and he was a no show each time.
5---Miguel cotto - didn't want to fight him despite being mandatory.
6---Julio cesar chavez jr - Turned down 12mil offer by TR
7---Saul alvarez - Thinks that he is fighting at the weight-class of 155, as there is no such thing as a "155 weight-class" ,he is pretending to be not in the MW division because of GGG.There are 17 divisions just pick one, if you can't make 154 then you are a MW, simple.
8---Carl froch - After calling GGG out then when GGG accepted ,he backed down and now he is retired after making all the fuss, GGG was calling him for more than a year so no excuses for "retiring".
9---Andrea Ward. The diva of the 168lb division don't want to travel or meet the a-side GGG in a catchweight so he can become a good boy and get ktfo. Was willing to goto 160 for Floyd but when GGG said 164, Ward ducked.+ he was fine when Dawson came down a whole division for him but wont move half a division for GGG, smh
10---Sebastian Sylvester - When Sylvester was IBF champ, he ducked GGG blatantly
11---Darren Barker - When Barker defeated Geale to become IBF champ, his promoter openly said that Barker will fight any1 except GGG
Seems about right.

Bit of a difference between Mayweather & Hopkins, one is a contender at 50, the other is 38.
Does Golovkin have the potential to still be one of the best MWs at 38 (4 years time), yes.
Do I think he will be? probably not, odds are against it.

If Lara can fight him, why is Lou DiBella saying network issues are likely going to prevent Jacobs from fighting Golovkin?
Loeffler told Steve Kim a week ago that Lara's people have never contacted them but they're free to do so.
So if ggg is fighting cans....then who should he fight at mw that r not cans?

Dude, hes been on HBO for like 3-4 years now. Probably like 10-12 fights. He could have done much more in that time. That is indesputible.
Really? Who could've he fought then?
He tried to get out of the contract with Universe, his promoter at the time.
Sounds familliar?
EDIT: And he didn't have Showtime and Super Six to do all the matchmaking for him, like some other fighter we know.
You guys keep talking talking **** about Golovkin and yet you don't **** about him and his pre HBO career...

He got off to a late start as a pro and he can't change that. He is fighting the best guys his weight who aren't afraid to fight him. What else can he do? Prime for a boxer is age 25 to 29 so yeah he is past prime. He is still a god damn monster in the ring and he trains hard and stays in the best possible condition. He looked razor sharp destroying fellow champion Lemieux. I think he can continue to rule and terrorize the middleweight division for a few more years. There is nothing he can do to speed up his career that he isn't already doing. That's up to the other 160 pound champions who should fight him but don't want to. Canelo should fight him in May at 160 pounds but he probably will fight another good fighter instead. Canelo vs GGG at 160 should happen next. No marinating is needed or required.

he hasn't really had a tough, hard, career full of ring wars so I'm sure he can carry on. GGG will get a big fight at some stage, likely another unification and then he'll hold all the belts at 160, others will have to fight him.
4 nobodies per year (actually, if you look at his record, it's not even close to averaging that).
That's like the fat chick that "works out every day" by walking on the treadmill for 15min. No one is impressed.
Maybe he'll take a real fight one day, something people will actually remember. Not holding my breath.
Redd Foxx with the truth bombs. Green K bruva
Any updates on Golovkin? Have his team mapped out 2016 yet? Who's he gonna face? Lara, Canelo, Jacobs, Lee, Eubank??
hopefully his 2016 consists of: (in any order)
Canelo for WBC belt
Johnson for ibf mando
Lee/saunders winner for WBO belt

Well-put. I think Sergio was FAR more ballsy and ambitious but the comparison is still relevant. Guys like these tend to age overnight. Even if they are fit looking, a lingering injury or just lack of hunger grips them and it's quickly downhill from there.
Wtf! R u talking about the Martinez that never unified the mw division, while ggg is trying to get all the major belts now. R u talking about the Martinez that doesn't want anything to do with defending against ggg when ggg was the interm champ? Bank me on it, ggg will have a better run at mw than Martinez by a long shot....n I am one who has a lot of respect for Martinez....
