I'm imagining Teddy Atlas snarling something similar to Bradley mid-break before sending him back out against Pacquioa:
"WE ARE WAD SHOOTERS! WE LEAVE NOTHING IN THE SACK. NOW GO OUT THERE AND MONEY SHOT THIS GUY!!"
. . . . It's not completely inconceivable.
oh my goodness
second this. if you're really fighting this guy, make sure you shoot your wad before you get your legs kicked into next week.

I've trained in both these forms and in a street fight Muay Thai is far superior. If you're both at a comparable level you're gonna find it very very difficult to beat this man. If he's conditioned and active its not inconceivable that his shins will break whatever part of you they hit. As a man trained in boxing you'll likely have an instinct to block with your arms. If you block a kick with your forearm you're in trouble. If you block one with you're shin (like he would) without the conditioning you're in trouble. If he lands it to your head or ribcage you're in another level of trouble.
Long range and short range you're f*cked if you just box. Stay long he'll blast the sh*t out if you with his legs, come short he'll drop an elbow on you, clutch the back of your neck, rag you off balance then knee you into a pulp.
With that said, he may well be sh*te, and I've known plenty if people in the gym who are not built physically or mentally for a real dustup. They'd fall to pieces no matter how technically good they are. Your second best bet is a fast midrange attack and look to end it quickly. Now I'm not saying you hold the advantage mid range 'cause you don't its just comparatively the weakest point of his game.
You're best bet if you have to fight him is to go tooled up, and if you're not willing to do that out if a moralist sense of conduct then you're gonna have to be the man who is willing to go the furthest. It's a street fight. You've got family and friends who want you to get home safe so all bets are off. You owe this man nothing. And I do mean nothing.
Edit. The SIG caused me to gawp in a state if major distraction so I actually didn't register the above post. You make it sound like it was going to take place in a controlled environment?

equal skills?
the guy who knows how to kick your knees so hard your ACL pops, rofl. they don't just train for technique, they train to turn the shin, elbows, and knees into a weapon and into armor. they can clinch you and hit you with knees, cut you to ribbons with elbows. they can toss you, or sweep your legs, too. it's a very well rounded standing martial art.
the one thing i will say is this: pro boxers are much better technicians and finishers. muay thai is kind of a steady race. guys just smack each other for points. short fights, few knockouts, at least from what i have seen. you take for granted how hard they're kicking each other because they get into this routine :lol1:. they even play traditional music during some of the matches in thailand. really unique sport.
but yeah, if you value the longterm health of your knees you should make friends with this guy :lol1:

I'd say Muay Thai.
Not only punches, elbow strikes, knee strikes, and leg kicks, but they are more accustomed to fighting out of a clinch which boxers don't do. Not any shade on boxing, because Boxing is still up there in the martial arts that are actually practical, but given an even standing, similar experience, etc... I'd say muay thai guy.
MT is also very rigid with respect to fighting ranges. This is because they train to fight each other and not necessarily to use these techniques against a boxers punch for example. MT guys don't need to do much but unload that roundkick on most street fighters. Its like fighting a guy with a baseball bat.
also when inside MT fighters are very rare to use those elbow and that famous neck lock+knee to the body, i was hoping to see more of this and dissapointed this thing is very rare, instead MT fightes i see always use that's high guard hand to push the opponent then deliver very powerful low kicks and this is very effective strategy. i see a lot of MT fighters win just with low kicks.
kicks all the way leave you in severe pain and unable to walk after just a few hard ones, which would then leave you standing there to get smashed
You're acting like this guy is some type of pro fighter lol. It's probably some dumb kid who's been training for 3 months.
clueless inside?? :lol1: muay thai have elbow and variation of knee strikes inside. look up in youtube no matter where in ring or street fights Muay thai is always superior vs Boxing.

When I fought against MT guy what stood out is the roundkick. One has to get used to them, dealing with them. its almost like a baseball bat being put to your leg.
People telling you to check the leg should be very wary, you can get your leg broken doing this the wrong way. What worked for me was, when a kick came in hard, to take your weight off the leg being kicked and spin with the kick. The absolute best way to deal with these kicks is the way other MT guys deal with them from a self defense perspective: go inside and through the guy. Drop him on his head by charging in and through him.
Biggest problem for you is that he has the reach because of the kick...to box him effectively you would have to get a real feel for how to work your punches when he comes in hard....they come in fast, you have a lot better odds moving in than out and treating the kick like something to be bloked low while you charge in.
The difference is, as said by some posters...MT guys dont have the hand skills, there is no subtlety at this range...you can feel when they are pulling around the neck and elbowing. A good boxer can work against this if they relax and go with the strike and turn at the last minute. But the kicks are really fast, incapacitating, and you won't have a clue when they are arriving, which is why the habit of lifting the leg as it impacts can save you.
Also, protect your groin. Boxers are real suckers, in a fight for a feint that says "yeah lets punch each other!" then when you feint, lift your hands, the boxer does likewise and bam!! kick right to the boxer's pills.
So, I would train myself to step inside as the kick comes grab it and drop the guy on his head. If you miss a few times, be prepared to lift leg as the leg is hit. when inside, work your punches and instead of resisting the clinch go with it until the last second, moving towards him and punching all the while.
I took boxing for 5 years I took martial arts for 3 and every time I sparred I would get inside and bust them up they were clueless when it came to hands. Now I just fought stand up never against Judo or Ji Jitsu. So you can't always bet against the boxer unless it's a guy that just stands there like James Toney You have to use foot work to beat them

the guy who knows something closer to street fighting so muay thai
boxing is part of most other martial arts, it's very limited by itself
a boxer can still embarrass a group of random drunk guys who havent trained in anything
but among martial artists, they rank dead last, or maybe somwhere between useless **** like kung fu and tae bo
even the muay thai boxer only have half of the boxer reach muay thai still win.
i will bet againts boxer versus any martial art artist
