There seems to be a lot of heated conversations about size disparity. Canelo wants to fight at his own weight class of 155, Golovkin wants to fight Canelo at 160, Golovkin said he was willing to fight Ward at 164, Ward was only willing to fight golovkin at 168 but now claims everyone is forcing him to move up to 175 and apparently can't make 168 easily anymore. Sergey Kovalev can only fight at 175 and can't go down in weight. But when i look at all their sizes they aren't all that far off, there are still some differences but really the advantage in size isn't as significant as i thought. however at the elite level between 4 guys who are extremely good at what they do every advantage counts. When it comes down to it (size wise) each guy does have small advantage size over the next guy (with the exception of Golovkin having shorter reach than canelo). These numbers are directly from Boxrec and i am not sure if they are 100% accurate.
Canelo age 25 height 5’9, reach 70.5 inches
Golovkin age 33 Height 5’10, reach 70 inches
Andre Ward age 31 height 6’0, reach 71 inches
Sergey Kovalev age 32 Height 6’0, reach 72.5 inches
That being said to prove their greatness (true greatness not just best in their division) each guy will need to fight their boogyman (at least as far as Canelo, Golovkin and Ward are concerned), nobody seems to be talking about kovalev moving up yet and that could be because of Stevenson.
The one thing i will say is that Canelo is a middleweight and his own personal weight class of 155 doesn't exist, he is a middle weight who can cut enough weight to be close to a JMW but not quiet there, if he wants to be a JMW he should just fight at that weight not at 155 and hold the middleweight belt (or fight for that belt), everyone should call BS on that.
People are saying Canelo weighed 175 vs Cotto? Is that the official-unofficial weight? Was it shown?
Quite funny that GGG is the lightest of the 4 fighters and the only one expected to beat the other 3.
Whether it was from outgrowing their divsions or moving up, they still fought better competion. Giving up a size is not a deciding factor when fighting better competion, but the quality of the fighter.
Both Canelo and Ward have fought better competition, becasue their chances of losing were higher, which is why they should be respected.
All GGG's fighters have been heavily sided in his favour.
I agree with that, however i would like to point out that it seems to me that GGG is being penalized because of how good he is. It isn't that GGG isn't taking on strong tough fighters in his division but because he is so good that the only time he will get credit is if he gives up size advantages and goes to fight very good bigger men.
The sad thing is if GGG goes up to super middle weight and demolishes Ward (i doubt that will happen but if it did) then he will get some credit but shortly after that the same **** will start with GGG (or any fighter in his position... just look at floyd) and people will say he isn't taking challenges if he doesn't fight Kovalev or whoever is up there one division higher.
are you serious about this? So Canelo and Ward moved up because of greatness and their desire to step up in competition or they moved up because they outgrew their divisions? aside from drained chad Dawson name one other fight where Canelo and Ward gave up a size advantage? I understand if you move up to be great where you can still fight in lower weight classes (like roy jones, mayweather, Pauqio) but i am not giving Canelo and Ward an extra Star on their resume because they started at a lower weight class and moved up because they outgrew that weight class. I will however give them a star for beating solid fighters in their respective divisions but lets not pretend that they gave up size advantages to anyone.

How long your have you been following boxing for?
Canelo started at 140, he's beaten Trout, Lara, Angulo and now Cotto all at 154. If that isn't the definition of stepping up I don't know what is.
Ward started at 160, but he stepped to 168, beat Miranada, Kessler, Abraham, Bika, Dawson and Froch all within 25 fights. Isn't that challenging. Now he's set to move into his second division to fight Kovalev.
Golovkin was busy fighting the likes of Rosado by his 25th fight, so please don't spew BS.

who did Ward step up against and who did canelo step up against? Ward and Canelo both fought fighters who were smaller then them their entire careers. Canelo has a chance to step up to fight GGG and Ward i believe is in the process of stepping up to fight Kovalev but for now they just fought and beat (or lost) to fighters in their own division or smaller.

The only ones amongst them that have truly stepped up to face challenges are Ward and Canelo, yet look how low they are on the media's P4P charts. Seems that nowadays it's not who you beat, but how you beat them instead.

1) Ward would be #1 on most pfp lists (which are stupid IMO, but whatever) if he had been fighting through the last 3 years. He'll go right to #1 once (or if) he beats anyone noteworthy.
2) Say what you will about Kovalev, but he's fought Hopkins, Pascal and is signed to fight Ward. He hasn't ducked anyone he could fight.
Ward could've made a real case for being #1 back in 2012 if he had beat the LHW champ at LHW, instead of 168lbs
He's not built like that though

Ward didn't say he weighs 180 in the ring, he was on a radio show months after the fight and said he weighed 180 at that time. Of course you probably knew that.
Every weight number I used was either from HBO or from the fighter's own mouth.
Please stop country/race/etc rooting and deal in facts.

“No disrespect to Paul Smith, but you saw how big he was tonight. He probably was 190 lbs. tonight and I was 180 lbs. I don’t think he tried to make weight and I think that was part of his strategy – to come in and try to muscle me and just land one big shot. I think he got in there and he realized that I was a little bit stronger and was hitting harder than he realized.”

So what challenges has ward stepped up to face? Should he be higher on the pfp list cuz he's agreed to fight kovalev late next year?

Ward was 176 when he fought Dawson over 3 years ago, Kovalev was 183 when he fought Mohammedi 4 months ago. Canelo and Golovkin are about the same size as each other, but Canelo seems to be more comfortable draining himself vast amounts.
Some recent in-ring weights:
Golovkin: 170 (vs Monroe) 173 (vs Rubio)
Canelo: 172 (vs Trout) 171 (vs Lara)
Ward: 180-ish (according to himself after Paul Smith fight)
Kovalev: 183 (vs Mohemmedi) 188 (vs Hopkins)
Golovkin and Canelo could not be closer in size. Both are "small middleweights". One chooses to make a modest cut to middleweight and the other makes a hard cut to "Caneloweight".
Ward and Kovalev is harder to tell. Ward's been pretty vague about his weights and Kovalev's weights seem to move around a lot. He seemed to peak in size for Hopkins then came back down a few lbs. They are anywhere from the same weight to 8 pounds apart.
Yikes, were you on the losing end of a vicious sig/AV bet?
