They both seem to think it'll sell in the mid millions... but it'd be lucky to even break a million.
What excuses will they have when it falls far short of it?
Manny/May ruined the PPV market and Vegas climate?
College sports?
They didn't have enough time to promote?
Andre Ward wasn't there to carry the card?
Thoughts?
People are crazy if you think this PPV isn't gonna sale!!!!! It's prob the biggest fight of the year and the two biggest most passionate ethnic groups fro boxing.
I don't get why people feel the need to hate on everything unless it fits there agenda
Did Floyd ruin things for future PPV's with casual fans? Yes that's been happening for yrs, but this PPV will sale
the fight doesn't do more than 600k.. Ill be surprised if it passes 500 honestly.. but good for them if they do... Oscar must be wearing fishnets again if he thinks its doing over 1.5mil..
What are the purses for this fight? Pretty sure they need the higher ticket prices. If they're not selling its because they overvalued the event.
Give oscar credit were credit is due. This fight is going to happen the day after a Latin award show also in Vegas
There's no doubt this will sell all the Latin people are already going to be in Vegas
I'd really be surprised if this fight doesn't sell well. I mean, Canelo is a rock star to Mexican fans, as Cotto is to Puerto Rican fans. Throw in the long-standing Mexico-Puerto Rican rivalry, & it seems like a can't miss fight. Did they price themselves out? ODH should be promoting the hell out of this fight!
I still think it will. Oscar just isnt a very good promoter cause this promotion sucks and he seems to be paying much more attention to Floyd
Good point cotto/canelo hasn't got a lot of promotion
Oh God, is this another fight people are hoping fails? (because oscar dissed floyd)
Obviously it isn't going to sell as much as they are quoted as predicting.
No need for excuses. The PPV model is in trouble for several reasons.
I think the fight does 750,000....is that good or bad? I don't know. It depends on how much the event costs to put on (purses, advertising, etc).
No one wants it to fail. Posters just think it might given odh's rant. There seems no logical reason for the rant this close to such a big event other than desperation.

GGG/DL/undercard was 2/1.5/.5 = 4m total
Cotto/Canelo is 10/6.5/?? = ~17-20m estimate
I can also definitely say that the advertising budget is much higher for Cotto/Canelo. There was no promotion for the GGG fight in the NYC area - everything was online. Cotto/Canelo is being featured on local channels, I saw some posters around town, and there was even a commercial in a Times Sq IMAX theatre.
Cotto also gets a share of PPV proceeds, in another thread I used data to estimate it to be about ~16% of PPV revenue.
They need to sell at least ~700k PPVs to break even.

Yeah, attacking floyd isn't how you sell a fight, especially if Floyd doesn't respond.
Ok,now room/ticket package being offered for Cotto-Canelo by Mandalay Bay.Yeah, tickets are readily available and not moving #boxing— Steve Kim (@steveucnlive) November 13, 2015
I assumed this once I saw odh's rant. I'm sure they will pick up. The American fan has so much going on this time of year.

Yeah, he's an idiot. If he wants to say outlandish things, relate it to the fight.
Boxing isnt a mainstream sport and nobody that doesn't watch boxing know who Cotto or Canelo is. With overpriced tickets what do you expect. If they made the fight in NY or Texas it would have sold out imo.
I was thinking the same thing.

That's crazy. I thought this would do really well.

FYI
Golovkin-Lemieux ticket prices: $500, $300, $200, $100 and $50
Cotto-Canelo ticket prices: $2,000, $1,750, $1,250, $650, $350 and $150

I'll make mines count but it won't fall 3x shorter then the expectations of Golovkin HBO def lost money on that one. The Latin market will carry this fight but it won't reach 1.5 I can say that.
