Broner suffers the weakness of many imitators, they copy the surface but not the substance. Simply because Broner imitated certain movements didn't mean he was anywhere near the "shoulder roll" or any of Floyd's technique. But this isn't the first glaring example of a guy that doesn't get that poor imitation doesn't get you as far as you think. Look at how he markets himself, he thinks that going to strip clubs and acting retarded in interviews makes him the heir apparent to Floyd, it doesn't, it makes him roadkill for future Maidana's...
yep...his only comp would've been Crawford but Crawford definitely was too big for the weight, his body has matured....Broner should've stayed there and made a legacy cleaning out that division
lightweight is pretty shallow and that's rare for that weight which is usually talent laden
agreed!!!!!!!!!!
I always thought AB was too squat and solid for a shoulder roll, same with Berto.
Floyd and a younger Toney made it work because they had a more natural, sleeker physique.
If that makes sense.
What set Mayweather's apart was his footwork and reflexes to boot
Toney made it look easy and he'd be right in your grill and you could hit him with a hand full of buckshot clean
Agreed. Toney was a bit quicker on his feet early on but even when he was heavy he could stand right in front of you and roll or turn with most of your shots, very subtle but still effective.
if broner stayed at 135 he would be undefeated just like GGG lol

He may need to put his pride aside and get with the money team....SR or uncle rog will have him on another level.....he is doing well with just mimicking certain aspects but if you're gonna learn something you go to someone who specializes in it
His problem is he has a reactive defense and the shoulder roll is proactive defensive technique....it is used to reserve your stamina, and also to always be in a position to make an opponent pay when they miss
Broner's problem is since he moved up past 135 he doesn't let his hands go enough and just waits for the opponent to stop throwing and reset....imagine if Floyd did that vs Maidana, Hatton, or DLH.....A TRUE SITTING DUCK

Berto's shoulder roll is laughable. To be honest though my favorite is Toney, he was able to roll damn near anything.

Agree
I tried to copy a post I made about it a while ago, basically said same thing that he freezes with the roll.
IMO he'd do better with a conventional guard in & out no messing about
Beautiful... Just look at the difference in how that was executed against the same fighter. When I see Broner or Berto doing the roll I just shake my head.

Agreed, Broner is not able to quickly switch from defense to offense, if you pressure him he can't fight going back and has to wait until the reset to get back in an offensive posture. Also IMHO he's never controlled range half as well as Mayweather unless he has the size/reach advantage which is why it became more apparent when he started fighting larger opponents.
Ding Ding....at 135 and below he looked like a shoe in p4p guy because he was a big guy for the weights with speed and devastating power

Very cool video. Thanks for sharing. I study film too. I realized the difference between the cheap knockoff and the real thing After about the fifth round of Mayweather-Maidana 1. Broner's defense isn't terrible but it is vulnerable, yes.
Said this yonks ago, broner needs to ditch the shoulder roll. He's a sitting duck with it

indeed.....senior explained this before Floyd fought Maidana
Also Broner doesn't utilize upper body movement enough for it to be as effective as it can be or head movement....he has some of it down pac as far as using it to counter certain shots and throw off parrys and blocks
Lol I noticed that too
