18 Years World Champion: Will it be broken?

Just about every record is broken at one point or another, and the way championships are handed out these days, I am sure at one point or another, someone will hold a belt longer. But that's not to take away from Floyd. Completely agree. I think it'll be possible for someone to win a 'world title' in their late teens/early 20's and jump from belt to belt for twenty years, given just how prevalent they are these days. It'll be extremely difficult, even now, but possible.

Thats great, buts its not the same as being a world champion for 18 years consecutively. 9 years is a big achievement still. Well I'm pretty sure he never said consecutively. He's still been world champion and undefeated since 1998.

There were other fighters who stayed at a championship level as long (not a bunch) though none were undefeated.

What he means is he won his title in 98 and didn't lose until his retirement in 2015. 98-2015 17 years (out of 18 years as a pro) If you leave out 2008 the year he was officially retired then it's 16. 18 years is a long time. I wanted to see him fight a bit more often than 2x a year at most towards the end. But he was consistent.

Bernard Hopkins could've done it with cherry picking, but he fought everyone. Orelnas,shumenov,jones rematch weren't cherry picks?

Floyd Mayweather has been world champion for 18 years, although not officially I believe, taking into account his previous "retirements". This is quite an achievement. He was obviously careful with how he handles his business, but will this statistic ever be surpassed? No unless he supplies them his HGH/ steroid supplier

He also retired twice. I think the Ortiz fight was his first title fight since his first retirement. Floyd is like a pathological liar sometimes. He's really only been a champion 13 years, which as you said is still impressive, but he's definitely no 18 year champion.
