Just because you weigh a certain amount on fight night does not mean you are naturally the bigger man and should therefore instinctively move up to that weight class.
Case and point; look what happened tonight.
Brandon has no business being at welterweight because of the amount of fat he carried, Tim Bradley was really the much bigger man because of all the muscle while being ripped to shreds. When you fight while being ripped and in condition/healthy, regardless of how much you weigh you really are in your true weightclass.
If Rios actually bothered to diet properly and not get so fat in the off season his true weightclass should be at SuperFeatherWeight or in the Lightweight division.
He isnt too big for the division people, hes just a fat guy masquerading as a WW or a fkin MW on fightnight.
Another example is Chris Arreola, here is a guy fighting in the heavyweight division when his bodyfat is high enough for him to be clinically obese. Yet he is a natural heavyweight? Get the f**k outta here LOL
If he dieted to a weight where he was fairly lean the guy would be a cruiserweight at best.
Canelo is slightly different, he has enough muscle mass where he could actually fight in the MW division. He wouldnt be a big MW by any means though (when comparing to someone like a Chris Eubank Jr or Martin Murray who are true big MWs).
Fat is not true size. When you grow into a weightclass it means you gain muscle, not because you're too lazy to diet down and strip the fat off.
Marquez, Guerero,Hatton,Maidana and Pacquiao are guys who fought at lighter weights most of their careers before moving up to welterweight for better paydays. None are what I would call legitimate welters.
Rios is a fatass who doesnt know how to diet nor does he have any significant muscle, a skinny fat guy.
He may have a bigger frame to begin with longer limbs and such but if you stripped off all the fat of Rios he would be a SFW or Lightweight, simple. Guy wasnt even ripped at Lightweight FFS.
If he actually weight trained and gained muscle then yea he'd naturally go up to Welterweight.
Ricky Hatton weighs 180 pounds in his normal walking weight, but unlike Rios he knows how to strip all the fat off (visible 6 pack on fight night) and has built muscle so hes a natural JMW or even WW.
Once again people, fat mass does not equate to true size. Any lardass could be a LHW/Cruiserweight/HW and actually have decent stamina but does that mean its your natural weightclass? Hell No.
To be at your best you need to burn all the fat off and be lean, fat slows you down. Strip off the fat and that is your true weight class.
What is so hard to understand?
No chance in hell Rios with his body frame is a SFW-LW. I think 140 is already pushing it. You have your guys with smaller frames like Genaro Hernandez and Diego Corrales who's best weights were 130-35. But look at their frames, they were skinny and those weight classes benefitted them. Look at Rios' back, look at his head. He's a WW who didn't do proper weight training.
More than his overall condition, which was awful, Rios has all of the footwork of a sloth. The guy is too slow and too limited for a guy like Bradley. My only concern for Bradley is that even though he beat Rios like scrambled eggs, he still got hit with some good shots. But at the end of the day Rios never had a chance....
Rios is a welterweight at the least....only his innate talents (chin-decent power) were maximized when he was fighting smaller men who would get tired punching him but couldn't hurt him. At this weight he doesn't have the size advantage that always helped him.
Tim is well conditioned and strong for his size, with a good chin and massive heart. Rios' only opportunity was to fight a shot Bradley or an overtrained one.
Did you see what that fatass looked like at lightweight? He literally could not make the weight and looked like he a skeleton wearing a skin suit while missing weight.
There is no other way you can frame that molly whooping we saw last night other than Rios came in under prepared, fat and bloated, Tim did was he does, with a focus on the soft belly of Rios, and Brandon was forced to the matt twice from body shots then quit.
A totally disgraceful performance by Rios, lets be honest.
That's the bottom line. Rios was absolutely not in anything resembling fighting shape.

I think you are right. If you could just weigh the muscle mass and not the fat then Bradley would weigh more than Rios. If Rios had trained harder and watched his diet he might have been a very good lightweight. He is just not a dedicated boxer. He made some big paydays so if he saved and invested some of that money he should be set for life. He should retire because his heart is not in boxing anymore. Green K for pointing out facts that many may not be aware of.
Bradley is smaller and shorter. Rios was visibly bigger last night, in shape or out.
Lol this.
Just because Bradley was ripped and Rios was fat doesn't mean that makes Bradley bigger.
Thank you Rios isn't a WW and never was ! People, are jumping the gun let Bradley fight a guy who's in shape again to see where he really is with Atlas this fight proved nothing the result would have been the same under Diaz
If your question is who is carrying the most fat then you would be right. Bigger is bigger. I don't even agree that he's not built for The WW division. Rios was (much like Arreola) is undisciplined so he barely made weight. He is a decent fighter but if he's not dedicated the he probably should retire.
