I think we should all come to official agreement in this thread to what should be considered a "Top Fighter" so we can properly rate the boxers among ourselves.
I use to think anyone rated in the Top Ten in a division was top fighter but I constantly see these fighters refereed too as bums.
For example I remember people constantly saying Canelo beat no top fighters until he beat Trout, but I clearly remember Ryan Rhodes being ranked #3 at Jr. Middleweight.
I see guys call Sakio Bika a top fighter but call Sam Soliman a bum even though they accomplished about the same and even traded wins against each other. The only difference being Bika was shown on American TV more.
So is a top fighter a top ten fighter, a top 5 fighter, a top ten p4p fighter, a guy shown on HBO 3+ times, or a guy that is promoted well?
Who has Wilder beaten to be considered a top fighter? He's an unproven contender with 1 top 10 win.
So yes. If Wilder beats Povetkin, it would be a win over a top fighter because Povetkin is the clear cut #1 guy in the division. But if Povetkin beats Wilder, he's basically doing what he's supposed to do as the #1 guy in line for Wlad's titles.
You have some pretty harsh standards but at least their clear cut and I can respect that.
So there's two number 1 per division if one is considered the champion then the guy ranked beneath him would be a top fighter?
So if Povetkin beat Wilder it wouldn't be considered a win over a top fighter but if Wilder beat Povetkin it would be?
Or would Wilder have to beat Wlad?

I think it depends on the person what a top fighter is. And good luck getting everyone to agree with that. Pretty sure there is a solid segment of boxing fans who think there are like 8 top fighters in boxing.
Personally I feel like anyone in the top 1% of their division (usually the top 15 or so guys) should be considered top or elite level guys.
I usual go with top ten because good luck getting anyone to agree with the top 15.
But i think a lot of people take for granted how hard it is to be ranked top 10 or even 15. I mean good promotion helps but there's a lot of other guys out there fighting for a living and for you to be considered Top 10 out of a thousand is pretty special.
A lot of people call Rios a bum but the guy was the #2 LW while campaigning there.
Wlad beat Povetkin (#1).....Baldomir is an aberration. Upsets happen in boxing. Props to him for his accomplishment.

So what you are saying is that top fighter is #1 in the division. So basically someone like Wladomir hasn't beaten a top fighter since he's been champion?
And basically most fighters only beat 1 or 2 top fighters in their entire career?
Was Carlos Baldomir a top fighter. I mean he was #1 for a brief time but was also very limited?
I'm just curious in knowing.

We all know what a top fighter is. What is the definition of "top"? highest in position, rank, or degree.. If you beat the #1 guy (highest position, rank or degree) you beat a top fighter. You can't change the definition of "top" just to improve GGG's resume.

Basically a top fighter is any guy you want to give your favorite fighter credit for beating, or your favorite fighter himself.
That's how it is on NSB.
Exactly. And a bum is a fighter that could be potentially be called a "top fighter" by others, but had the misfortune of losing to the guy you hate, thus forever rendering him as a bum, tomato can, etc. lol
Answer the question and stop your crying. You fanboys are starting to become embarrassing.
Matter a fact just leave the thread. This is a question aimed at true boxing minds.

You and your subliminal threads. Every thread you make is whining about not giving GGG credit. He needs to move up and challenge himself and he has beaten no top fighters. Get over it.
If your a fan of his just enjoy his fights and stop trying to make us all lower our expectations of what we want to see from the best fighters in the sport.

Good luck lol. I've heard about every fighter worth mentioning called a bum, over hyped, or *insert expletive here*, on these boards. Hell according to these boards, Ring, Box Rec, every sanctioning bodies rankings, every belt, and most champions are trash. I often wonder how a lot of these people even enjoy watching boxing.
