i find it funny that many posters here seem to have developed a strong dislike for a fighter they didn't even know existed before late 2014 ... a fighter fighting in divisions they don't even follow , against opponents they never heard of and never bothered looking up since these fights are never broadcasted by the major networks .
is the hate simply a push back against what they perceive as HBO hype ? are they simply annoyed that some magazine had some fighter they never heard of as their top pound for pound guy ? is it simply their ignorance of the names bellow the 122 lbs divisions and the baseless assumptions that Gonzalez is feasting on cab drivers ?
what's there to hate ? the fact that he's been the undisputed number 1 fighter in 3 divisions ? the fact that he finishes fights ? his exciting offensive style ?
True, plus he is ducking many of the good Japanese fighters and a possible huge fight with Inoue which would only require him going up like 3lbs, next to nothing.
Inuou doesnt want to fight Gonzalez yet. He wants more fights first. Which is fair.
Huge fan of Gonzales, but theres some big mistakes here. No way was Yaegashi no.1. Hes my 2nd favourite fighter begind Uchiyama and I wanted him to win so badly, but he wasnt ever no. 1 at flyweight. He was the lineal champ yes, but far behind the likes of Ruenroeng and Estrada. We need to stop equating lineal with best. The whole fault with the lineal system lies with the fact that the lineal champion may not be the no.1 fighter at the weight (Cotto, Stevenson, Jaro).
Niida was neither lineal nor clear no.1. We must remember that 105 only really sparked up when the likes of Yaegashi, Ioka and Gonzales fought there. You could have easily ranked Sithsamerchai or Condes over Niida. I think Niida's notable win there was over Takayama and it was razor thin.. It was a decent win for Roman though, but I wouldnt put as much emphasis on it as you have.
108 was barren when Roman fought there, and it still is. Donnie Nietes may move up to 112 soon to fight Roman, thatll be a good scrap.
Edit - misread 'respectively', but my point stands
Yaegashi and Niida were both good wins though however you rank them, and (in reference to my comment you quoted) much better than Cloud and Shumenov.
I think its premature to say Gonzales is the best fighter on the planet
The no.1 spot should be vacant until someone starts to stand out.
The Estrada win was good, but it wasnt at Estrada's weight class, and even then it wasnt a dominating victory in any sense.
His runs at 105/108 arent especially great. The divisions werent full of life, but there are a couple of decent wins.
His legacy lies more at flyweight imo. He needs the Amnat fight, and the Estrada fight. Thatd solidify his position as the best fighter for me. Failing that, beating Inoue at 115 would be a mean feat too.
I can because the reigning champs that Roman beat (YAegashi, Niida) were lineal and clear no.1 respectively. Shunenov and Cloud were bums who no-one had at the top of their division. Top 5 would be a HUGE stretch for those two.
I'm fully aware that Viloria wasnt fighting great comp. But at least he was sparking them out. Hopkins was winning ho hum UD's vs the likes of Karo Murat.
Viloria isnt even RG's best win and its easily comparible to Kovalevs best. Beyond that Kov has Pascal, Cleverly (tlaking of paper champs...) and a bunch of fringe contenders.

Dude weighs less than a girl
Doesn't want to rematch estrada
Has a big ego

lmao..... hopkins was coming off wins of "reigning Champs"
You can't hype roman as beating all these "reigning champs" and then just ignore that hopkins beat a reigning champ, and then unified, and then lost to kovolev..

Viloria was beating guys that were 12-7 and 10-6, the last few years...
Just name viloria's wins since 2012...
hopkins lost to dawson who was a legit p4p guy before he got wrecked by ward and stevenson
tell me again, who has beaten the hell out of hopkins... not just outpoint him but who beat the hell out of him,,, and name viloria's opponents since losing to estrada way back in 2012,, name viloria's wins that got him the title shot vs roman..... roman fighting viloria is the same as canelo defending vs mosley.. just a big name, and nothing else

Estrada isnt just a 'top guy' though. He is on a lot of peoples P4P top 10 list (not mine yet though).
I just dont get how you can discredit Viloria and then hold up Hopkins as some kind of great 'Rigo vs Donaire' level win?
Both lost a few years previously (Viloria to a much better fighter than Hopkins but ill ignore that for now) and went on to fight guys they were expected to beat for a few years before they fought Kov/Gonzalez. Both got soundly beaten.

I get what your saying,,, like i said, roman is a legit p4p guy,, i just don't think you can proclaim him #1
Thats cool mate. P4P lists are there to be argued :fing02:
his resume has 2 legit names,,, the japanese 105 champ years ago, and estrada.
35 year old viloria without a good win in over 4 years, would last about 2 rounds with kovolev or ggg...
When faced vs top guys like estrada,,, roman doesn't look as dominant...
Estrada isnt just a 'top guy' though. He is on a lot of peoples P4P top 10 list (not mine yet though).

:lol1:
It matters how you beat your opponents... Gonzalez has a deep resume AND almost always completely dominates

Tim Bradley has a decent resume but the guy is maxed out and imo on the slide. His 140 resume is very good, at Welter he has looked worse and worse over the years and currently has no argument to be in the top 5, let alone top 3 or no.1 P4P.
Kovalev is doing great, but his opponents are not as good as you seem to think. Hopkins had 'never been beat down', true. But he was also fighting complete bums for years before Kovalev got hold of him. Murat, Shumenov and Cloud are absolutely terrible. Before that he lost and had a NC with a clearly past prime Chad Dawson. Credit where its due, Hopkins was a good win, but why can I not say the same for RG's win over Viloria? He had been fighting bums for the same length of time as Hopkins had (winning by KOmostly), and had only lost an SD to Estrada since 2010. That isnt even RG's best win and its comparable to Kovalev's best.
RG's win over Estrada is better than anything Kovalev has done, and he has more depth too with wins over current (Yaegashi (lineal), Niida), former (Viloria, Sosa, Hirales) and future (Estrada, Takayama, Rodriguez Jr) champions, and a few solid contenders (Fuentes, Rosas etc).
I get what your saying,,, like i said, roman is a legit p4p guy,, i just don't think you can proclaim him #1
lmao...
yeagashi isn't good.... its like saying broner or pauli or berto were a reigning champ..
sosa and viloria--- old washed up guys.. viloria hadn't had a real win in 4 years
danny garcia beat- morales, judah, pauli... what does it matter if its way past their best days
Rodgruez jr- is basically rico ramos type win...
Estrada is a very good win obviously
"last few years:::
canelo- trout (very close fight), floyd (clear loss), lara (very close), angulo (Decent win), kirkland (well past it), cotto (he hasnt even fought him yet ffs)
bradley- manny twice (two clear losses), marquez (Very close), ruslan (very very close), rios (Hasnt fought him yet), vargas (not very good, controversial ending), chavez (draw)
floyd-ghost, canelo, maidana twice, manny, berto" (RETIRED)
and none fought guys that had 29 losses, or 11-4, 12-5, etc
why didn't you mention any of those crap fights,,,,, but your the one that belittles quillen, floyd, ggg, etc if they take a soft touch..
lmao double standard much
you fanboys crack me up.... How the fvck anyone can declare roman better than every fighter in the world..
:lol1:
It matters how you beat your opponents... Gonzalez has a deep resume AND almost always completely dominates
I would never say RG is by far and away the best in the world, the position is ready to be snapped up by Ward or Kovalev if they can fight. Thats assuming RG doesnt go on to win vs the likes Ruenroeng, Estrada or Inuou...
Dont even go there -- Pretty Boy Floyd fan right here -- Been down with TMT when most people where hating on the man in this forum and were afraid to rock his AVI -- I did.
lol...... you get my point,, there is so many belts and "champions" and they you beat a reigning champ means nothing

How the hell is Bradley considered p4p with his fraudulent wins? apparently skills is not on this guys criteria -- Timeh nearly dies in every fight.
thats like saying floyd defended vs berto and ghost,,, both former multiple time world champs...
Dont even go there -- Pretty Boy Floyd fan right here -- Been down with TMT when most people where hating on the man in this forum and were afraid to rock his AVI -- I did.
LMAO
I love when people defend roman, but don't name any fights or major wins..
What is roman's best win in the past 3 almost 4 years???????
When has kovolev, ward, rigo, manny, wlad fought guys that were 38-29, and
11-4.....
And everything you say about roman as positives,, the other guys do it better..
"look at how roman beats opponents" lmao have you ever seen how kovolev and ggg beat opponents,, its massacres over legit guys...
50 year old hopkins and pascal are guys that don't get beatdown, even in losses and kovolev beat them down... Roman has never beaten anyone down as good..
You can knock ward, yet roman hasn't fought a real opponent in the same amount of time... Ward gets crucified for his last fight, but roman gets passes on fighting nobodies..
and then fools claim he is the undisputed #1 fighter in the world
Tim bradley has a better resume...... FACT
Name romans best wins and compare to bradley's and its a no brainer...
I have been saying for the past year, that ggg and roman both look the part, and have earned p4p rankings but both need to step up in big fights to leapfrog into top #1 position
Tim Bradley has a decent resume but the guy is maxed out and imo on the slide. His 140 resume is very good, at Welter he has looked worse and worse over the years and currently has no argument to be in the top 5, let alone top 3 or no.1 P4P.

Believe it or not since 2014 Gonzalez won a world title in his third weight and defended his title against two top ten Flyweights (who were former world champions) -- that's less than two years! and thats not counting everything else he has accomplished before that -- 10 years active no vacation ; lineal champion. 2016 I will see you haters.
thats like saying floyd defended vs berto and ghost,,, both former multiple time world champs...
Lol gennady has only beaten one champ and that was lemuix lmao gtfoh. Giggi won his title in a vacant situation. Roman has beaten current champs and unified
He has beaten estrada... thats the only legit champ he beat, outside of the japanese fighter he beat for his first title years ago at 105, i can't recall the guys name...
other than that,, the "champs" he has faced are the equivalent of floyd fighting welter "champs" berto, ghost, baldomir, ortiz,.... good wins but not great wins
Im not trying to discredit roman,,, he is p4p,,,, my only complaint is people declaring him the best fighter in the world #1, when clearly that has not been proven
