I was rewatching Mayweather vs Gatti last night and during the commentary Roy Jones exclaimed that the fight resembled his own against Pazienza so I went back and watched that fight after not having seen it in years. I almost forgot how fast Roy was. Which do you think was the more dominating performance?
Or
Floyd was more dominant in his fight against gatti, although panzienza was outmatched, he managed to have more success (albeit little) against jones than gatti did against Floyd.
Jones finish though was brutual, amazing 4 5 punch combo all landing, il also agree panzienza was better than gatti, however he did start at a much lower weight than Jones, while Floyd came up to fight gatti at 140 so it kinda evens it out in terms of competition.
Good post and excellent points made regarding where each opponent was at that point in their respective careers.

Of course I do ....
but it was just to even the playing field for that lousy call earlier in the fight for deducting a point from Castillo. A Castillo who probably didn't even understand the English ref.
The ref tells a Spanish speaking Castillo to STOP, he gets a point deducted.
The ref tells an English speaking Floyd to STOP PUNCHING, Floyd punches away and SUCKER PUNCHES and no points deducted.
Thanks for reminding us all about that .......
You really think Castillo didn't know what the word Stop means? English not being your native tongue is not an excuse to break the rules. Castillo kept punching on the break and deserved the point deduction.
If you knew anything you would know he lost a point in the Castillo fight for using his elbow.

Only Floyd can get away with a ref saying STOP PUNCHING and Floyd continues and even SUCKER PUNCHES.
Floyd must be saying:
"What do I have to do to get a point deducted or DQed around here? Shoot him?" :lol1:

it was like he pretended he didn't just say stop punching. how can you call it a knockdown if you just said stop punching and the guy throws a punch that knocks his opponent down? thats special floyd treatment right there. only the rules apply to his opponent.

Jones vs pazienza
Pazienza is a better fighter then gatti ever was. gatti was a carefully calculated matchmaking. Used for his name for a ppv.
Gatti was already through wars and beat down by other fighters like oscar.
Nobody ever did that to pazienza.roy taunted him while beating him. If roy had to ever fight floyd being the same size , he would have embarrassed floyd.
Floyd was the naturally bigger fighter vs gatti.Reach height .
dumbest thing I ever heard.
I guess paul williams is naturally bigger than tyson. reach height
Mayweather had a more dominant performance. Pazienza was in there tap dancing for five and a half round. As soon as he stopped dancing, Jones was able to get rid of him. Mayweather beat Gatti from the beginning of the fight until Buddy McGirt mercifully pried the mouthpiece from his locked jaws.
Gatti was a big joke at that point. It was like beating josesito lopez bruh.
It was actually nothing like that. But maybe you weren't born when the fight happened which would explain why you're clueless.
You've GOT to be kidding me.
Gatti was a bonafide KO artist and he lost under conditions 100% ideal to him. He was the A-Side in that fight if you forgot and dominated in almost every other fight he was in after that fight. People talk about Gatti/Ward forgetting that GATTI won that trilogy.
The first knockdown IMO shifted the momentum. Had that not happened, I don't know that Floyd would have done so well and the ref wasn't helping matters.
Floyd at that level of competition was a beautiful fighter but come on, comparing Gatti to Lopez? Really?
what happened now? gatti only won 1 more fight in his career against a nobody. he was brutally ko'd by pillow punching gomez and baldomir after losing to floyd. gatti had become more "boxer like" after the ward trilogy and floyd ate that style up. same as when pac became more boxer like after being ko'd. floyd likes guys who just stand there and try to box him. guys like maidanamargarito not so much.
By then, Gatti was at his end of his career where he was having trouble coming down to make that weight. His next and last 2 fights he tried moving up to 147 but he is no 147lbs fighter.
What put a negative on that fight was that SUCKER PUNCH from Floyd in the first round. That whole sequence was just not right. Floyd first did something illegal and if I remember it correctly, the ref actually said STOP PUNCHING. The ref was too slow to get in the middle of them and appeared to not be happy with what Floyd did but it happened and the ref said nothing to Floyd after that sequence.

Paz was hype. Great movement, great look, great stance. No substance.
If you want to compare fights, let's compare Mayweather/Gatti to Jones/Toney. In THAT comparison, Roy Jones was at his absolute best and Mayweather can't compare.
This poll? Mayweather/Gatti by a wide margin simply because Gatti wasn't a joke. He got KO victories immediately after this fight. But Floyd was just that much better than him.

Pazienza had zero business being in the ring with Roy or at that weight class. I mean this guy lost to Roger Mayweather at 140, why the hell is he fighting prime Jones at 168 years later.
Gatti had no chance vs mayweather but atleast it was at his natural weight class.
A lot people forget that at 140 was about the last time mayweather had real power. Not like Jones but he was a puncher at 130-135 and at 140 he was still getting stoppages.

Both fights were equally lopsided. But Mayweather moved up in weight to fight Gatti while Roy was fighting a former 130 lb champion.
That's a good point..

I agree but your argument is which is the better win (clearly Gatti). As far as more dominant performance I'd say Jones.
