So what are some of your thoughts on this topic? My answer would be yes because Andre Ward is an American and because of that the whole world would have been watching. I believe that it would have captivated a much broader audience.
That's more than Little G who couldn't crack 100k even with the P4P #1 on his undercard. :friday:
meh... he still isn't and never be draw, below 300,000 is not good number for p4p #2 and #3
still proud of that?
A side means who brings the money. For all the crap people are throwing on GGG for only getting 150k people to pay to watch him didn't Ward only get like 200k people to watch him for free on BET?Im surprised 200k people still have BET period..
I would like to see it, but with an honest referee who stops Ward from using illegal tactics. If he deliberately head butts, he should be DQed.

and a ref who dq's fighters for hitting fighters while down...
I'm not convinced Golovkin would be the A-Side. Who has he beat? Ward's resume kills his.

No **** but there's no way they could pay for both GGG and Ward had they fought last week. If Ward was active before then, then the money might be there.
Let's just hope negotiations would go back on track and make them both accountable. Waste of time seeing these guys take tune up fights that no one is interested in seeing.
Golovkin vs Cotto/Canelo winner is not going to happen any time soon. Take it from either Canelo or Cotto. Neither the Ward vs Kovalev fight. Who are we kidding?
It would probably sell a little bit more but it would lose massive amounts of money. Ward wouldn't take that fight for less than 5 million (if at all),in my opinion...and golovkin would get more because he is the clear A-side.That's not entire accurate because Roc Nation Sports offered K2 promotions a contract for a potential bout between Ward and Golovkin during their negotiations with David Lemieux and word has it that Team Golovkin turned their offer down in less than 30 minutes. I'm pretty sure that they were preparing and willing to accept whatever Golovkin demands regardless of the potential losses that may have been incurred as a result of it but yet K2 promotions spurned their offer anyway.
Definitely yes.
Ward is not a big draw (though not as bad as people claim), but he is a much more recognizable name than Lemieux.
It also has the advantage of being a competitive fight between two of the best in boxing, rather than mismatch.
People would be excited for this fight
Fewer buys, because Ward is a very boring holding head-butting clamping clincher.
You said the same thing about Mayweather and he sold more then anyone in history
Perception is key here. If the fight is perceived to be competitive, then massive PPV numbers follow. Ward is perceived to be the only competitive fight for Golovkin, therefore it would generate more numbers. It doesn't matter whether expectations are met or not.
Make it happen.
Yes, of course it would. Ward is a much better fighter and a better known fighter than Lemieux. People talk about this fight a lot but it is never going to happen. The weight difference is too much. Ward is on his way to 175 and GGG is a smaller middleweight. Ward weighs about 15 pounds more than GGG on fight night. Also both sides would have to agree on purse split and fight location. Neither side would budge an inch and they would never come to an agreement. Ward's team overvalue Ward. He is a good fighter with a very fan unfriendly style.
I would hope Golovkin/Ward could get atleast 300-400k, but I have doubts. Ward needs to actually start fighting and not against complete scrubs who aren't even ranked contenders. SOG's been with RN since March, he should've had his 3 tuneups done already. Plain and simple, Ward doesn't want to fight anymore.
People need to forget about Kovalev vs Ward. It's not going to happen.
Ward vs Golovkin is the fight to demand. It's not too late for Ward to do something about it. Make it happen in 2016. Don't care what month.
I agree. The media is the key in making this fight any semblance of happening. Problem is Ward's inaccessibility. It's hard to reach him for any comment. Don't know why he's hiding.

Had Golovkin fought Ward on PPV do you think it would have generated more buys? | BoxingScene Community
