"He screwed me over so I screw you over"
The sport of boxing can be summarized in one diagram.

Oscar De La Hoya birthed a generation of divas and has created a monster:
Step 1
1. De La Hoya made huge A-side demands against May and Pac.
Step 2
2. Floyd makes A side demands to Khan and Canelo
3. Pac makes A-side demands to Cotto
Step 3
4. Cotto makes A-side demands to Sergio and Trout
5. Canelo creates his own weight class
6. Canelo and Cotto make A-side demands to GGG
7. Khan makes A-side demands to Brook
Step 4
8. Ward makes A-side demands to Stevenson
9. GGG makes A-side demands to Ward
10. Brook makes A-side demands to Rios
Step 5
11. Austin Trout is making A-side demands to Julian Williams (yes this is happening)
12. Stevenson makes A-side demands to Kovalev and Pascal
Once you get past Mayweather and Pacquiao, the only fights that are being made either involve Canelo or Cotto. And what's sad is fans cheering on their guy like "GO GO my guy...he's the A-side". And this is getting 10X worse. Danny Jacobs, Deontay Wilder and other fighters are catching on and making A-side demands. This sport needs regulation ASAP.
Again, I'm not mad at there being an A-side. But this situation is different. These guys have the attitude of "He screwed me over so I will screw you over". Once you get below Canelo and Cotto on the pyramid none of those guys have the right to demand ****. They aren't real A-sides and aren't willing to fight the best to become A-sides.
That is why they just make me laugh because they are only hurting themselves with that talk and those actions. That is one of the big things with boxing it is what any guy wants to make of it, they can choose wisely and be greatly rewarded or they can choose poorly and be left withering on the side of the road in boxing history.
For Bob Foster to get his shot at the LHW crown his people had to give Dick Tiger a bag full of cash. Tiger got his cash and then got slept~
It is kind of boxing tradition really. Not that it is a good thing but it is kind of reflective of the real world to get ahead dealing with some grimy underhanded **** is required, then once you over come that you get to be grimy to those below you. Sucks that human nature works that way~

No sh*t; where else would it have taken place?
Well that is the point to the A-Side, he really doesn't have to now will he negotiate with the thought process of being "FAIR TO HIS OPPONENT". It was also rumored that Pryor wanted to fight Duran and was offered $750K and wanted to fight him at 150 lbs.
The point is, A-Sides always had demands and always got what they wanted no matter what!

How you going to leave out the grandfather, Sugar Ray Leonard?
I actually don't mind proven fighters making demands. But boy did they create a monster. Nobody wants to fight unless they have an advantage
We're going to start seeing prospects making demands to gatekeepers on FS1. Errol Spence vs Robert Guerrero at 151 with 10oz gloves and a 90/10 split.
No it hasn't. Most fights were actually being made back then. You have ****ing Khan telling Brook to build himself up more and Brook telling Rios what gloves to wear. It's at an all-time worst right now. What the hell have they done to be making those demands?
In every ERA it was fights people wished would have gotten made but didn't for whatever reason.
But yes I do have a problem with this ERA and everybody in it PRETENDING to be A-Side fighters and trying to make Demands.
War Andrade!!! He's destroying Andrade at the negotiating table. Andrade sold way more PPVs than Andrade and headlined on HBO. He is clearly the A-side.

As usual a good post from PBP. I think it has a lot more to do with the people behind the fighters and the networks.
Only the networks control the product put on.
Welcome To Boxing! Sorry you wasn't born earlier to see that before Oscar it was A-Side Fighters like Ray Leonard who told Aaron Pryor he would have to move up to Welterweight to get a fight with him. Who also had a ton of demands for Hagler in order to make that fight happen.
Whoever generate the most money runs the sport, when has it not been that way?

You should put Andrade screwing Andrade over with A-side demands
