mayweather is obviously friends with berto, they have been trying to make that fight for years and berto kept loosing. For his final fight he decided to throw berto a bone. It was about him getting berto a payday and having an easy final fight. Its done with, who gives a ****. People that wanted mayweather to loose are just butt hurt they never got to see it.
Chavez Whitaker was a clear robbery and nearly every boxing expert said so. The same can not be said of Pacquiao Mayweather
Actually my beef isn't with the result it's with the participant Mayweather based on the rules broken during the drug testing it should have been changed to a NC
So he won the wbc n IBF by mistake....berto is no bum
He isn't a top ten ww anymore but far from a bum
By "bum" I mean not worthy to be anywhere around Mayweather for anything. And if you aren't even a top ten WW anymore then mores the pity, mores the pity....
This is true but they're young lions that would have offered more of a challenge than Berto, if not actually, then at least in the minds of fans. Could they have done more to put themselves out there by fighting each other? Sure, but all that means is we have no idea how they're going to respond in the ring. Berto we know about, he's a proven bum through and through....

I didn't say their wasn't better opponents at 147, I didn't like the Berto pick myself, but none of them guys Brook, Thurman or Porter have more than one win over a top ten guy
None of the guys at 147 after Pac separated themselves from the Pack yet....instead of whining they could have been fighting each other the past few years instead of gatekeepers

The Berto fight was a fight for Mayweather to complete his Showtime contract. It was a stay busy fight. Floyd beat the guy everyone wanted to see him face. Even the promotion for the fight was exhausting so I don't blame the man for taking an easy fight especially at 38 years old after facing and defeating your career rival.
Lol there's really no way you can actually interpret Berto as a stay busy fight. Like none at all. You might want to check the definition of stay busy fight.
I don't believe this is true, there were any number of opponents he could have chosen that would have been better than Berto that he could have beat. What about Brook, Thurman or Porter?

There's obviously limits. If it's a stay busy fight or coming off a loss or moving up division or facing their mandatory, of course it's reasonable to expect. I'm talking about fighters who pulled the same crap Mayweather did with Berto.

the thing people don't realize is, he is at a time when their is a changing of the guard and his era is gone.....no one has separated themselves from the pack and all of them have one signature win
Thurman beat Guerrero
Porter has Alexander
Khan has Alexander
Brook has Porter
Even Berto isn't from this era....the best welterweights are under 30 while Mayweather and Berto are closer to 40 than 30...his best days were the early part of the decade and late 2000s
none of them would have enhanced his legacy considering they don't have deep resumes
Its a lot different than when he first entered 147 and from 07-2012 the best welters were hall of famers Mosley, Cotto, and Manny....former champions Judah and Margarito
none of these guys today have done as much as those guys did...they are all upstarts....so he was kind of in at a dead end, opponent wise at 147

I remember this too! I respect your points, I just don't agree. It really bugged me that he chose Berto, because I have defended Floyd on a number of occasions over the years and I felt let down. I imagined he would have something special for his fans for his last fight, I was wrong. I can live with it, but I don't have to respect it....

20+ years, im 30 years old.... so as a fan im sure you've seen fights you didn't agree with....I have too but hey....lets not act like Mayweather vs Berto was bad as fights like ODLH VS CARPIENTIER
I watched the fights anyway because im a boxing fan...worse case scenario is not getting fights at all
Just like people who don't support PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS...I remember watching world title fights for free in the late 80's to 90's then it died in the 2000's only had FSN and Friday night fights on espn on free tv for a long time...even remember SRL trying to promote
either way...im watching whether I like the fight or not...fights are won in the ring not on forums so if its a fight, im on the edge of my seat

Why not? All fighters have taken "stay busy fights." There are only a few exceptional fighters out there. Are these guys just going to sit around and do nothing until another great fighter is available?

Been watching boxing and fans of the sport for about 30 years, and you?

And those guys shouldn't have taken easy fights. So I don't see how that excuses Floyd from doing it because "everyone else" did.

how long have you been following boxing???? It wasn't the fight I wanted to see but their have definirely been worse on the world class level
He doesn't owe his fans anything....just being real....he doesn't. He is the one taking the punches, low blows, elbows in each fight.... He owes his kids and his family for time he dedicated in this sport and took away from spending with them.B]

Floyd's choice of Berto was naked disrespect. Why would he ask his fans to pay for an easy fight for him, line his coffers simply because they like him? Sh1t, he might as well claim to be Jesus and start collecting tithes and offerings if I was dumb enough to listen to that. I see your reasoning though, because other fighters took the easy road it's okay for Floyd to screw his fans that paid records sums watching him school Manny? So he makes over 200 million for one fight but gets to act like he owes his fans nothing? Yeah right.
I don't like Floyd or any fighter enough to shell out my hard earned money for horsesh1t....

how am I being defensive by stating facts bro :bottle::bottle::bottle:
do us both a favor and name one fighter who didn't face someone below their level.....just one
sounds like a double standard...they all have faced guys below their level at some point in their careers so why act like their is only one fighter that ever did it
Remember ODLH vs Patrick Carpentier...that was bad but it happens in boxing
:laugh2:
Clearly you're not getting my point. If you knew how to read, maybe you might understand.
You're asking my to name someone who didn't fight someone below their level. Well I never said that such fighter existed. You say you are stating facts. Well I'm not denying those fighters haven't fought lesser competition.
All I said was that those fighters (you keep bringing up) deserved criticism for those fights the way Floyd deserves criticism for his fights now. Yet for some reason, when Floyd gets criticized, you make it your mission to bring up everyone else who fought bad competition like that would suddenly detract everything that was brought up against Floyd.
Go back to school. It'll help you understand better. Maybe.
no matter how you slice it every great fighter has fought a slew of fighters not on or near their level...Class A bums don't win 2 major titles in one weight class....dude has 4 losses......you'd think his record was 50-24 and having never beat a top ten contender....im sure you've never boxed a day in your life, show pros especially former titleholders more respect bro....I didn't like that he picked Berto but Berto at least has credientials
just stating facts
It must be a lot of dopes in boxing because peopLe paid to see THEM ALL FIGHT
if its a fight, people will pay to see it
