Actually to bad with the decline of boxing, MMA has taken many fans away and after Joke of The century fight- has left many people with a sour taste of mouth toward boxing
mma can take all the fans its wants, im sticking with boxing this is a good era its just that money has pretty much tarnished everything... even music

:bottle:
Spoken like a true boxing fan.
All us hardcore fans like are paper titles amirite?

Multiple Titles in todays boxing era is a joke! The federations are deluded and void of top notch competition. The titles are only to promote "more fights" who holds the titles isn't that important. Broner is obnoxious and thats the new "colorfull" because he's not an exciting fighter he's another wait..counter move...counter punch guy, boring! He has the skills to be exciting but playing it safe is the formular that Hopkins and Floyd and Wlad have contibuted and it works well when your competition is hand picked for you.
Theres about 8 fighters who are top quality talents worth watching these days. The rest like Mayweather all follow a script!

When De La Hoya won the WBO title in 1994, it was not recognized by the public or any of the other organizations as a major title. So by the time De La Hoya had won a recognized title in four divisions, he was 28.
Broner at 26 has won legit recognized world championships in four divisions. No interim titles, no "regular" titles in a division with a super champion, etc.
Broner may have his fair share of detractors, but I don't think this accomplishment should be overlooked. There's only been around a dozen four division champions in boxing history if you ignore interim titles, secondary titles, WBO titles held in the 90s, etc.
So give the guy his deserved props. Being the youngest four division world champion in history is nothing to sneeze at, not to mention even being a four division champion at all. Very few men in the history of the sport have reached the pinnacle of four different divisions.
You stupid ass....theyre all paper titles from handpicked opponents. You stupid ass.
Broner will be okay at 140... He should have never moved up so fast imo... Although hes not one of my favs its funny he moved up n fought men who were physically stronger than him who he didnt really belong in the ring with and held his own now hes a bum? Im sure its because of his mouth but you cant call this kid a bum... He needs work yes but he went up in wieght... From 135 to 147...something alot of fighters refuse to do in their own careers...
Retro Speed -
If the titles don't mean anything, why does the entire sport revolve around them?
Alex -
If it was so easy to be "gifted" titles in four divisions, why had nobody in history done it as quickly as Broner and why had only a dozen guys in history done it at all?
Jas -
So you're saying a WBO title that wasn't recognized in 1994 should retroactively make De La Hoya the youngest four division world champion? What sense does that make?
Bigg Rigg -
When you look at the list of guys Broner just joined, I don't think the hall of fame is out of the question at some point. He's only 26. Still plenty of time to accomplish more.
Chrismart -
You're missing the point. Broner won recognized world titles in four divisions. That is not up for dispute. The question is whether he was the youngest to accomplish the feat.
My argument is that De La Hoya should not be credited as the youngest because the WBO was not recognized in 1994.
Zaroku -
There were too many sanctioning bodies and double the weight divisions when De La Hoya did it. My argument is simply that Broner should be recognized as the youngest to pull it off, not De La Hoya. We shouldn't retroactively pretend that the WBO title was a recognized world championship back in 1994. It wasn't.
Dirk Diggler UK -
Yes, it was the proper WBA title that he won. Danny Garcia vacated the championship. There is no super champion in the division. Broner is the WBA's top champion in the division. He didn't win a secondary title.
Techliam -
You're wrong. Broner isn't a "regular" champion. There isn't a super champion in the division. Garcia vacated the super title. Vargas vacated the regular title. Broner is the top WBA champion in the division.
Bojangles -
But he didn't collect bull**** belts. We're not talking interim titles. We're not talking secondary titles. We're not talking IBO titles. Broner won proper titles in four divisions and is the youngest to do so.
Yes it helped that he has the best manager in boxing.
But my point is simply that De La Hoya should not be recognized as the youngest four division world champion because if the WBO belt wasn't recognized in '94, why would we rewrite history and count that win now?
If you truly want to evaluate his 4 titles in 4 divisions is, then look at it like this and then you can understand how pathetic it is. Most all if not all 4 division champs became legit hall of famers once they captured that 4th division title. Now that he has captured that 4th division title, do you think he is a hall of famer? If NO then you can understand how pathetic his title competition is.
nowhere near a hall of famer but I want call it pathetic. lets move on peace!
Look I love boxing. Best sport ever. But this era is watered down. I'll agree there are some very good fighters out there, but Broner ain't fighting them anytime soon. His title wins are straight pathetic. If you think that his title win are legit then hey believe what you want but dude was gift wrapped his titles. Pretty much every fighter that has won a title in 4 weight classes is a hall of famer. Broner is not even close to that accomplishment if his career ended today. What does that say about him being a 4 weight division champion.
well being that I have tried boxing and understand how hard it is to be good at... im not just going to throw his accomplishments under the bus and say he fought all bums. all of these guys are good at the end of the day... to be a champ at this level speaks volumes in itself IMO.. I think that at some point in a lot of these fighters career u can question something im just not into constantly bashing fighters accomplishments all the time, but I understand where u are coming from (trust me I do). ive never said that the belts are anything to brag about but he is "the youngest to win 4" that's it that's all and he has the right to hold his head high for that if he wants... otherwise broner is young and needs to shut up and get better. we will see how his career pans out. I think he should have never jumped to 147 that quick.... and his career isn't ending today so....
Yea I agree that the word bum gets thrown around to much sometimes.
You say hes an ok fighter with talent but not great. What does that say about this era of boxing or his caliber of oppenents in title fights when just an ok fighter can win 4 titles in 4 weight classes at that age? Pretty pathetic if you ask me.
I don't think this era of boxing is that bad its actually a very good one... don't get me wrong boner is a good fighter he just lacks the discipline to be great IMO, even the way he practices he has some bad habits. but if you want to look at his accomplishment as a joke that's on u
F*ck off, the only legitimate title he has is the lightweight belt. Even then he only had to beat Antonio DeMarco for it.
That Broner is a 4 weight champ shows how easy it is for a hypejob to collect bullsh*t belts.
He doesn't deserve any credit...Al Haymon deserves the credit.
Idiotic threads like this are the reason that a lot of people were pissed when they found out Broner vs. Khabib would be for a title...Both fighters were coming off a loss and Khabib hadn't fought in almost 2 years.
I forget who Broner beat to get his other titles but I know one of them was Paulie, lol...and Broner could've lost that fight. Plus, he has had other controversial wins in the past. Broner has a very wealthy advisor and has gotten lucky...no credit as a champion in 4 different weight classes is valid.

Of course
It means we can effectively look at the WBA/Haymon the same way we look at WBO/Top Rank - compromised.
Wouldn't you agree it makes it a lot more difficult celebrating Broner's achievement knowing this then?
Yes and no. I am not one that has emphasized titles in multiple divisions as a measure of greatness because I know that often 1 or more of the title wins comes against crap comp or is set up by the promoter.
In that respect, I do not celebrate.
BUT-and we've discussed this a bit before so you know where I'm going-
For all the people that do celebrate it, they should do the same with Broner as he is no different than anyone with a powerful promoter/manager-they get title fights easier.
His belts are as worthless/worth the same as any other fighters IMO.
we know certain promoters/managers get special treatment from certain sanctioning bodies.
Broner getting this title fight is no more disgraceful than Manny/Margs at 151. Once Danny vacated, you knew Haymon was going to get Broner a title fight no matter what.
Not fair, but its how the game is being played now.

The people Broner won the titles at 140 and 147 and probably 135 would not be champions back in the days of Delahoya
to bad he was born when he was born right?
That probably happened. You never know with the WBA though, that was my point. How Ward still has his title is beyond me
Benevidez should have been upgraded to WBA champion after both Vargas and Garcia vacated, yet he wasn't. This should have happened in July when both titles were vacated. Instead, Khabib seemed to rise the rankings.
Khabib gained 5 ranks out of nowhere, whereas rank 6 Herrera gained nothing from an actual win over Lundy.
Make of that what you will
