Hello
Not that I consider myself an expert but I have studied Soviet sport for a long time.Way back when I was a fledgeling college football player I came across translated Soviet sport material in the university library. It was very different and frankly more advanced than anything I had encountered up to that time. When I tried my hand at being an Olympic weightlifter I found that the more I found out the less I really knew(and that goes for the vast majority of my fellow Americans). In a nutshell the Soviets thought "Athlete first, specialist after". The Eastern Bloc in general was a mirror image of the USSR sport system, with a "tweak" here and there. Here's the thing- It was a SYSTEM!
But the same thing will happen to the athletes from these countries in virtually every sport that happened to ICE HOCKEY!As the SYSTEM degrades the whole infrastructure will collapse. Then those nations (former and present) will gradually over time cease to produce these athletes. Motivation was high in the Eastern Bloc during those days (some of it forced) and you had the best that could be produced in training, restoration, pharmacology, biomechanics etc. To be the best they needed all of that. Their raw talent was NEVER enough. The key is to learn from them ,apply what we can and discard the rest.(Bruce Lee)
yup. eastern european boxers are at the top right now. americans need to deal with it and stop being so jealous.
I agree, americas reign is over.

I wouldn't say they're taking over, I'd just say that boxing in general is more multinational than it used to be, America used to dominate it to a great extent but gradually over the years people from other countries have started dominating too, making it more balanced between different nations, if Cubans found it easier to go pro you'd see even more Cuban world champions too.
I think its great personally, we have good, talented world champion fighters from America, England, Argentina, Mexico, PR, Cuba, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and the list goes on and on, I think its great that its become a more global thing.
The greatness of Cuban boxers comes from the training and knowledge of ze Soviets. Either way, the simple answer is that poverty and adversity forges the greatest boxers.
Kid Chocolate and Kid Gavilan would like to have a word with you.
Soviet organization and training methods played a part, sure. But Cuba had a rich boxing culture long before the communist takeover.

It's already happened. Heavy, Cruiser, Light heavy, middle, 140 and then Loma.
LOL What? Khabib was never touted for big things he is B level at best..
Limited Provodnikov would walk through Broner & break him up! Postol would jab him to death too! These two EE guys aren't remotely on the level of the greats of EE who never turned pro like:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oleg_Saitov
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerzy_Kulej
Most don't even turn pro STILL! The vast majority of the elite ones never have except up until very recently.. Lomachenko, Golovkin etc
EE's dominate the bigger weights & it has had a trickle down effect even into the smaller ones now too & if you look at most of the best prospects in the sport they are coming from EE & many smaller weight fighters coming through too:
Sergiy Derevyanchenko & Khytrov are exceptional MW prospects!
Konstantin Ponomarev, Dmitry Mikhaylenko & Egidijus Kavaliauskas are also top WW & LWW prospects!
Eduard Troyanovsky is likely to win the IBF LWW belt in a couple of week too! Dennis Shafikov is very good also & may get the IBF LW title in December also ..
Loma, Postol, Prov are all worthy current midget champions too!
We can say the same about cuba.
Cuba has a 10x the talent all of Europe has
if by taking over boxing you mean "coming to america for training, sparring, bigger purses, etc.
america doesn;t really have a nationality. we're a nation of immigrants. most born in the US have only been here for a few generations at most. importing talent is what we've always done.
you don't get that "tiny little island" phenomenon, like the brits, who were inbred for several thousand years :lol1:
yea but those "inbred" Brits on a tiny island had the biggest empire ever. maybe being a nation of mongrels aint such a good idea. go to Columbia and you will see
nah, half these dudes names cant even be pronounciated
the con job of the "superior" black athlete is being exposed. and blacks and latrinos in football baseball biggest PED users imagine if the east euros were not banned here for 50 years
Somebody has to target those markets. Uzbekistan is full of power punchers with technique. So hopefully we start seeing more fighters from these countries turn pro. We'll have even more different types of styles in professional boxing, which is only going to help not hurt.
Medzhidov had an eye injury if I'm not mistaken. He would have been a good pro. I doubt we ever see him in professional boxing unfortunately.
He has crazy power. He would beat the hell out most of the HWs.

Dychko is a good Hw by the way.
I would love to see more pro boxers from Uzbekistan,Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.K2 promotions can promote them well.Btw why Medzhidov did not participate World Championship?I would love to see him as a Pro as well :boxing:.

your reasoning is all backwards mate. it's not a coincidence that the divisions that receive the most attention in america happen to be the ones with the most american fighters
bingo
....
Yeah they are. Conlan just won World's. O'Reilly bronze medal and Joe Ward will compete in the finals tomorrow.
Their Youth look promising as well.
Cuba, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ireland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan are the leading nations currently in my opinion. (In no particular order)
