I'm just as shocked as anyone who picked Lucas to stomp out Postol....I know Lucas never OFFICIALLY won a world title but I do think he should've been IBF champ when he trucked Lamont.....so due to POLITICAL reasons, he never OFFICIALLY been strapped up....after tonight, I don't see him causing Pac any problems...he gets beat up by that ATG....he could fight Crawford or move to 147 and fight the Rios-Bradley winner :dunno:
Where does The Machine go from here?
He needs to take a long break now cuz he's been in a lot of wars recently and took a lot of punishment, he should just take a rest try to recover and I think the best trainer for him would be Robert Garcia, he can improve on the things that Lucas desperatley needs now like a better jab and more use of the jab, jabs to the body, body attack in general, feints and head movement, Lucas was just trying to lunge in so much without much head movement and without going in behind punches, and I think the best guy for that job is Robert Garcia, I don't think this is Freddie's style, Freddie likes fighters that move and use angles and explode with combinations and get in and out or side to side, can't teach a 33 year old that stuff, style mismatch.
John David Jackson would do well with him too, but no matter who the trainer is a move to 147 shouldn't even be considered cuz once those big guys try to put it on Lucas, once he feels like his punches don't have much effect on his opponents like they used to at 140, he's gonna break down mentally cuz that's his style, he's a pressure fighter, he should definitley stay at 140.
**** I don't know, I've been a big fan of his since the Zab fight but, now he is shop worn and might no longer be the machine ! He is a good boxer with a knock out punch, so he is still a draw on the networks, hopefully broner thinks he could be him. Make that fight happen next or why not a Garcia rematch better than the **** fights he's been in lately.
I dont thinkhe has much left tbh. Mentally he does t seem to be ready to fight his style anymore.
Honestly i dont think he has looked as good since left Martinez' trainer. Even though he got robbed twice with him i think that was the best version of Lucas, hard hitting and intelligent. Since then i think he has become mkre basic in how he goes about his boxing (inc. The peterson fight).
Its been a rollercoaster being a Matthysse fan thats for sure!
Lucas has a better than 50/50 chance against any 140 guy who allows him to fight at mid-range
he's never gonna beat guys who are taller and jab the **** out of him
he isn't elite, nobody ever said he was
the outcome of this fight doesn't really change anything about him fighting pacquiao, pacquiao has shorter arms than he does and also gives way more offensive openings to his opponent
also, for the amount of difficulty Lucas had in landing on Postol, he still landed at a much higher clip so give him credit where it's due, he did what he could against a very technically sound bigger guy
fights I'd like to see Lucas in at 140
Marquez, Broner, Herrera off the top of my head
