#48 is a real coward for picking on Rios who has mental problems and was coming off a loss to Alvarado. He's also a pathetic chump for fighting Algieri, a personal trainer who lives in his parents' basement.
Nobody complains about those fights but they complain about Floyd fighting Berto. Berto is better than both of those guys combined so why are people hating on this fight? Do you think it has anything to do with people being bitter towards Floyd because he humiliated and dominated #48? Discuss
Explain how Berto is a cherrypick. Nobody at 147 has done anything to stand out. All the top guys avoid each other because they don't wanna earn anything, so Floyd had a right to pick who he wanted. Nobody at 147 has made a convincing case for themselves to be considered as a real threat.
Simple. There are much better, more accomplished, and deserving fighters. Even if you didn't think the best candidate out there did enough and meet a "certain threshhold", that doesn't suddenly mean you can pick a guy who's miles worse than the best candidates out there.
And if you do pick a guy who's much worse than the best available, well that's the exact definition of what cherry picking is about.
If you can't see that there are better, more deserving and accomplished fighters, I can't help you.
Why call Pacquiao #48? Is his whole career defined by the one fight against Floyd? Also he was coming off a loss when he fought Rios. It was a bounce back that anyone would have if they lost a fight. Algeiri was a bad fight but at least he was undefeated and held a strap at the time. Pac was supposed to fight Ruslan but Algeiri ruined those plans.
I agree. This whole "#48" nonsense is absurd. Boxing isn't defined by Floyd's record. It's hard to take a Floyd fan seriously these days. (For the record I am not a Manny fan. I'm a boxing fan)
Both beat floyd, that is non debatable. Algieri is a better ALL AROUND boxer than floyd (offensively speaking) with better stamina and Rios would seriously hurt floyd which he couldnt do to Manny. There's a reason why floyd avoided them. So whatever point you tried to make is invalid.

Rios was a tuneup fight, which lots of fighters take after losses or coming off long layoffs (Cotto got Delvin Rodriguez, DLH got Forbes after Floyd loss, Floyd took 135 Marquez after 2 years off, etc). He got KOed unconscious the year before and there were doubts he'd get licensed in Vegas.
Algieri wasn't an elite fighter but he was the 140 champ and had the right to challenge for the 147 title. There' weren't too many guys available to fight him. Marquez said he didn't want a 5th fight, he just beat Bradley, Crawford wasn't going to be fed to Pacquiao (who was at 135 at the time), Provodnikov lost, Mayweather fight wasn't available and the best guys were in Haymon's stable.
No one is claiming he fought a great fighter in Rios or Algieri. Berto is a cherry pick because there's no circumstances where Floyd should be fighting Berto. The other guys were more based on circumstance.

He was coming off a loss when he fought Rios, and usually guys take a softer choice when they are coming off a loss.
The Algeri fight was totally criticized, and it bombed. To act like anyone other than Algeri's family was excited about that fight is stupid. That fight was dogged on the whole time. HBO couldn't even muster more than one episode of 24/7 for it.
Neither fight should have been a PPV fight. I can accept the occasional soft touch, but to ask people to put down 60 + bucks for a fight like that is insulting.
I didn't buy either of those fights, and I won't be buying the fight this weekend.

Haymon's stable is deeeeeeep with 140-154 fighters. He fought the guy who's like 11th on the depth chart of all available fighters. He could have asked for Garcia, Peterson, Khan, Thurman, Broner, Spence, Brook, etc.
