I'm curious as to who you guys think are the top p4p fighters on the planet, I'm extending my list to 20 fighters so that some lesser known names get a shout out. I don't really agree with any of the lists I see posted by magazines and sites so I'm curious to see how you all will rank the world's leading pugilists.
Also, keep in mind what the criteria is, something that has been lost over the years. It's not simply about being the best or one of the best in your division and championships won and resumes but more importantly, who, if weight was not an issue, would beat all the other fighters out there, thus the P4P label.
Here's mine:
1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Wladimir Klitschko
3. Sergey Kovalev
4. Gennady Golovkin
5. Manny Pacquiao
6. Timothy Bradley
7. Roman Gonzalez
8. Guillermo Rigondeaux
9. Terence Crawford
10. Saul Alvarez
11. Nicholas Walters
12. Adonis Stevenson
13. Danny Garcia
14. Takashi Uchiyama
15. Miguel Cotto
16. Vasyl Lomachenko
17. Shinsuke Yamanaka
18. Juan Francisco Estrada
19. Lucas Matthysse
20. Carl Frampton
In his defense, you rank R. Gonzalez pretty high with the rest of the sheeps that are just following Ring and other P4P lists.
Paul Smith is bad, but surely you don't find the pathetic resume of journeymen from 2013 to 2015 of Ronald Barrera, Francisco Rodriguez Jr, Oscar Blanquet, Juan Kantun, Juan Purisima, Akira Yaegashi, Rocky Fuentes, Velntin Leon, and Edgar Sosa impressive do you? Enough to catapult Gonzalez from not ranked in the top 10 at all in 2013 to being ranked #2 in 2015 after that garbage resume?
I don't rank Gonzalez has p4p no. 2 or even close to it but there is no denying he is a top 10 fighter and that resume you listed, cmon man, if you think guys like Yaegashi are journeymen then you should be done with boxing. It'd be fair to say that he was possibly too small for Roman but a journeyman? :Flush:
1. Shannon Briggs
2. Ricardo Mayorga
3. that Russian who beat Huck
4. Roy Jones Jr.
5. Anthony Dirrell
6. Tommy Karpency
7. the little dude who punches fast
8. that young Mexican, forgot his name
9. Andre Dirrell
10. the Samoan guy with huge muscles
Truly great names...truly great
1. Mayweather
2. Rigo
3. Wlad
4. Kovalev
5. Pacquiao
6. Crawford
7. GGG
8. Gonzalez
9. Uchiyama
10. Walters
I wrestled with the idea of Uchiyama being in my top 10, at one stage I rated him as a possible top 10 kind of guy but he just hasn't had the step up in class over the last 2-3 years that I was hoping for. Now that he's 30 odd, I just don't know where he is heading with his career.
Mine is...
Fuk P4P list. WTF does it matter? With all the stationing bodies and grimy ass promoters its impossible to have a true P4P list anyways. Best dont fight the best. Cherry picking bullshlt fights that are lopsided as all fuk! Man fuk P4P!
lol
Well, I posted a thread some time ago about how stupid p4p lists are...when done by magazines and tv channels but I wanted to have a look at what guys on here thought about the top 10 or 20 guys in boxing and in all honesty, most of the same names appear on almost every list. The order differs but it's pretty clear that we don't need sanctioning bodies telling us what we already know.
Plus, you can't paint every fighter with the same brush, Froch didn't duck anyone, Kovalev has had a string of top level opponents, Wlad has all but cleared out the division and guys like Frampton, Quigg, Gonzalez, GGG and a few others are starting to look for the best available opponents.
I'm not sure Ward beating DeGale is an absolute certainty given Andre's level of opposition and activity over the last few years. No clue why that fight isn't being pursued tbh. Two gold medalists, US vs UK, DeGale with just the one disputed loss early in his career.
Seems like everyone has GGG in the top 10s now, put Wilder in there too while your at it. Some people even have GGG above Crawford, so sad.
Crawford's best win is against a featherweight, who rocked him by the way.
1. Shannon Briggs
2. Ricardo Mayorga
3. that Russian who beat Huck
4. Roy Jones Jr.
5. Anthony Dirrell
6. Tommy Karpency
7. the little dude who punches fast
8. that young Mexican, forgot his name
9. Andre Dirrell
10. the Samoan guy with huge muscles
Beating Paul Smith Jr definitely gets you ranked this highly.
In his defense, you rank R. Gonzalez pretty high with the rest of the sheeps that are just following Ring and other P4P lists.

Based on your own criteria, explain Lara to me.
Most lists have included about the 7 or 8 same names (Floyd, Pac, Kov, GGG, Wlad, Roman etc), so there is some definite consistency. Then there are names like Cotto, Alvarez, Bradley that get added in.
I'm curious, why Thurman?
I understand what you're saying here but we can't be entirely hypothetical, yes Ward is skilled and in 2012, he showed us why he was p4p but now, 3 years late, what has he really shown us? That he goes many rounds with Paul Smith? Is that enough of a gauge to say that he'd be brilliant and beat other guys, especially someone like Kovalev who is his natural rival. Would he even look good against DeGale in 2015?
Ward would be degale
1. Mayweather
2. Gonzalez
3. Klitschko
4. Kovalev
5. Ward
6. Golovkin
7. Lomachenko
8. Rigondeaux
9. Pacquiao
10. Lara
Worth noting that when I usually make these lists I base it on what can you do for me TODAY, not based exclusively on past achievements (although they help grading, of course). So guys like Cotto who have fantastic resumes and are legend don't automatically get a pass, because for whatever reason I don't see them being dominant as of right in this very moment.
Based on your own criteria, explain Lara to me.
Interesting I think many lists are gonna differ big time
Floyd Mayweather
Wladimir Klitschko
Roman Gonzalez
Sergey Kovalev
Saul Canelo Alvarez
Gennady Golovkin
Manny Pacquiao
Terence Crawford
Keith Thurman
Erislandy Lara
There, not that bad of a list If I do say so myself.

I go by who would be the odds on favorite on a fight and how skilled a guy is.. Ward is proven world class guy.. Just because he has been inactive doesn't mean he isn't any lesser of a fighter.. Before froch retired he was on some lists, and no way he would have been favored over Ward in a rematch.
But I can see why some people would drop him in rankings due to activity

Yeah, if he gets at least 2 of those wins...forget Gamboa, he needs 3 or 4 come back fights to be considered top level again. So a win over Rigo/Walters and Frampton/Quigg/LSC then yeah, I'd have him top 10 and I can see why some would have him top 5, especially if he wins well.
Based on skill/talent, I wouldn't have him top 10 in all honesty, he got out muscled by Salido and had to beat a guy like Russell for the title. He has a lot of work to do on his pro style.
Almost every fighter has struggled with a style similar to Salido. Even Floyd struggled with JLC. Salido used dirty tactics unlike JLC. You haters act like Salido completely beat him up, it was a close fight. Loma out-landed him by over 20 punches.
Also, if he were to beat all of those guys, he's definitely top 5 wtf do you mean maybe he's top 5.
I do agree that he has a lot of work to do in the pros, but isn't that the case with every fighter? I don't like when other Loma fans go crazy and start talking crap, but haters also talk complete nonsense at times.
Make a perma-ban bet with me in a Lomachenko fight.
