who has actually seen more than 5 fights of his??
everybody calling him top p4p haha.
dont get me wrong, im not disagreeing.
but who here actually follows the division and seen roman gonzalez fight more than 5 times? :boxing:
He has so many fights on youtube. It allowed me to see a good chunk of his bouts after talking to my boy Aztekkka. Too bad most of them aren't in English lol.
Is this guy reliable?
I assume he means on someobe elses PPV right? No way two 112lbers are headlining a PPV
If Golovkin and Gonzalez continue to win, they will probably continue to do some cards together.
Yeah he has stayed more active than Ward.
But none of those guys are a big win.. Yaegashi maybe, but it's like floyd beating ghost, not a win that one can proclaim to be p4p.. All of Romans best wins came pre 2013.
Fair enough, we are kind of going round in circles now prob best to agree to disagree.
Good to have an NSB chat with no flaming or insults breh :fing02:
Edit: unlike some bottom feeder 'showtime' who just red k'd me for one of my responses :lol1: notice he went straight to red K'ing instead of replying
agreed.
but it can be said the other way.
pp dont fololw the division, theyll just say hes great because everybody else says hes great ;)
Well that could be said for any division, could it not?
The truth is that people only follow 140-154, because their heroes are there and they want to make those divisions sound amazing. Any division dominated by fighters they don't know or don't like is considered weak.
Take Cruiser for example, people have said this division s*cks for years. Now that PBC has shown two fights they feel a little different. They'll probably still say it sucks though, even though Cruiserweight is one of the best divisions.
Super Featherweight is another division with good depth, but people consider it weak.
It's not the fighters fault someone doesn't want to follow a division, so it's better to stay quiet if you're not informed about the division then to say nonsense.
By the way this wasn't directed to you, it was just a general idea.
Also, going by the logic of some fans then every boxer is overrated.
He has Yaegashi (2 weight champion), Fransisco Rodriguez Jr (future champ), Rocky Fuentes (top 10) and Edgar Sosa (top 10) since he fought Estrada.
Ward has Paul Smith. Not the same situation.

if he beats mares/cruz @ 126, i will take back my words of him being overrated
I was talking more about when they were all at 122.. I don't think 126 would make much of a difference vs mares, but Santa cruz would be a monster for rigo at 126. It would be fascinating to see how rigo would deal with Santa cruz at 126
You can dismiss Ward but roman hasn't had a good win in years.. Estrada was his last big win over really good competition and that was 2012 around the same time Ward beatup dawson.
All I'm saying is that roman needs a big signature win like inyoau or Estrada rematch to really vault up into the elite of the elite.. right now I got roman and ggg right around 6 or 7. Both need a signature win

Kovolev, Ward, Rigo all have better wins and in a hypothetical h2h p4p, all three would be favored over roman..
Like I said before, roman can be p4p just not top 5.. If you are putting him top 5 then you are overrating him...
Rigo has a small fighting record, and despite this limited number of fights has only one very good win. He hasn't fought in almost 10 months. He can be top 10 but he's falling out, also partly due to his last fight's showing. After a year of no fighting he will be out until he gets back in the ring.
Ward has had one fight in the past two years. That one fight against less than ideal competition does not put him back in the list. There's a reason why he hasn't been on any top 5 P4P lists. Yeah, in the past Ward was #2, but right now he isn't. 2 years of not fighting does this to a fighter.
Kovalev has an aged Hopkins and Pascal (who's lost to Hopkins/Froch/Ward, and also YG who was robbed). There is no reason for Kovalev to be higher than Roman G.
Roman G has:
More fights and wins (high KO % as a bonus)
Belts in 3 different weight classes (Minimumweight, Light Flyweight, Flyweight)
He has Estrada, and below that Sosa, Rodriguez, Yaegashi, Vargas are all B-level (ish) wins.
When he beats Viloria, he will undoubtedly be top 5.
It doesn't really matter if someone tries to break down his resume, because most people don't even follow the lower divisions. It'll be useless if you don't know the division. They'll just say, I never heard of him, he's a bum!
You guys probably only follow the 140,147 and 154 and consider every other division weak for obvious reasons.
I do think Roman gets a little overrated, but there isn't many fighters besides the already established fighters (the fighters that are ready to go) that have accomplished more than him. This new era is just starting and Roman has a pretty comfortable lead imo.
agreed.

That's fine, I get that, but if dude could land a mares or Santa cruz or quigg or frampton, would see Rigo's skills on full display

Hopkins was a massively overrated win tbh. He had feasted on bums for a few years waiting for one last payday. I predicted that Kovalev would wreck him and he did. Pascal is a solid win, not great though.
Rigondeaux is my favourite fighter, but he does jave only one win. It is a great one though. I can see him being above RG, but definitely not an easy choice.
Ward hasnt beaten anyone for about 10 years now so he is not in my P4P list.
Mayweather, Klitschko, Pacquaio (borderline these days, wait and see how he looks next year) are clearly above RG IMO. Rigondeaux is just above him on mine but can see a reverse.

You can't tell me that roman has better wins that beat downs of hopkins and pascal.. 2 guys that have never been beaten down before. Or Rigo beating doñaire.. For the most part, roman's opponents all are guys with 4 or 5 nondescript losses, and hardly a notable win for any of them

off-topic, call me a hater but i stll dont find rigo donaire that amazing......

Kovalev has a 50yr old hopkins as his signature win, decent win in Pascal, win over completely untested title holder Cleverly and then a few contenders. Hardly the stuff of legend yet and definitely not much better (imo not at all) than Gonzalez.
Edit: also your assesment of Gonzalez' resume is extremely harsh

No, you name the fighters who have a better record besides Floyd/Pacquiao/Klitschko.

I caught up on him when I began hearing about him a year or two ago. I can't claim full knowledge of his career or the fighters he has beaten, but I know enough to know he's damn, damn good. Definitely one of the best fighters in the sport right now.
Gonzalez has 2 decent wins in Estrada, and niisdi,,, pretty much everyone else is either faded, or just not that good, fringe contender talent at best.. Some off them got their hands on paper titles like yeagshi, but that doesn't mean they are world class guys.. No different than guys like ghost or collazo that thurman has been fighting..
For the record, I do think roman is a better fighter than thurman or Brook, and that's why I have him on the back half of my top ten.. But I think he is overrated if you put him top 5 over the likes of kovolev.. Like I said before, the dude is like ggg.. Obvious talent and elite, but needs some better wins before leapfrogging guys like kovolev
