Zero buzz for this atrocious match up. Could have been one of PBC's lone successes of the year but they waited too long.
They waited long enough for LSC to become a complete irrelevance.
Pitiful Bum Conflict strikes again.
this fight has no hype because casual fans don't watch anyone fighting under lightweight
that's their problem, this fight Maybe FOTY or a candidate....those L.A. fighters don't play
who wouldn't get excited about two of the best between 122-126 fighting each other in their prime??? Casual fans
Fight will still do good numbers. People will always be curious, of course, even if it's (in general) five years too late. They will want to have an idea how it would go.
This should be a fun fight and is certainly worth watching.
However, the build up has been a disaster.
Haymon single-handedly destroyed the buzz santa cruz had a couple years ago by putting him in with the softest of soft opponents. I would look forward to this fight more if Santa Cruz took a tough loss somewhere along the way. Santa Cruz also looks like a b**tch when he constantly explains that he wants to fight tougher opponents but he has no choice.
Mares was a star of the Frank Ezpinoza/ Golden Boy crew and had a nice buzz as well but he chose to just be another guy in the huge haymon stable. This was a horrible move for his image and his brand. I'm sure in the short term he benefited financially from switching to Haymon but his reputation with the fans took a huge hit. Mares should've rematched Gonzalez and knocked him out and then we would look at him as a warrior that just happened to get caught with a great punch. But he faked an injury to get out of his contract with Frank Ezpinoza (who actually cared about him and cared about making him a star) and then ran to Haymon. His credibility has taken a huge hit.
This has happened to Danny Garcia, Qullin (remember him?), Santa Cruz, Mares, Stevenson in the last year or 2 from being a Haymon guy. Haymon is obviously extrememly smart, but he has no read whatsoever on boxing fans, and has destroyed the marketability of several of his top fighters.
I don't think it is needed at all to be honest, fight fans will tune into this one I'm sure. Yeah as you can see it is a few Wannabe fight fans already trying to find something to complain about it but you Pu$$ies will be tuning in on Saturday to watch.
I have to agree. This fight should of took place 2yrs ago. Mares is not the same anymore and Leo's career and abilities have stagnated, even though I think Leo wins.
It's the unfortunate result of waiting too long to make a fight that already looks ripe whatever angle you look at it.
Its a fight between two fighters with zero momentum so its not surprising that people are not as interested as they might have been.
Mares has looked so so since he was pasted in one round, and Leo Santa Cruz has done nothing of note for his last 3 fights.
I have to agree. This fight should of took place 2yrs ago. Mares is not the same anymore and Leo's career and abilities have stagnated, even though I think Leo wins. I think Mares still has not recovered mentally from being Ko'd and I am not sure he knows what kind of fighter he wants to be and needs to be anymore. If he struggled against the last few opponents then I don't see him doing better against a better fighter in Leo.
However, this fight should of already happened and it would of made a lot more money and done much more for both fighters career if it happened 2 yrs ago. Like I have said before Haymon is a money-man, he is no matchmaker, boxing expert, good promoter, nor does he know anything about producing exciting boxing tv programs. He just has zero taste and zero class. This is a big reason why this fight lacks the x factor.

Exactly, the fight is at least a year overdue. It fizzled out. Mares got sparked by a journeyman and LSC has had lackluster performance after lack luster performance against complete bums. This fight shot itself in the foot. I will watch it but the hype lost all its steam over time.
Edit: there was nothing PBC could have done to save this fight but Haymon could have saved the hype by having the fight before PBC was launched.
We all know why. Most of you nerds on boxingscene ain't nothing but fraud a.s.s fans. Y'all the same weirdos who was jumping up and down about RiosProvikinov like it was the match up of the century, but this and GarciaGuerrero not good enough lol. 2-2 punching bag Rios with 2 snoozers in a row?? What's so funny is the ones that's always hating and complaining ain't never won a fight or been in the ring a day in their life. BoxingScene got a bunch of weirdos and nerds on here. Its some on here with actual knowledge but most of you are nerds. At least at fighyhype they actually have common sense bloggers. Even the Pacquiao fans over there have more common sense and boxing knowledge than you CLOWNS. It's all about being funny and Lmaooo's over here.
It's probably because fans think Mares still got Gonzalez problems, and AM has been looking average in his last fights.
I'm betting one trillion points for LSC, any takers?
lol op is as big of a pac turd as you are.. hes like most pac turds dksab
theres no hype cause its not on hbo...
I assume you are a grown man, and you are using terms like Pac-turd, sweet Jesus. You will die alone I predict lol
Are you casting me out of the boxing watching fraternity? You better not label me a casual fan or else I may actually have to cut my dlck off and jump out the window.
Makes no sense to watch a sport you dont like.
I dont watch basketball cause i dont like it and i live in the bay area where Warrior pride is going nuts. So why pretend
Dude...........
You absolute spastik-fonted cretin! As if I would ever buy Floyd-Berto! I hate Floyd and his boring assed style, but what I hate more is PBC and their awful boring mismatches, mismatches which have turn LSC from a good prospect to a useless plodding donkey.
Tell me one exciting fight the donkey Santa Cruz has been in? Tell me one legitimate opponent he has faced? This will be a terrible fight. Yet more PBC dross! Atrocious appalling fights with a totally ordinary stable of hype jobs and bums.
My response to this is simple. This will be a great, great encounter. BOOK IT! Better yet, WATCH IT!!!!!!! Talk to me after the fight and we can converse on how exciting it was. I don't have a prediction really but I'm leaning toward Mares. Cruz has a great workrate BUT he hasn't fought anyone close to AM's level. He also lacks experience.
The best fights usually do have the least hype.
Morales-MAB 1, Corrales-Castillo 1 both happened in the Mandalay Bay with half of the arena empty.
Its going to be a lot of action for as long as it lasts.
